Welcome to the third Bugle edition for 2018!

February was another good month for new featured and A-class articles. The article news section provides a round-up of the 10 new FAs and 14 new A-class articles.

TomStar81 continues his coverage of the centenary of World War I. His regular summary of this month 100 years ago covers a month in which some of the war's key events took place, not least the start of the massive German offensive in France. While this operation had a dramatic impact, it was dwarfed by that of the topic of Tom's op-ed: the start of the Spanish Flu pandemic, which killed tens of millions of people worldwide.

Staying on the grim topic of mass devastation, the regular book review section features Hawkeye7's assessment of a recent work on the expected effects of a nuclear exchange during the Cold War. The section also includes many recent reviews of military history books published elsewhere.

In February, a new task force was created, covering the post-Cold War era. The new task force can be found here: Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Post-Cold War task force. Help is needed to tag articles within the task force's scope, and populate the open tasks list and resources list. Other project space changes that were implemented in February include an update of the A-class review instructions, to further refine guidance to nominators and reviewers, while the audit of the MILHIST Academy, which began in October 2017, has continued.

In memoriam

André Kritzinger

Many members of this project will be saddened to learn of the recent death of André Kritzinger. While never a member of the project, Andre made a major contribution to our coverage of South African military topics. His focus in this area was on South African military decorations and medals, and he also donated large numbers of his photos of the 1980s and 1990s-era South African armed forces to Commons. In addition, Andre was a prolific contributor to articles on South African railway topics.

April 2018 backlog elimination and content creation drive

Sign up for the 2018 Milhist Backlog Drive!

Next month the project will be running a backlog elimination and content creation drive. As previously advertised, this drive will target several areas including tagging and assessment, improving our task forces, and content creation. This year's drive will include a collaboration with Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red to try to improve our coverage of topics related to women in the military. Editors are also encouraged to work on articles concerning all other topics. The drive will begin on 1 April and continue through to the end of the month. Interested editors are encouraged to sign up now at the link above.
