COVID-19 Censorship[edit]

Is there a reason this topic is not listed under Controversies? MiXT4PE (talk) 22:19, 17 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Proof of censorship ? It will be better if you assume good faith and not trust conspiracy against tencent. -- Eatcha 12:55, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Contributors are certainly not obligated to personally assume positive intent or best behavior when it comes to the topics they may study; we are certainly obligated, though, to ignore the disreputable newspapers and magazines that would propagate unverified conspiracies or negative claims. 84.84.125.131 (talk) 22:44, 19 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Should Tencent Games be it's own article?[edit]

I've noticed that the section about Tencent's gaming investments has grown by a lot. I'm wondering if the section is big enough to have its own article, preferably related to Tencent's division Tencent Games. 80.223.245.192 (talk) 18:38, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, It's one of the biggest. -- Eatcha 12:53, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes it should be its own article, they have made a lot of investments and the companies they invested in can not have their own articles but intead can be mentioned in the Tencent Games articles instead of the main Tencent article.DownTownRich (talk) 16:13, 28 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
As long as you have enough sources for that. AXONOV (talk) 17:59, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I was also thinking this when I thought about adding all releases of all time. Especially since the internal but independently operating studios do not have enough independent sources to have their article pages, but it would be for sure informative and for the bigger picture of having an own article page for this division and listing in-depth information. Though, as of now, it's not large enough in my eyes, it may be moved when there is more information. Especially history-wise that reflect the divisions of the divisions (IEG has its divisions after public information I can see on their recruiting page and through news articles that some-what mentioned the division of the division or the division of the subsidiaries division. It gets complex as more I and other editors would want to share. Also, I believe subsidiaries of subsidiaries do not belong to this article page when the subsidiary has its page, right? Like, when we take the newly announced subsidiary of TiMi Studio Group) @DownTownRich & @Eatcha Law of Royale (talk) 11:11, 29 October 2021 (UTC) Daveburstein (talk) 14:44, 25 December 2021 (UTC) Did not change substance. Did remove outdated and promotional content. Replaced general claims with specific facts. Did little to product sections, which need editing for clarity[reply]

This final comment would be best indented with its own heading, and signed afterward with four tildes, to cut down on confusion. I'll take a look at what it refers to; in the future including a "diff" (a link to the changes in the contribution history) can also help facilitate group efforts and review. 84.84.125.131 (talk) 22:47, 19 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I went ahead and reverted, in large part because your removed swathes of referenced information were extremely large. My comment in the contribution history reads: "revert rmvls of cited info by Daveburstein on Dec 25, which had minimal explanation; when rmving 24,000 kbs (yikes), best form is facilitating consensus with point-by-point explanations on talk page." I would recommend separating your additions from removals and partition descriptions of your particularly bold actions. 84.84.125.131 (talk) 23:45, 19 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Request for History section updates[edit]

Hi editors, this is Yeran from the Tencent Comms team, nice meeting you here. As such, I won't be making any direct edits to the article, and am instead hopeful that editors can review my requests and implement them if they judge them to be an improvement. Truly grateful for your assistance.

Below please find a suggested edit for the History section, specifically "2011–2014: Early investments" and "2015-2020: Continued investments". Request to update information on headquarters and business divisions[edit]

Hello again, Wikipedia editors. I'm back with a request on the Top section.

Right now, the current paragraph provides details about Tencent's current headquarters but does not include any information about their new, upcoming headquarters. In addition, it doesn't provide a full picture of the business divisions under Tencent, such as Tencent Video, Tencent Games, etc. Hence, we recommend the below changes to provide readers with a more comprehensive understanding of the company:

Founded in 1998, its subsidiaries globally market various Internet-related services and products, including in entertainment, artificial intelligence, and other technology.[5] Its twin-skyscraper headquarters, Tencent Seafront Towers (also known as Tencent Binhai Mansion) are based in the Nanshan District of Shenzhen.[6] Tencent is the world's largest video game vendor,[7] as well as one of the largest companies in the world by market capitalization.[8] It is among the largest social media,[9] venture capital, and investment corporations.[10][11] Its services include social networks, music, web portals, e-commerce, mobile games, internet services, payment systems, smartphones, and multiplayer online games.[12] It operates the instant messengers Tencent QQ and WeChat, and QQ.com.[13] It also owns Tencent Music.

Known as Tencent Helix, it will accommodate over 23,000 employees across nearly 500,000 square meters (5.38 million square feet), which is almost twice the size of Apple’s California headquarters, from 2028. Tencent is the world's largest video game vendor,[7] as well as one of the most financially valuable companies.[8] It is among the largest social media,[9] venture capital, and investment corporations.[10][11] Its services include social networks, music, web portals, e-commerce, mobile games, internet services, payment systems, smartphones, and multiplayer online games.[12] It operates the instant messengers Tencent QQ and WeChat (Weixin in Chinese) , Qzone and QQ.com.[13] It also owns Tencent Music, Tencent Video, Tencent Games, Tencent Cloud, Tencent Pictures, Tencent Sports, Tencent Esports, Tencent Animation and Comics and Tencent AI Lab.

