www.voobly.com keeps spamming with different new accounts it makes

www.voobly.com keeps spamming itself at the Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings page, and elsewhere. New accounts keep adding it in, every time I or someone else eliminates it. Tedhoffman, Tnt pde, 71.30.3.38 are spam accounts, doing nothing more than adding it the ad for that site. Dream Focus 01:15, 27 September 2009 (UTC)

They previously were known as www.igzones.com and spammed all over the place. Searching for that, I see articles with that link in them, that shouldn't be. In the article Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds I just erased their spam, they having a reference to a Microsoft announcement that suggested using two other systems for online games, neither of which was them though. Thanks. They even created a few other sites claiming to host maps, which had almost nothing at all on them, other than links to their commercial site. Microsoft used to call its site Internet Gaming Zone, so igzone might confuse some people, I thinking that done deliberately to confuse. The same company registered the domain name http://www.microsoftants.com/ to confuse people, that site having nothing to do with Microsoft, it just linking to their other site once again. I'll try to alert Microsoft of this so they can shut that one down. Dream Focus 10:28, 28 September 2009 (UTC)

User spamming Smallville pages

User has been adding external links to many smallville articles by his own admission, many to the site http://ejumpcut.org . The user has then edit warred with an IP to keep those pages in, and reported that IP for vandalism for removing those links. Bignole has now asked for some of those pages to be protected. First, I have not been "spamming". Those links have been there for more than a year. Second, the link itself is not spam. It's a peer journal that I attained from my university search engine. The journal itself is an analysis of the show homosexual subtexts present in the show Smallville through five seasons. The journal was written by an assistant professor who specializes in sexuality on television (that's what his degree is in, and he's written other journals and books on the subject). The link is a legitimate one to include on those specific pages, because it directly pertains to those specific pages. I'm not including some link to the basic website in the hopes of promoting anything (which would be spam). I included a link to an online media journal (which appears in Google Scholar and only university peer review journal searches) that has relevance.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 23:35, 7 October 2009 (UTC)

Football fansites

Too many individual links to list, but a domain whois shows that they are all owned by the same person. The editors can probably be blocked for sockpuppetry/spamming. Perhaps it would be a good idea to add the links to XLinkBot's revert list, as they are fansites and not likely to be used to good effect. ThemFromSpace 18:51, 13 October 2009 (UTC)

Possible spam sites?

I came across a user (SimonThird) whose only contributions consisted of adding text referenced to two specific sites, "banking-business-review.com" and "cbronline.com". A check into these sites shows that they are almost identical in design, they are published by the same company, and they share the same IP address. one site (cbronline) is used in hundreds of articles, but I wonder if the sites are really suitable to be considered "reliable sources" or if they are in fact more domain-spammer sites. Based on the different referral codes being used, the IPs are all different people. Apparently, after Vkontakte's recent acquisition of vk.com, the social network has a promotion encouraging users to refer new members for the opportunity to get an iPod. Before 10 May, the links at Foreign Service Institute were all to a single non-commercial site. These were then replaced with mainly commercial links. The number of links was excessive to begin with, but since the FSI courses are apparently in the public domain as US government products, I don't see any reason to object to a single link to a non-commercial online version. I have contested this "spam" submission on the basis of the neutral, accurate, and reliable clause, the site being supported by affiliates of the University of Wisconsin, as well as its relevance to the pages it has been added to. User DVdm's classification of "some poor quality physics equation list" is evidence of his apparent bias, which is against the mission of Wikipedia. I understand the concept of trying to promote a website, but how is that different from any other external link on Wikipedia? Every external link is promoting a website, so if we wanted to be consistent, there should be no external links on Wikipedia, but that would be a disservice to the users. I think if there is a wiki page called "list of elementary physics formulas" and then there is a website that provides a list of elementary physics formulas with added features such as a method to search those formulas, how is this not relevant and constructive? I would agree with the above assessment if the website charged for its services or contained excessive advertisement, but it clearly does not. --Calccrazy1dx 22 October 2009

I came across User:Confusioner today due to an edit he made to EchoStar, which was on my watchlist. He was inserting links for the domain above, for each of the satellites launched or currently in use by EchoStar or Dish Network. I have no information regarding the reliability of the site in question, and I have not (yet) reverted the dozen or so articles he added the link to a few weeks ago. The chief issue that normally arises is that editors point to other "competing" external links (in this case, like lyngsat.com), and (reasonably?) argue something along the lines of other stuff exists. Should I go ahead and remove all of the sathint.com links? Which begs the question of what to do about lyngsat.com (which is a website I have actually used on my own countless times, full disclosure). user:J aka justen (talk) 22:42, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

Yes, I recommend reverting all those link additions as blatant promotional spam. It's pretty clear in Intelsat that a link to TV/radio channels is totally non-encyclopedic (I reverted that). The 280 links to LyngSat also look dubious (particularly as links dumped in the article body, with no encyclopedic value that I noticed), but we deal with one problem at a time.
