Per capita income for the town is $13,302? Wow! That's well below the poverty line.

Vinton, Louisiana article accuracy

[edit]

There are numerous things wrong or inaccurate about this article. I am gathering evidence and references to correct this article. Briefly, here some things to note: 1) The Old Spanish Trail is in fact an old Native American trail that was used by the Spanish to connect their forts and missions in Florida and Texas. 2) Seaman A. Knapp acquired numerous tracts of land in Calcasieu Parish, but none where the town of Vinton was established. Currently, the bulk of Vinton is in Section 15, Township 10S Range 12W. Seaman Knapp, along with his partner Alexander Thomson, only had two properties that they purchased from the government on February 27, 1890 in T10S R12W. Those were 160 acres in the SE1/4 of Section 22 and 80 acres the NE1/4 of SW1/4 and SE1/4 of NW1/4 of Section 21 (www.glorecords.blm.gov). These locations were at least 1/2 mile away from where Vinton would be established. 3) Residents were not evicted from the "Neutral Strip". Those persons found to have been residing in the Neutral Strip prior to January 1, 1806 (Lieutenant Jose Maria Guadiana, 1810), or could show proper grant from either the Spanish or French government, were allowed to stay. Only those that settled after January 1, 1806 (the date agreed upon when the Neutral Strip was established), were evicted and their houses burned. 4) This supposed "forced relocation" action did not continue through the Civil War. The ban on new settlers lasted only until the Adams-Onis Treaty of 1819 established the boundary between Spanish Texas and the United Stated owned Louisiana as the Sabine River. 5) Article implies that Knapp bought land from the government prior to 1887 and that the Southern Real Estate and Gauranty Company purchased all the land by April 1889. However, as already noted, Knapp and Thomson didn't purchase land in Township 10S Range 12W until 1890. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JGreen901 (talkcontribs) 20:28, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Severe weather

[edit]

There have been two major tornadoes in Vinton. The first was an F4 on November 7, 1957 and the other was an F3 on April 17, 1973. I don't think this is relevant however so I'm not going to include it in the article.--Kevjgav (talk) 14:00, 12 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