The comparison to apple headquarters and subsidiaries with "Tencent" in name are unnecessary. The addition of the new headquarters plans meaningfully adds to article. Thanks! Jasavina (talk) 15:01, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Request for Research section updates[edit]

Hi Wiki editors, this is Yeran from Tencent again. I'm here with another request and edit suggestions for the Research section.

The Research section would benefit from including some of Tencent's more recent and significant research projects beyond the one from 2007. This would help readers gain a better understanding of Tencent's research efforts that impact the society.

In 2020, as part of Tencent’s efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, Tencent established an AI Joint Lab with renowned expert Dr. Zhong Nanshan to conduct research on disease screening, prevention, and outbreak warnings. Tencent also created an AI-powered platform to accelerate drug discovery in collaboration with various scientific research institutions. Additionally, Tencent improved the efficiency of CT diagnostics with an AI-assisted auxiliary diagnostic engine and developed an AI-powered model for forecasting the trend of COVID-19. In 2023, Tencent announced its partnership with the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) to establish a Digital Seed Bank at the Tencent Science and Technology Museum with an aim to support agricultural research and educate the public about agricultural science. The Digital Seed Bank showcased three-dimensional digital displays of germplasm resources preserved at the National Crop Genebank of China, along with seed-storage and breeding technologies.

In 2023, Tencent introduced its AI large language model Hunyuan which had more than 100 billion parameters and was pre-trained with over 2 trillion tokens. It is a general-purpose model with advanced Chinese language processing, logical reasoning, and reliable task execution capabilities. It provided a range of functions including image creation, copywriting and text recognition that could be applied in multiple industries such as finance, social media, e-commerce and video gaming.

Request to create a new section for Social Responsibility[edit]

Hi Wiki editors, this is Yeran from Tencent. I'm here with another suggestion to create a new section about Social Responsibility. As many may aware, there are quite a number of notable initiatives back by Tencent on philanthropy, environmental sustainability, and community development currently not made known in this page. The addition of such section and related activities will provide readers with a better understanding of what have been done by Tencent in this space.

In June 2007, Tencent established Tencent Charity Foundation, marking the first charitable foundation by an Internet enterprise in China.  The Foundation also built the world’s largest online public fundraising platform the same month through leveraging Tencent’s Internet technical capabilities and online platforms, opening doors for eligible charitable organizations to run their charitable work transparently and for free. By the end of 2019, the platform hosted more than 10,000 active charitable organizations and supported more than 60,000 charitable projects.

In 2008, Tencent Charity Foundation launched a missing-person search and donation platform shortly after the Wenchuan earthquake.

In September 2011, The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) forged its first strategic partnership with Tencent and Tencent Charity Foundation to fight global hunger. Tencent Charity Foundation made an initial RMB 1 million donation to support school feeding programmes in Cambodia and China, with over 8,500 children receiving one nutritious meal each day. WFP and Tencent Foundation also launched an innovative online monthly donation fundraising campaign on Tencent’s charity platform.

In 2015, Tencent Charity Foundation launched its "99 Giving Day", and it has since become an annual global campaign held every September where Tencent would match any donations made by the public through its online platform. In 2023, Tencent extended its donation-matching system beyond the Tencent Charity Platform for the first time to achieve true cross-platform donation matching and user-centric impact. A special incentive fund of RMB 100 million (US$14.5 million), supplementing the core RMB 300 million of matched donation funding, was set up to support new and innovative philanthropy projects. Since the program began in 2015, donations now total more than RMB 13 billion and participation exceeds 280 million, supporting more than 130,000 philanthropic projects.

In September 2016, Tencent Charity Foundation initiated the Tencent Great Wall Protection Project jointly with the China Foundation for Culture Heritage Conservation to the protection of The Great Wall of China. Tencent Charity Foundation donated more than RMB 35 million to support the repair project, contributing to the renovation of two sections of the Great Wall in Beijing and Xifengkou in Hebei Province. Additionally, the “Protecting the Great Wall, Count Me In” campaign attracted more than 400,000 participants by the end of 2018, achieving record-breaking participation in a cultural heritage project and the most funds raised on the platform to date.

In November 2018, Tencent Charity Foundation donated RMB$1 billion to initiate the Xplorer Prize award targeting outstanding young scientists in areas of basic science and cutting-edge technologies. There will be no more than 50 awardees every year, and the award winners in 2024 will each receive RMB 3 million over 5 years.

In July 2023, Tencent supported a group of scientists from Nanjing University led by Professor Zhu Bin to cover a small area of the Dagu Glacier, which was located 5,000 meters above sea level of Tibetan Plateau in southwestern China, with a thin white sheet of nano-material in an experimental attempt to prevent the glacier from melting. This material was developed from eco-friendly cellulose acetate and could radiate energy beyond the earth’s atmosphere into space, resulting in more effective cooling with its higher reflective rate of over 92 percent.
