A clear Frankish victory[edit]

Runciman's outdated and vague pronouncement that this battle was inconclusive no longer stands. Bernard Hamilton's far more detailed study of the battle has concluded that it was a victory for the Franks and a Muslim defeat. Edits have been made along with appropriate citation.

Untitled[edit]

Please note that this article could just as easily been called Crusader Campaign of 1182 or something similar. Historians disagree on whether there was a battle at all. I just needed some name to pin this on. The running battle (skirmish) was fought near Belvoir Castle (Kaukab al-Hawa) in the summer of 1182, hence the title. Christian Commanders[edit]

William of Tyre (XXII.16) makes it clear that the commanders at the battle were Baldwin of Ramlah, Balian of Ibelin, and Hugh of Saint Omer.
