Tips
  • Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
  • It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
  • If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
  • Always use edit summaries to explain your changes.
  • When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.
  • If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
  • Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.

Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This standard message is designed as an introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

ARBPIA restrictions

[edit]

The Arbitration Committee has imposed special restrictions on topics broadly related to the Arab-Israeli conflict (ARBPIA). Of most relevance to you is that the extended-confirmed restrictions apply, meaning that you are not permitted to edit articles related to the topic until you have 500 edits. Your only rights are to make edit requests on article talk pages (not to engage in general discussion). You were provided with a link to this information in October (above) but you did not conform to it. Now that I have explained it in more detail, you are expected to cease your violations immediately. Notice of Arbitration Enforcement noticeboard discussion

[edit]

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a report involving you at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Enforcement regarding a possible violation of an Arbitration Committee decision. The thread is Request concerning שמי (2023). Thank you. Zerotalk 12:30, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

December 2023

[edit]
To enforce an arbitration decision, and for continued violations of WP:ECR, you have been blocked from editing Wikipedia for a period of 1 week. You are welcome to edit once the block expires; however, please note that the repetition of similar behavior may result in a longer block or other sanctions.

If you believe this block is unjustified, please read the guide to appealing blocks (specifically this section) before appealing. Place the following on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Please copy my appeal to the [[WP:AE|arbitration enforcement noticeboard]] or [[WP:AN|administrators' noticeboard]]. Your reason here OR place the reason below this template. ~~~~}}. If you intend to appeal on the arbitration enforcement noticeboard, I suggest you use the arbitration enforcement appeals template on your talk page so it can be copied over easily. You may also appeal directly to me (by email), before or instead of appealing on your talk page.

Reminder to administrators: In May 2014, ArbCom adopted the following procedure instructing administrators regarding Arbitration Enforcement blocks: "No administrator may modify a sanction placed by another administrator without: (1) the explicit prior affirmative consent of the enforcing administrator; or (2) prior affirmative agreement for the modification at (a) AE or (b) AN or (c) ARCA (see "Important notes" [in the procedure]). Administrators modifying sanctions out of process may at the discretion of the committee be desysopped."

Hello, I just saw the announcement about the arbitration. While I was writing, I saw the message about the blocking.
First, until December 20, 2023, no notification about "ARBPIA restrictions" was sent. I knew there were limitations but I thought the limitations only applied where the pages could not be edited. I found out about it when I saw the message on the talk page (and it also took some time before I saw this message, not on the same day if I'm not mistaken).
Second, a significant part of my edits on the English Wikipedia (mainly the new ones) are unrelated to the conflict. This is not about wars, the peace process, mutual claims of the parties and the relations between them. Most of my edits dealt with rural areas, rural settlements or archeology in Israel. שמי (2023) (talk) 13:04, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Per WP:ARBECR, you may only make edit requests for AI articles and I have reverted your edits at Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip (2023–present). Since you have already been blocked once for violating ECR, please take care that you comply with the restrictions. Selfstudier (talk) 18:39, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Can't I even suggest ideas on the talk page? Also, why is there no restriction on the ability to edit like on the page about the Israel-Hamas war? שמי (2023) (talk) 18:43, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The restriction is spelled out in WP:ARBECR, please read it. The only thing you may do until you have 500 edits is make straightforward edit requests. Whether a page is protected is a separate matter from the restrictions, although it often happens that an AI related article will be protected following disruption of some sort. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Shufersal, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Competition Authority. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, --DPL bot (talk) 17:57, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Bumper sticker, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page New York.
