To Service or not to Service
[edit]Apparently the building is known both as the "Indian River Life Saving Service Station" and the ""Indian River Life-Saving Station". The former name is used by the National Register, the latter by the State Park and the majority of book sources (which aren't all that numerous either way). Even the NPS uses the short name on occasion (or at least a variant). In summary, the common name to me seems to be "Life-Saving Station", with the hyphen and without the "Service", and if no one objects I'll move the page to that title in a few days. KylieTastic, thoughts? Huon (talk) 20:09, 12 January 2018 (UTC)
- Hi Huon, either seams fine with me - I reverted as I could not find any justification for the change to "Indian River Life-Saving Station Museum" but it was the Museum that appears to be erouneous and more function than a valid name for a historic place. The sign (in Oct 2015) here appears to say "Indian River Lifesaving Station" with a tag line of "Museum & Historic Site". So I'm happy for the "Service" to be removed from the title, but would add that it was added to the National Register as "Indian River Life Saving Service Station". Cheers KylieTastic (talk) 20:20, 12 January 2018 (UTC)
- comment In the category Category:Life-Saving Service stations on the National Register of Historic Places, this is the only article with 'Service station' in its name; the rest just use 'station'. Hmains (talk) 16:53, 13 January 2018 (UTC)
- Support move. The NRHP listing name is an "official" name of the place but it is not required to be used as the title. For various types of sites such as lighthouses there are sometimes other competing "official" names. Here there is another common name in use, one which sounds better to the ear, and does not conjure up misleading "service station". Note the NRHP infobox should continue to show the NRHP name, so that readers are informed that this article is indeed the one covering the place in NRHP lists, and further I think it is good for the NRHP name to be mentioned in bold in the lede as an alternate name, or perhaps mentioned as: "was listed in the National Register as Indian River Life Saving Service Station." --Doncram (talk) 20:33, 14 January 2018 (UTC)
- Support using the shorter common name, per Doncram. Dicklyon (talk) 01:28, 17 January 2018 (UTC)
- OK, moved. Thanks for the input everybody! Huon (talk) 20:46, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
