Non-grammatical changes and strange phrasing[edit]

You seem to be making a lot of changes to articles that are not grammatical. Are you sure your proficiency in English is adequate to be making these sort of changes? —DIYeditor (talk) 20:04, 6 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

On further review I think I will have to ask for administrator intervention if you do not choose to stop making insubstantial edits to articles under the guise of copy editing or improving the grammar. You are making a lot of mistakes. —DIYeditor (talk) 20:07, 6 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You should not edit quotes without reference to the source of the quotes. Please stop. —DIYeditor (talk) 20:10, 6 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Warning icon Hi Achaudhary0205, I noticed that despite the warning above, you are continuing to make ungrammatical changes to the wording of numerous articles. I reverted one such edit at Khan el-Khalili. Your level of English writing does not seem to be adequate for you to be making this kinds of edits, so please stop this immediately as request by the previous editor above. If you'd like to make revisions to articles but you need some help, please discuss on the talk pages of articles instead.
If you continue to edit as you are now, you are at risk of being blocked from further editing. R Prazeres (talk) 20:47, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Direct quotes[edit]

In your edit to Animals as Leaders, you changed the wording of a direct quote. Never do that. Schazjmd (talk) 21:01, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked[edit]

From your lack of response to the warnings here, it looks like you may not be aware of having this page, your own talkpage. To help you find it, I have blocked you indefinitely. Please respond appropriately below. Then you may be unblocked. Bishonen | tålk 08:21, 15 February 2023 (UTC).[reply]

I apologize for the unprecedented results as my intentions were only to enhance the productivity of the pages and to make the pages more readable for the users. Its my sincere request that such misdemeanor will not be repeated as I am working on my English proficiency to make it viable enough for the Wikipedia Platform. Achaudhary0205 (talk) 12:23, 15 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have two points, before I can consider unblocking you:
  • 1) I'm afraid your English isn't yet proficient enough to correct articles in the English Wikipedia. You have so far been introducing grammatical errors rather than removing them. Please see the examples in this noticeboard thread. "Requesting" that such edits not be repeated isn't the point; you, yourself, have to not repeat them.
  • 2) You have repeatedly made changes in actual quotations, which you have been warned about above. Quotations must be exact, and must not be altered to what you see as better.
If you want to help Wikipedia, I suggest you make grammar corrections in the Wikipedia for your native language, rather than here. Also, you must completely leave quotations alone. Please state below if you will undertake to stop attempting English corrections until you have improved your English by other means, and to stop making changes in quotations. Also, please let me know what kinds of edits you will make here instead. And finally, please undertake to respond to people who reach out to you on this page, as several have done above, and to show that you understand what they say. If you comply with these points, I'll consider unblocking you. Bishonen | tålk 13:00, 15 February 2023 (UTC).[reply]
Once again I apologize for the grammatical errors that have been caused from my end. I will only try to add relevant sources to the articles rather than making any irrelevant changes in the existing articles. Therefore, before editing any article I will cross-verify everything so that no mistakes are repeated. Hence, no quotations will be edited or altered again. Achaudhary0205 (talk) 18:19, 15 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If you don't mind me asking, what is your native language? The reason I ask is because, as Bishonen said, you might be better at home editing on your language's Wiki - that way it's less likely you'll run into grammatical issues. The problem isn't just editing quotations, but your language in general. Based on your username, I assume you're from India. Might I suggest you create an account on https://hi.wikipedia.org? It's the 2nd biggest Wikipedia, so you'll have plenty of articles to work on. — Czello 10:42, 16 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Czello gives you good advice, Acgaudhary. Also, you have not responded to my condition that you reply to warnings and advice on this page. However, I have assumed that you will do so, and, experimentally, I have unblocked you. Please edit very cautiously. If you start introducing errors again, or if you again ignore warnings here, I'm afraid you will be reblocked, despite your good intentions. Bishonen | tålk 11:23, 16 February 2023 (UTC).[reply]
Thank you for the unblock. I will make sure that extraneous editing will not occur again in future. Achaudhary0205 (talk) 15:15, 16 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Making only substantial edits to articles from reliable sources paying attention to WP:CITE would be a good approach I think if you are determined to edit in English, rather than trying to copy edit. Perhaps you could focus on topics you are familiar with rather than (seemingly) random articles. Then if you do make a few grammatical errors it will just be a matter of cleaning them up. If you are serious about editing Wikipedia you should spend time familiarizing yourself with policies and best practices.
I suggest reading over every edit you make carefully, thinking about what it means rather than just looking at it on a superficial level, and ensuring there are no mistakes to the best of your ability. Also, in particular you should beware of extraneous articles (a, an, the) because you do not seem to have much grasp at all of when it would be more natural or correct to omit or include them - especially "the".
Good luck. —DIYeditor (talk) 12:30, 16 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The articles will never be edited again on a superficial level, In fact thorough analysis and review of the subject will be considered as a priority before publishing any changes. Achaudhary0205 (talk) 15:18, 16 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi Achaudhary0205, I hope you don't mind a few words from me. Firstly, thank you for wanting to help. I've been reviewing and correcting some of your recent edits, though I haven't finished yet.

To copyedit articles productively, you first need a very good command of English. English is not a language that works by applying consistent prescriptive rules of grammar. For example, it is not always correct to have a definite article ("the") or indefinite article ("a", "an") before a noun. Very often, the bare noun is correct, depending on context. Grammar in English very much depends on context, so you need to fully understand both grammar itself and context.

There's another problem when it comes to articles on technical subjects. Most technical subjects have their own terminology, and it often differs from everyday English. So changing a technical phrase to better reflect everyday English will often make it incorrect. So to copyedit a technical article successfully, you need to understand the technical subject itself in addition to understanding the contextual nature of grammar.

Anway, I hope this helps. And I hope you find an area where you can work productively - but you absolutely must stop trying to copyedit and grammatically improve existing articles. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 13:10, 16 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much for the advice. I will ensure that no grammatical issues will happen again and all the technical aspects of the content will be considered as a priority before publishing any changes. Achaudhary0205 (talk) 15:21, 16 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
