The Textile Engineering College, Noakhali (Bengali: টেক্সটাইল ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং কলেজ, নোয়াখালী) is a textile engineering institute offers B.Sc. in Textile Engineering degree. It situated in Noakhali, Bangladesh. It is affiliated with Bangladesh University of Textiles. Short name TECN.

TECN is one of the eight textile engineering colleges[1] in Bangladesh which are collectively funded and controlled by the Directorate of Textiles, Ministry of Textiles and Jute. Textile Engineering College, Noakhali is an engineering educational institute in Bangladesh offering Graduation in different core of Textile Engineering with affiliation of Bangladesh University of Textiles and govern of Ministry of Textiles & Jute, Bangladesh.[2][3][4][5]

History

British Weaving School

During the British colonial rule from 1911 to 1929, 33 peripatetic weaving schools were established in East Bengal to meet the requirements for a textile technician by offering an artisan-level six-month course. Begumgonj Textile Engineering College, Noakhali is one of them; it was established in 1918. In 1968 it was upgraded to District Weaving School offering a one-year course and in 1981 District Textile Institute offering a two-year certificate course in textile technology. But the certificate course was not acceptable to the industry.

In 1993 a three-year diploma course was introduced under Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB) which was treated as a milestone for the textile education. The duration of this course was extended to four years in 2001.

The college was upgraded in 2007 to offer a BSc in textile engineering. The course is affiliated by the Bangladesh University of Textiles. The new face of this campus was designed by Architect Sirajee Tariqul Islam from Department of architecture & construction was done by PWD on behalf of MoHPW and funded by GOB.

Textile Engineering College, Begumganj, Noakhali, is a government educational institution controlled by the Directorate of Textiles under the Ministry of Textiles and Jute, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. This institution debuted as a handloom school in 1918 AD on 2.97 acres of land. Initially, a six-month trade course was introduced. In 1960 AD, it was introduced as a one-year “Textile Artisan” course. In 1980 AD, a 02 (two) year textile certificate course named “Zella Textile Institute” was introduced to improve the institute’s quality further. In the year 1994, the standard of the institution was raised a step further by providing the required number of teachers, officers and staff for infrastructural development, practical equipment and book collection in the library through a development project titled ITET and 03. (three) year “Diploma in Textile Engineering” course was introduced.In 2002 AD as per government decision the ongoing course was upgraded to 04 years duration course. Then, through a government notification, “Textile Institute, Begumganj, Noakhali” was expanded to “Textile Engineering College, Begumganj, Noakhali” in 2006 to meet the shortage of textile degree holders in the country and produce skilled textile engineers. Textile industry.In the beginning, the college’s educational program was conducted under “Chittagong University” but later from 2012, after receiving affiliation from “Bangladesh Textile University” Dhaka, the educational program of B.Sc. in Textile Engineering course is being conducted till now.

Textile Engineering College, Begumganj, Noakhali is playing an essential role by creating skilled manpower of executive level for the country and abroad according to the vision of the implementation of the Vision 2041 of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.In the last 11 (eleven) years from this college B.Sc. 699 students have passed out in 10 batches in Textile Engineering and hold various important positions in the country and abroad. Currently, 4 sessions/batches of 476 students are running. 65% scholarship to the admitted students and 02 (two) months training allowance to the final stage students are provided to the college students to focus on their studies.A two-storied academic administration building, a two-storied art shop cum library, a two-storied dyeing printing lab cum conference room, 1 jute spinning shed, a 4 storied practical building (with 8 labs), a 6 storied multipurpose building on 297 acres of land. College campus. , a two-storied headmaster’s quarter, a 64-seat two-storied dormitory, a 4-storied dormitory, 1 pump house, 1 substation, 1 mosque, 1 Shaheed Minar and 1 playground exist. Besides, there is a student hostel with 4 floors with 144 seats, 1 pump house, 1 pond and 1 playground on 2.50 acres of land near the college campus. Also, there is 1 bus for students to visit the mill and 1 jeep for the office head.

TECN offers a four-year bachelor's degree program in textile engineering. It is one of the eight textile engineering colleges run by Bangladesh University of Textiles.

Admission

Admission into this college is competitive and needs a high academic attainment at the SSC and HSC examination. Selection of the student for admission is made through an admission test. Only science students can apply for the admission test. Admission circular is published in the national dailies, college website and website of the Department of Textiles (DOT).

Department of Textiles (DOT) offers 4 years of BSc in Textile Engineering Degree. A single examination was organized by Department of Textiles (DOT) for 8 textile engineering colleges under the affiliation of Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX). Colleges which conduct exams together are: Textile Engineering College, Chittagong (2006), Pabna Textile Engineering College (2006), Textile Engineering College Noakhali (2007), Shahid Abdur Rab Serniabat Textile Engineering College (2010), Sheikh Kamal Textile Engineering College, Jhenaidah (2016), Dr. M A Wazed Miah Textile Engineering College (2018), Sheikh Rehana Textile Engineering College (2021) & Sheikh Hasina Textile Engineering College (2022)

The admission test is conducted on the basis of multiple choice questions (MCQ). Students have to answer physics, chemistry, higher math and English in the admission test.

Students can get admission in certain college based on merit list and college preference list.

TECN Alumni Association (TECNAA)

The TECN Alumni Association (TECNAA) is the official alumni organization for graduates of Textile Engineering College, Noakhali. Established in 2017, TECNAA was formed with a mandate from the college's alumni to enhance networking, foster communication, and strengthen the bonds among members of the institution. With 98.8% of eligible alumni participating, TECNAA gained official acceptance from the college following a referendum on March 26, 2017, in which the association's constitution and bylaws were unanimously approved.

TECNAA focuses on advancing the mission of Textile Engineering College, Noakhali, by organizing events, supporting initiatives, and serving as a bridge between current students, alumni, and the institution. Through these efforts, TECNAA has become a key driver in strengthening the professional and personal connections within the college community.
