Minnesota Vikings

[edit]

Is there enough of a rivalry here to sustain a page? Vikings are the fourth most played playoff opponent for the 49ers. One of the top rivalries in the NFL in the 1980's. Perhaps its too stale for a separate rivalry page but was curious 49ers fans thoughts. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jackmar1 (talkcontribs) 23:54, 13 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Record VS. Opponents Inaccurate & Winning Percentages

[edit]

The chart listing the records versus opponents needs to be updated. The source that is cited is out of date as of November 16, 2010.

It also appears that contributors have updated some of the win/loss records in this category, but have failed to update the winning percentage in the category.

A reliable source for the records needs to be found and intigrated into this page. Nacuta1983 (talk) 18:26, 16 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Adjustment to franchise history periods needed?

[edit]

In retrospect it seems that the actual significant breaks in recent history happened in 2003 and 2008. As in, there is a period of losing seasons and multiple high level coaching changes that occurred in that period. Mooch was fired in after 2002 season and thus began the losing season streak continuing through the 2008 season when Nolan was fired. With Singletary at the helm in 2009 the 49ers had the first non-losing season since 2002.

The problem is that the current breaks in the article cover a period from 1999-2003 then 2004-2007 and now 2008-2009. Does anyone else agree that it should be rearranged to cover 1999-2002, 2003-2008 and then 2009-current? I wanted to get some group feedback first since that is a big change. They also lost the super bowl to the ravens.

How come the newer team logo is not on the site, also where is the old team logo here are links to the logos I am talking about

2007 & 2008 49er Rookies & Free Agent Acquisitions

[edit]

I would like to add to the 2007 season the accomplishments of some the 49er rookies and free agents. I also want to create a new post for the 2008 season about new rookies and free agent acquisitions. My opinions will be unbiased.... do you have any say or want to tell me of anything to be added for sure? --49erhead (talk) 08:06, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This article needs a bit of clean up. I didn't tag it yet, but it's POV language needs addressing. The facts (which are stated) should speak for themselves without embellishments. --Fcsuper (talk) 05:45, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I was thinking if wikipedia has a page about the 49ers rivalry between the 49ers and the Rams why don't they have any more. I mean, the 49ers shared other great rivalries with the Giants, Packers, Raiders and probably thier most greatest rivals the Dallas Cowboys.

I think its the Patriots now intead. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.69.155.2 (talk) 05:42, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The Niners don't have any rivalry with the Raiders - they play in different leag ... err, divisions. The rivalry is between the fans. Raiders are (used to be) the blood-and-guts team while the Niners were the fancy-pants sissies. The teams have changed totally while the fans .. well, it's still East Bay grease vs SF yuppies. Old days rivalry was mostly with the Rams but they're gone now. Seattle is probably the closest to a real rivalry today but the Niners are so pitiful that it's hard to get worked up about anything. 116.231.74.1 (talk) 14:03, 3 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

When I was a managing editor, I used to ask my reporters to avoid Wikipedia like the plague because the reliability of the information is questionable in some cases. Although I still cast a skeptical eye toward it, I was quite impressed with Wikipedia’s 49er page.

San Francisco 49ers' new uniforms for the 2009 season.

[edit]

Everyone,

Please respect the 49ers' organization and DO NOT post any pictures until they have officially revealed them during the 2009 NFL Draft. Even though I have already seen them and I've already created the new uniforms for their Wikipedia page, out of respect to the 49ers, I'm holding off until after the Draft. I expect everyone else who uses Wikipedia to do the same.

Thank you,

  • UPDATE - Yahoo News has broken the story on the 49ers uniforms and they are no longer a secret. I posted the uniforms on their wiki-page, but I've decided to put the blank template back up until the NFL Draft when the 49ers will officially unveil them.

NOR synthesis, should be deleted?

[edit]

Deletion consideration for the third paragraph's uncited and apparent synthesis claims as well as the "only team" sentence in the second paragraph, it has been suggested that merely interpreting what a list of facts states is considered to be NOR and possibly synthesis. I am attempting to get clarification on this (been a number of days without response). I may be wrong discussing this PRIOR to deletion of facts even though those facts may be synthesized since the consensus seems to be to delete facts first then "synthesize" a rationalization for it. Also citations are necessary for that sentence. Thank you for your time. Hholt01 (talk) 07:47, 30 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Contradiction in first touchdown scored

[edit]

The text in the article reads:

The franchise's first touchdown was scored by Alyn Beals. The first score in 49ers history came on an exquisitely executed passing play. Quarterback Frankie Albert, a scrambling left-hander, tossed a 6-yard pass to halfback John Strzykalski, who tossed a lateral to Len Eshmont, who raced down the sideline toward the end zone for a play that covered 66 yards under the foggy afternoon skies of Kezar Stadium on September 8, 1946.

