The railroad of the Gales Creek & Wilson River Railroad Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track, standard-gage, steam railroad, located in northwestern Oregon. The main line extends westerly from Wilkesboro to Glenwood, a distance of 12.728 miles. The carrier also owns 2.237 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 14.965 miles of all tracks owned and used. The carrier is indirectly controlled by the Northern Pacific Railway Company and the Great Northern Railway Company, through the respective subsidiaries of those companies, the Northwestern Improvement Company and the Washington and Great Northern Townsite Company.

CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated April 2, 1917, under the general laws of Oregon to construct, maintain, and operate a railroad and telegraph and telephone lines, having an eastern terminus at Wilkesboro, Washington County, the ultimate or permanent western terminus to be at or near the city of Tillamook, Tillamook County, all in Oregon. The date of its organization was April 6, 1917.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The road, all owned, amounting to 12.728 miles, extending from Wilkesboro to Glenwood, Oreg., was acquired by construction during the period from May 1917 to December 1919. The road was constructed by or for the company through arrangements of the promoters, J. L. Washburn and John G. Williams, of Duluth, Minn.
