Removed the connotation for "Mythical National Championship" as regards to to the 2003 Football Championship. A standard convention for all Division I schools needs to be adopted. Until such time, the BCS and the AP should be recognized as legitimate national championships. Otherwise, a project needs to be started to edit all D-I schools (USC Trojans Football, for instance) to reflect the "mythical" nature of every football championship. Reverted the page because I made an incorrect edit. [User: Scottmkeen, 22:28, 1 November 2007)

MNC Response: While NCAA Inc. may not officially recognize a football national champion, all of the members of the NCAA (universities, athletic departments, coaches) do recognize football champions. The NCAA also cannot restrict other entities from declaring and recognizing National Champions. Currently, the BCS is the process CREATED BY THE NCAA schools to determine the national champion.

In prescribing the ;mythical national champion" you demean the players, the teams, the schools, and the fans. You will also need to go to every championship school for every year and give the same designation. No one wants that. If you must "accurately reflect the state of the sport", you should accurately attribute the national championship designation through recognized entities, i.e. - BCS Champion, AP Champion, UPI, etc. [User: Donpablito, 12:32, 24 March 2007]

SOMEONE HAD DELETED THESE COMMENTS I MADE BACK IN MARCH

The NCAA does not officially recognize any football national championships. All of them are mythical. Please leave the footnotes as they are. This is not an affront to LSU. I'm a huge LSU fan, but I want to accurately reflect the state of the sport. Seancp 19:08, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just to add a little more here: The NCAA has a page that lists all recognized national championships for every school. Football is not listed because it is not recognized. These footnotes are there to show the reader which championships are recognized and which are not. Read the entire section for more info. Seancp 19:12, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Article title: LSU vs. Louisiana State University

[edit]

Why is the abbreviation LSU used for this article's title? I propose it should be renamed to Louisiana State University Tigers. --SidP (talk) 20:57, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
