Welcome to the May 2013 edition of the Bugle!

The June 2013 backlog reduction drive gets under way next month. The drive starts at 00:00 UTC on 31 May and runs through 23:59 UTC on 30 June. Its focus will be on both article improvement and on assessment, rather than just one or the other. Anyone interested in participating is invited to sign up or post questions at the above link. Incidentally, a number of people were involved in setting up the drive but in the end the hard yards were by Anotherclown, and we thank him very much.

The Milhist FA, A-Class and Peer Reviews for January–March 2013 were tallied last month, and awards handed out. Dank easily topped the list with an astonishing 53 reviews -- you can find everyone's name who contributed reviews at the link above, and we thank all of them for their efforts. Thanks also to AustralianRupert and Nikkimaria for tallying, and Rupert and Anotherclown for distributing awards.

Among our regular departments in the Bugle, Dumelow and Nick-D have contributed our book reviews, and Nick has also posted this month's op-ed, on the opportunities (and occasional perils!) of military history tourism.

Looking over our Featured and A-Class content promoted last month, it's notable that all but one of the successful A-Class nominators were editors with many previous A-Class articles to their credit. While their achievement is to be applauded, this does raise some concerns over the longer-term sustainability of the A-Class process. The A-Class process is pretty friendly and a good way to receive formal acknowledgement for your work, and editors who have experience in developing articles to B or GA standard are encouraged to give it a go. If you have any questions about the process or would like pre-nomination feedback on an article, you can post at the project's main talk page or approach one of the project's coordinators.

On a very positive note, a recent newcomer to the A-Class process, Zawed, qualified for his first A-Class medal last month -- congratulations!

Your editors, Ian Rose (talk) and Nick-D (talk).