So which one is it? Beals or Eshmont?DragonFury (talk) 18:51, 17 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Why not tell the truth about their location

[edit]

They are in Santa Clara. Why play along with their lie that they're anywhere near San Francisco? They're not, and a site dedicated to facts should be ashamed for trying to shove this lie down our throats. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.149.43.225 (talk) 05:52, 18 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

49ers are not located in San Francisco and do not belong in the "Sports in San Francisco" Category. Proximity is not valid argument for inclusion in this category. E.g. the Oakland Raiders are not included in the "Sports in San Francisco" category. History of the franchise is not a valid argument for inclusion in this category. E.g. the "Tennessee Titans" page is not in the "Sports in Houston, Texas" category. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.207.38.139 (talk) 19:39, 5 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

49ers' name and stadium location

[edit]

I think NFL home territories can be 100 miles away from the city in the team's name unless there's another NFL team within that radius. By that rule, going north-south the 49ers could play in a stadium in Salinas and still be named the San Francisco 49ers. Going East-West, half the distance to the Oakland would be the dividing point. The NFL's NY Giants and NY Jets both play in a different state -- New Jersey, but 15 miles away from NYC. When a Senator as powerful as Dianne Feinstein says that the 49ers could move to the South Bay but they couldn't discard the "San Francisco" from their name, they didn't. But she would have probably been powerless to stop them from moving. Even though the team is a San Francisco area team I call them the Santa Clara 49ers. If we had a strict rule about stadium location, we'd have had names like the Irving or Arlington Cowboys, the East Rutherford Jets, the Orchard Park Bills, and the Pontiac Lions. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.222.140.197 (talk) 08:11, 28 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Article

[edit]

The citations are very good and realiable. The article was good at avoiding any bias or personal feeling about the San Francisco 49ers in the article. Nothing was distracting or took me away from learning about the history of the team and current information about the team. Nothing at all reandom like the Chicago White socks or if the team sucks or not.

Tmontford (talk) 03:12, 3 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

There seem to be quite a few errors in the article that need to be corrected. Two that I immediately noticed were “above” before “Bayern soccer team” and “Coastal Division” as designating the team’s affiliation from 1950 thru 1970 (the team was in the NFL’s Coastal Division for only three seasons (1967-1969).

These are errors that I noticed upon looking at the very first part of the article for just a few minutes. I would bet my right arm that there are many others.

Such mistakes are embarrassing! Rforstag (talk) 15:15, 19 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Remove citation needed from draft pick

[edit]

There is a "citation needed" after "The 49ers also selected quarterback Colin Kaepernick from the University of Nevada, Reno with the 36th overall pick in the second round" in the "2011-2014: Jim Harbaugh Era" section.

Given that multiple other points in the article give draft pick information without citations, and that it's not particularly controversial information, I'd propose simply removing the tag. So, replace:

The 49ers also selected quarterback Colin Kaepernick from the University of Nevada, Reno with the 36th overall pick in the second round.[citation needed]

with

The 49ers also selected quarterback Colin Kaepernick from the University of Nevada, Reno with the 36th overall pick in the second round.

The end of the "2015 - Present" section needs to be corrected / updated, specifically this blurb:

"After hiring John Lynch as general manager and Kyle Shanahan as head coach, the Niners started the 2017 season with nine losses. After a win vs. the New York Giants and a loss vs. the Seattle Seahawks, the 49ers traded for New England Patriots backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. They won their next four games with Garoppolo at the helm.[53]"

It should be edited to something along the lines of:

"After hiring John Lynch as general manager and Kyle Shanahan as head coach, the Niners started the 2017 season with nine losses. After a win vs. the New York Giants and a loss vs. the Seattle Seahawks on either side of their bye week, the 49ers swapped rookie quarterback C.J. Beathard for Jimmy Garoppolo. Garoppolo was acquired on October 30 through a trade with the New England Patriots.[1] They won their next five games with Garoppolo at the helm to finish the season 6-10" Tru2chevy (talk) 20:06, 1 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
