List entries?

[edit]

Thank you for creating this page. Very interesting. Do we want to list entries being associated with states? Listing the general US (non-state specific) entries may also encourage editors to assign articles to the specific state, if applicable. Listing articles by a state will make reconciling easier, but also means more work and perhaps redundancy to the project's main list. ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:13, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

That sounds like a good idea.— JJBers|talk 19:36, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
So, I copied over confirmed entries for Arizona and New Mexico. Is this helpful? The entries could be sorted alphabetically, if we want, but I just copied over in the order they appear on the project's main page. If we decide this level of record keeping is not necessary, or not sustainable for 50,000 articles, feel free to revert my edit. ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:53, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
That seems fine, just seprate the percentage from the list, and remove the chckmarks, and that is what I thought of what you said.— JJBers|talk 21:57, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
You seem to be the editor doing the most tracking and calculating (#entries, percentages, etc.) Does maintaining this list create more work for you, or is this actually helpful for reconciling purposes? I'm trying to keep up with reconciling the list on the main page, but will try to check in here from time to time, too. I just don't want to create more work! ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:03, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Nah, I'm fine, I'm doing it really becuase I was bored, and couldn't think of any article to type up, so I did this just to help make the list easier to digest, as I know no one is going to split it to states, and put perctages in it.
I'm thinking about removing current list percentages, as it's going to be hard to keep up with, any thought on that.— JJBers|talk 22:13, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
No, feel free to remove percentages. We can always calculate at the end of the campaign, or at certain increments like every 5,000 articles, or something. ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:20, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

So, I think for now it may be more helpful to leave the entries ordered in the same way they appear on the main page's list. That way, we can easily tell the last entry that was copied over. Then, we can worry about putting entries in alphabetical order when the campaign concludes, if we want. ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:28, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, that seems fine.— JJBers|talk 22:32, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I think the lists are up to date, as of #252 total articles. Feel free to recalculate the totals/percentages. I don't know if you have a way of timestamping your work to make updating easier going forward? ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:21, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I'm not sure about what you meant at the end, if you mean timestampping the times I update, that is in the edit histroy, but thank you for updating the list.— JJBers|talk 23:38, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I just meant if there was a way to know where you left off, but I think the comment at the top of the page ("217 articles as of November 6, 2016...") helps as long as it's updated. ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:52, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that should be fine.— JJBers|talk 00:00, 7 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Another Believer: I'm going to re-add the percentages, I'll edit by section going in downwards order.— JJBers|talk 00:02, 7 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads up. I won't be editing the page for a few minutes. By the way, when you are actively editing the page, feel free to use Template:In use to prevent edit conflicts. ---Another Believer (Talk) 00:03, 7 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Also, don't forget to double check the region totals. For example, East Coast is actually 21, not 19. ---Another Believer (Talk) 00:12, 7 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Currently, this page is updated through #320 of the master list. I am noting master list numbers in edit summaries to make reconciling a bit easier to track. ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:28, 10 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to update the article and percentages count, presuming that I won't be active some time in the future, the formula is 1 article = 0.002% of the challenge.— JJBers|talk 00:06, 11 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I've been trying to update counts now and then (I'm mostly focused on the lists), but I haven't been touching the percentages. ---Another Believer (Talk) 00:07, 11 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Reconciling

[edit]

Hmm, I keep calculating a total of 587 entries. Not sure where the +10 is coming from (should be 577). ---Another Believer (Talk) 00:12, 18 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Discrepancy in Oklahoma articles

[edit]

Several Oklahoma articles that were added to and have been checked off on the 1 - 499 group of the 50,000 list have not been included on the state-by-state list. These are:

  1. Lesser Prairie Chicken
  2. Helen Walton
  3. Eufaula Dam
  4. Rose, Oklahoma
  5. Frederick, Oklahoma
  6. Corliss steam engine
  7. Doug Combs

If this was simply an oversight, I'll be happy to add them to the state-by-state list. But, in case there was some other reason, I don't want to mess up your system by simply going ahead. Please advise. BTW, you are doing a great job just keeping track of all these entries. It's so much easier for the editors to see where things stand since you added the state-by-state list. Thanks. Bruin2 (talk) 17:00, 8 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I was doing most of the reconciling, but my last update to the state-by-state list was on November 20. I was traveling overseas, and I was confused/frustrated by the sub-campaign created and merging, removal of entries after editors disagreed about which articles qualified, etc. In other words, I stopped updating the page, but do think a complete state-by-state page would be very helpful. I certainly encouraged editors to add entries to this page if they remember to do so. ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:13, 8 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Misplaced Article

[edit]

The article named Rowing at the 1984 Summer Olympics should not be listed under Oklahoma, since it seems to have nothing to do with that list. Can someone find another home for this entry? Thanks. Bruin2 (talk) 22:46, 20 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
