Old discussion[edit]

A Wiki Meetup in Miami is expected in January. It's going to be meeting at a local restaurant, I prefer News Cafe, or a more casual location like Wet Willies both on Ocean Drive (South Beach). There's also the Cafe at Books and Books in South Beach. Or any place that is recommended. This Wikimeetup is going to be on January 15, 2011 to celebrate the 10th anniversity of Wikipedia.

Update: I'm calling places now to see if they could hold people, I estimate 20-25 people showing up. I'm getting free tshirts, stickers, etc. from the wikimedia committee. Maybe I could get a featured speaker as well, like an member of ArbCom. I would see if I could get newspaper publicity for this event as well, in the New Times, or Miami Herald. Update: It seems like organizer User:Secret is going with Books and Books.--Pharos (talk) 22:38, 27 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Somebody should post the details: the address, map coordinates, what time the event is expected to start and end, etc. *Dan T.* (talk) 19:41, 1 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • For anybody trying to be really precise in pinpointing the anniversary time, the recently discovered backup log of early Wikipedia edits shows the first known edit (to the HomePage, now Main Page) to be Mon, 15 Jan 2001 19:27:13 GMT, which is Monday, January 15, 2001 2:27:13 PM in US Eastern time. That's when people ought to be celebrating worldwide. (This is based on the Unix timestamp of 979586833, via Epoch Converter.) *Dan T.* (talk) 04:49, 15 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

New discussion[edit]

Location, which location you guys prefer. It must be convinient, and reasonable. Books and Books cafe in Lincoln Road looks like a good location. Thanks Secret account 19:59, 14 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You good folks probably want to nail down the location pretty soon.--Pharos (talk) 17:11, 23 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It looks like Books and Books is getting some good support. Maybe you should just go ahead with that one. (And my apologies for butting in as an out-of-towner here!)--Pharos (talk) 22:49, 25 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'll go with Books and Books Secret account 14:31, 27 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm been trying to reach books and books cafe right now to see how many people they could hold for the event. They told me they could combine tables, no reservations. What time you think its appropriate? 12? Secret account 22:45, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

12 Noon sounds good. GroveGuy (talk) 10:33, 4 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I've put Books and Books in a basic intro, and put 12 noon down as the tentative meeting time. Feel free to modify this, as you folks are the actually Miamiites :)--Pharos (talk) 16:44, 4 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Have commented on the article page that noon seems early for those of us to the north of Miami. I would think mid-afternoon might be a bit better. Thanks, Jusdafax 16:57, 7 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I did mid-afternoon but I only have about an hour before I have to go to work. Secret account 15:07, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

So I take it that no one will be there at around 12~1? Halofanatic333 (talk) 11:58, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Secret seems to have time constraints. I will be there from Noon on. GroveGuy (talk) 22:17, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
