"Best countries?"

[edit]

Correct me if I'm wrong, y'all, but the "Best countries" section seems... goofy. There's no criteria for what makes one country better than another and no sources whatsoever. Needs clarification on what makes a country objectively better for pride events. AxolotlFridge (talk) 03:38, 12 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Absolutely seconded, needs context, according to what metric? Helicasehaley (talk) 22:00, 24 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. I saw that it was tagged as 'citation needed' - no, I think we should chuck the whole thing. If we get consensus, I'm deleting it. It really adds nothing to the article. Kazamzam (talk) 16:41, 25 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. Most of the article already details pride events in different countries and regions around the world, you can draw your own conclusions about which ones are subjectively "better" than others by reading about them instead of having them spoon-fed to you by a list that feels more like a WatchMojo ranking than a Wikipedia article. Image diversity and Urban bias

[edit]

@Castncoot: Please stop doing NYC Boosterism on LGBT pages. Pride events are a global phenomenon and have relevance in US States and cities not just in New York or California. This page and others should reflect this. WP:BOOSTER.
Changes

  • In the lead section I am returning it back to its neutral statement before you changed it to focus on NYC. I lead with Chicago because it was the first (if only by a day) Pride parade, the rest follow.
  • I am returning the photos you removed and replaced with a NYC photo. The Iowa City, IA and El Paso, TX Pride Parade's photos replaced the numerous NYC pride photos that were on the page (including a photo of the very non-parade like Stonewall Inn you added as the lead infobox image) in an effort to diversify the page to show the expansion of Pride Parades into smaller cities around the US. Myotus (talk) 16:01, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    • DUE WEIGHT means just that. I hope you understand that saying you want to exclude any New York image is an unhealthy attitude and actually violates WP:NPOV policy and WP:UNDUE guidelines. I absolutely welcome the Iowa and El Paso pictures, it's just that you had initially inserted them into the incorrect section, which you've now corrected, just as you had miscaptioned the infobox picture. On the other hand, I'm the one who had removed the File:NYC Pride March 2022 -i---i- (52176731712).jpg image simply to consolidate images, but I'm happy to return it right back since you don't want the NYC Dyke March image, which I had thought would actually be constructive because it's an offshoot from a typical mainline Pride March. I do hope you understand though how shortsighted it is to say that any image of any Pride March in NYC shouldn't be pictured simply because of its hyperfamiliarity. And that's precisely where the importance of DUE WEIGHT comes in. Castncoot (talk) 03:21, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think you are confusing Due Weight with the issue of WP:OWNERSHIP.
There already is a NYC Pride March wikipedia article. I am not sure why you feel the need to blanket the 'Pride parade' with photos and minute details of NYC prides as well. There were four photos from NYC Pride parades (actually three, one was a photo of the Stonewall Inn used in the main infobox) on the page - additionally with the notable exception of Chicago, the rest of the photos were from the East or West coasts. Both text and photos did not represent the diversity of the US Pride parades.
You mention that I had inserted Iowa and El Paso photos into the incorrect section. I used to the Iowa photo to replace a contemporary photo of a Brooklyn Pride Parade which made even less sence in the section than the Iowa parade. Looking at past photos in the History section none of them did a good job illustrating the section and only served as clutter. I have added an image that I hope does a better job illustrating the section. I have moved the photo of the two people in miniskirts down to the "Largest pride events" section as that is what the caption of the photo reflects. Myotus (talk) 05:37, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
      • I take offense at your statement, and there's no need to be hostile and confrontational. And um, by the way, your initial section title here was just plain offensive and unnecessarily confrontational. Let's change the title to something more constructive that people can actually build on. Finally, the East and West coasts and also Chicago are where much of the LGBT activism is, so it's understandable that they would be displayed in more photographs than Alaska. Castncoot (talk) 06:25, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Let's get something straight (no pun intended). Wikipedia has an issue with white male entitlement amongst its white male editors who make up the bulk of its editors. It affects how articles are written (or not written) and how white male editors treat and respond to non-white male editors (not very well). This is also an issue with many urban dweller editors on Wikipedia and their level of entitlement.
For example, let's modify one of your statements and change out locations with gender to reflect entitlement in a misogynistic lens then hope it will become apparent how offensive and biased your type of arguments are:
"Finally, gay men are where much of the LGBT activism is, so, understandably, they would be displayed in more photographs than lesbians."
Wikipedia has recognized its issues with gender bias and is working on it and to a leaser extend for racial and ethnic bias.
And while Geographical bias on Wikipedia has also been recognized as an issue in relation to countries and Western society, urban bias has not yet been confronted. However, the Pride parade article is a good poster child for this issue. Myotus (talk) 14:07, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • we need so many pictures? why. the words are saying it all , no? 2601:84:8780:26F0:2108:A84B:A660:9A27 (talk) 00:24, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Page title - Pride parade or Pride event?

[edit]

Would the page be better titled as Pride event? Pride event covers, Parade/march, Festival and even Protest. Pride parade really only should cover parades, however, Pride festival, Pride march AND Pride event redirect here. Even the title Pride festival might be better as there are many Pride festivals without parades but only a few parades without festivals. Thoughts? Myotus (talk) 21:01, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
