Canstatter Wasen

[edit]

I don't know why this is listed as a beer festival. I've been there at least three times and it's quite different from the Oktoberfest in Munich. Unlike the Oktoberfest, this festival clearly focuses on attractions (small roller-coasters, take a ride in a huge cup, ...). There are nine big marquees, but you can get only wine in three of them, this is already quite atypical of a "beer" festival.The third difference is, that you can buy animals (cows, horses, ...) at the fair.I think one of the reasons for the misunderstandings is the official website of the festival, in the German version they call it Canstatter Wasen, but I think they assume that foreign tourists do not know this festival - and that's why they call it "Stuttgart Beer Festival" in the English version - although it's not really a beer festival.Johnny2323 (talk) 16:04, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think that the same applies to oktoberfest, too. You can and should enjoy yourself there without any beer. Its a festival to celebrate and have fun, but not for "tasting and purchasing beer". This page is a joke. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.187.181.11 (talk) 11:43, 3 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Notability criteria?

[edit]

I see some small festivals are included in the list - ones with no supporting article or even no reference. I would suggest that the main criteria for the inclusion of a festival on the page be that it has its own Wikipedia article. Perhaps a secondary criteria could be cited evidence that it has annual attendance of (my suggestion) 20,000 per year over the past three years. What do others think? I'd love to clean up this page. --Biker Biker (talk) 19:44, 14 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Birmingham Beer festival

[edit]

I saw Birmingham Beer festival claiming it was the biggest beer festival with 220 beers and 60 cider/perry. a) any substance to this claim and b) should it be in the notable beer festivals as a result? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.33.40.66 (talk) 11:05, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

beer festivals in Germany?

[edit]

Germany has an old tradition of festivals. They have different origins, fe. "Kirchweih" (which was originally a religious festival), "Volksfest" (which was founded for other reasons) and "Markt" (which was a market or trade fair). They are funfairs connected with eating and drinking. Of course a lot of beer is drunken :-), but they are not only "beer events". In some regions, esp. Palatinate, Rhinehesse and lower Franconia, they are often "wine festivals" and not "beer festivals". And there are only few and more small ones in Germany which are only "beer drinking events" without funfair. But there are a lot of wine festivals without funfair. Large festivals like Bad Dürkheimer Wurstmarkt (a wine festival but connected with funfair), Deutsches Weinlesefest in Neustadt/Weinstr, Backfischfest in Worms and Rheingau Weinwoche in Wiesbaden etc. are for wine drinking and not beer. In my eyes it is not correct to say that f.e. Munich Oktoberfest (largest german festival), Cannstatter Wasen, Hamburger Dom, Fürther Michaelis Kirchweih (largest german Kirchweih) are (only) beer festivals. So I doubt that it makes sense to classify german festivals as "beer festival".ManfredV (talk) 19:23, 11 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Pints

[edit]

Are instances of "pints" related to the United Kingdom in this article units of measurement (imperial pints) or just a type of beer glass?--Carnby (talk) 22:29, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Carnby, is there a difference? -- DeFacto (talk). 11:55, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@DeFacto Well, yes, in the first case it would be sensible to have a conversion in litres and US pints, in the second case probably no.-- Carnby (talk) 12:23, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Carnby, a British pint glass holds one pint. Is that a surprise? -- DeFacto (talk). 12:35, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
