Non-encyclopedic wording

[edit]

It's not for wikipedia to decide what is and isn't "prestigious" 86.16.117.32 03:53, 13 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You are right. That's why Wikipedia shouldn't say it, one way or the other. But if there is a respected third party that says it (one way or the other) then that critic could be quoted. Kablammo 03:57, 13 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Can someone help to change/reword:
The main focus of the school is to prepare students who are ready to get serious about music for life working in the music industry, teaching the ropes of the industry and have them network with one another to establish contacts within the industry, thus offering future contacts. It also provides direct contact with many of the largest record labels, as well as providing professional auditions when requested by external parties.
I've bolded the words that mostly need attention. Thx. Dr. Who 04:22, 13 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think that whole paragraph needs to be thrown away. How about this:
The school differs from more traditional music academies by it's focus on Rock and Pop music, and it's vocational approach. To facilitate careers for its students, it has established relationships with record labels and management companies, which offer opportunities for auditions and management/production jobs.
I think that covers it. I'm putting it in, objectors can revert if they want.86.16.117.32 10:24, 13 February 2007 (UTC
An excellent work, dear fiend, many thanks. I hope you'll consider to register and gain a full usrname. Thx again. :)--Dr. Who 15:03, 13 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That part leaves a total absence of any verifiability and is so vacuous as to be the worst form of WP:WEASEL! In any event I have kept the undeniable vocational emphasis just as strong in the 'lead section' (intro) but taken time to clip it down to verifiable facts. I certainly agree that something needs to be said of its links with the profession and allude to its alumni, it is its modern links which can be quite sharply juxtaposed against the universities and colleges but also with their vital course links explained in more detail, the relationship is symbiotic.- Adam37 Talk 22:11, 23 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Peter Anderton?

[edit]

On another note, I seem to recall Peter Anderton of Anderton's Music Co played a significant role in setting this up. Should he get a mention? 86.16.117.32 03:58, 13 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Assessment

[edit]

I have asssed this article for the Wiki Schools Project. The result of this was as follows: A growing article which gives a variety of encyclopedic information. To improve all references need to be cited, an infobox needs to be created, and problems with encyclopedic wording needs to be resolved. Camaron1 | Chris 13:09, 6 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Notable students

[edit]

Someone keeps adding Joe Wakeford to the list of former students (possibly Mr. Wakeford himself). However, since the ACM Web site doesn't even list him it's probably fair to say he's no more notable than any of the other hundreds of ACM graduates. The WP page for Wakeford did not survive an AfD. Other branches

[edit]

Maybe there should be mention of the other branches of the ACM around the world, such as the new one in OK. http://broncho2.ucok.edu/press/prdetail.asp?NewsID=5774&Weight=5

Re-assessment

[edit]

I am retaining the current article quality rating of Start, much more references will be needed for the article to get a higher quality rating, with much of this unreferenced. The notable alumni and teachers are enough to get the article Mid importance though. Camaron · Christopher · talk 18:39, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Absolutely. I would certainly like to have more detail or links to it rather for all of the main alumni involved. Also the % split between the courses would be very key, albeit varying by type of course. Which courses are awarded or mainly studied in-house and which as squarely the outsourced vocational provider is opaque and needs both clarifying and citing, preferably from neutral sources. With those for example and some emphasis on "unusually popular courses" (i.e. what is it really known for, academically and by magazines etc) or retained top tutors (who is it really now known for working there or with it), the article could make a B grade from those more salient facts (plus citations). For an A grade which is rare for smaller educational institutions, a vast deal of ferreting for sources would be needed.- Adam37 Talk 22:18, 23 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
