May 2007

[edit]

In the info box it seems to imply that the keyboard has aftertouch and is velocity sensitive. I owned an MS-20 for about a year and I'm sure the very basic keyboard has neither of these features. I don't see how to edit this part of the info box though. Anyone? Thewonky

MS-10 and MS-20 under same page

[edit]

they are two different synths, why are they combined into one page? Is it just because it is thought that difference being only the number of osciallators (which might just be the only difference, but that should be researched to be sure)?

I owned both of these synths and the primary difference was the number of oscillators. This doesn't mean that the MS-10 shouldn't have its own page though. Until one exists, they are definitely similar enough that it makes sense to have them on the same page.Thewonky 15:08, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Aftertouch and velocity sensitivity

[edit]

I own an MS-20, and can confirm that it is definitely not velocity sensitive, nor does it have aftertouch. I've changed the infobox to reflect this. Cheers 80.192.63.211 15:51, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

PWM?

[edit]

Maybe I am missing something, but why does a lack of voltage control for the pulse generator prevent you from doing pulse width modulation? It also says that the VCOs have voltage control, so I'm assuming by "there is no voltage control for this parameter..." the editor meant that you cannot control the voltage of the pulses independently? Jludwig (talk) 04:32, 17 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How would you do pulse widh modulation on a VCO whose pulse width is not voltage controlled ? Granted, you could twiddle the PULSE WIDTH knob but that's not modulation in the usual sense.

In "there is no voltage control for this parameter", "this parameter" refers to the pulse width. Yes, each VCO has a control voltage input but it's for the frequency. 213.41.173.68 (talk) 13:04, 24 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Kraddy

[edit]

As a note of minor interest, Matthew Kratz (aka Kraddy, formerly of The Glitch Mob) has a track likely dedicated to the Korg MS-20, "MS-20 Forever," on his first solo album, Truth Has No Path. Atypicaloracle (talk) 16:42, 20 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Notes from first look

[edit]

My initial impression is that there’s too much detail in the Architecture section for an encyclopedic article; I don’t think every parameter needs to be listed and fully described. And maybe the technical electronics details should be separated to a different section than the description of the features that can be seen on the front panel. I like reading about the IC history but I plan to investigate how to verify those facts.

I added a citation needed mark to the fact that says the ring mod is an XOR. It’s an interesting fact and I’d like to keep it in if it’s true. There’s other facts in that section that can’t be easily verified by interacting with the instrument which I also added citation needed marks to.

Notable Users might be more effective for encyclopedia use if in the form of Notable Performances with the recording included. Even if kept in this listed form I think it should be reduced in some way, both in space on the page and in length.

If there's no disagreement I'll start making changes related to these comments eventually.

As with all Wikipedia's vintage synth articles the notable users section is (a) copied from the Vintage Synth Explorer / Sonic State (b) was user-generated some time in 1997 (c) and so it's full of acts that are meaningless nowadays (d) it doesn't explain how they used it in a notable way. The exact same list is posted on lots of similar articles. It's just a waste of space. How did Dubstar use it? In what way was it a notable aspect of their sound? For the benefit of anybody under the age of fifty years old, who were Dubstar? -Ashley Pomeroy (talk) 15:43, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

MS20 MIDI Controller missing

[edit]

Korg released a hardware controller mini “replica” of the MS20 (source) with the legacy collection. This isn’t really mentioned here or in the wiki listing korg’s synths by year. A mini midi synth with a working “patch” bay is a cool product worth mentioning:) 23.93.65.27 (talk) 01:51, 3 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
