Confused naming

[edit]

In parts of this article the ELF is described as a "collective name for anonymous and autonomous individuals or groups", and in other parts, the ELF is described as an "organisation", saying the attack was "attributed" to the ELF. This is inconsistent and confused - either the ELF is just a name that autonomous collectives use to name their actions (like flash mobs, for example), or it is an organisation.Sumthingweird (talk) 12:34, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A collective name is probably be the best way to describe it. The way it works is that an individual or a small group do an action, which they decide to call an ELF action. They then anonymously send a press-release to press officers or sympathisers, who give it wider publicity.--Salix alba (talk) 15:05, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Undiscussed page move

[edit]

In an undiscussed move on 14 September 2024, this article's name was changed from Street of Dreams arson fires, a title it had been at since 2008, to 2008 Street of Dreams Arson Attacks, with the claim that this is "Improved wording". The latter title does not follow the Manual of Style advice for article titles nor the naming conventions for only capitalizing proper names in article titles. Apart from the first word in a title, which is automatically capitalized, the words in titles that are not part of a proper name should be in lower case. Additionally, the crime of arson is the deliberate act of setting fire to buildings or property, so word "fire" in the original title would seem to be superfluous. However, calling these fires an "attack" is also debatable, because that implies Wikipedia has a point of view about who caused these fires, and why. It overlooks the fact that no arrests were ever made and a developer of one of the houses plead guilty to theft in relation to construction projects. Without having a conviction for arson, there is no proof beyond reasonable doubt that these suspicious fires were an eco-attack, or just a cover-up for other crimes. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 03:48, 15 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

2008 Street of Dreams Arson Attacks2008 Seattle Street of Dreams arson – Rename article to include "When", "Where" and "What" in the title, to follow guideline about naming conventions for events. This single act of arson occurred in 2008 and targeted four houses built for the Seattle Street of Dreams project. As nobody was ever arrested for this arson, the motive for setting these buildings on fire is not clear, so a non-judgemental descriptive title is necessary.
