Caption on image

[edit]

Hello Amsaim. I was concerned about my lack of citation in the caption on the Fela Kuti photo but I was unsure of what kind of source I could offer since I cannot at the moment definitively pinpoint the date the photo was taken... But I *can* reasonably stress that the date presently displayed is wrong. What kind of evidence would suffice? Twinning73 (talk) 20:28, 16 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. As a new editor, you are best advised to fully acquaint yourself first with Wikipedia's Basic Policies and Guidelines before editing Wikipedia articles. As a general rule, what you should always keep in mind while editing, is that you need to source every material that you add to Wikipedia articles with reliable sources so that readers are able to verify the added material. Please note, that Wikipedia has its own definition of what a reliable source is, and what sources are regarded as unreliable. Adding unsourced material into Wikipedia articles is prohibited in Wikipedia, as this constitutes original research. Please read through the blue links. If you have other questions, I suggest you take them to Wikipedia's teahouse. Good luck. Amsaim (talk) 21:51, 16 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Amsaim, In your recent contribution to Eko Atlantic, your edit summary says, "removed material not found in the source", but Thisday's article title clearly says, "Clinton: Eko Atlantic City, Destination for Global Investment", and I hope that you do not expect that I record Channels Television's news broadcast for your viewing before it is considered being in the source. Thank you for the review, anyway. —JOHNMOORofMOORLAND (talk) 18:45, 24 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The material you added does not directly support what is written in the source. It is not clear if the title of the ThisDay article was an actual statement from the president. It could very well be a summary by the article writer. Usually, if a quotation is used as a newspaper article title, the same quotation is repeated in the article text. This is not the case in the newspaper article. Also, the material you added using Channels TV as a source, does not directly support the source. It appears as if you added material from what you saw/heard in the Channels TV broadcast without having any reliable source for it. Please familiarize yourself with Wikipedia's Core Policy of No Original Research. Amsaim (talk) 22:56, 24 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Do not misapply the rules, Thisday's article title is clear enough, it is a quote from the many things said by Clinton on that occasion, and as for Channels Television broadcast, if a recorded copy is not available online and I mentioned what I heard in the broadcast, you cannot call that original research — WP:SOURCESSource material must have been published (made available to the public in some form). I think you guys that chooses to execute or make sure the rules are kept here should do so without prejudice; I am not new here, and I do uphold the rules. —JOHNMOORofMOORLAND (talk) 11:12, 25 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Name of Article

[edit]

I am wanting to add a link from an article called 'Arugba' to the page 'African Movie Academy Award'. I feel after reviewing both articles that 'African Movie Academy Award' should be renamed to 'African Movie Academy Awards'. Basically just adding an 's' at the end. Thank you. -tylerscribble (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 11:53, 9 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
