Information icon Hello, I'm ZimZalaBim. I noticed that you removed topically relevant content from 2024 R. G. Kar Medical College and Hospital rape and murder. However, Wikipedia is not censored. ZimZalaBim talk 17:05, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @ZimZalaBim, Arijit Kisku (talk) 17:44, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I fully understand and respect the policy that Wikipedia is not censored. However, in this particular case, my intention in removing the victim's name was to protect their identity in accordance with ethical journalism standards and the potential legal implications in many jurisdictions. Publicizing the name of a victim in a rape and murder case can cause further harm to the victim’s family and is generally discouraged by major news outlets and legal frameworks worldwide.
I believe it is important for Wikipedia to balance its commitment to providing comprehensive information with the need to protect individuals’ privacy, particularly in such sensitive cases. Perhaps we could discuss an approach that maintains the article's integrity without compromising the victim’s privacy.
I also read several existing articles about same topic where victim's name mentioned nowhere. Some articles are mentioned here 2007 De Anza College rape investigation, 2009 Richmond High School gang rape, Steubenville High School rape case & Glen Ridge rape.
Arijit Kisku (talk) 18:02, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you want to make a case for removing the victim's name, then do so on the article's talk page. Creating a pseudonym is not a viable solution, however. --ZimZalaBim talk 18:09, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you.

R.G. Kar case

[edit]

Hey, I mentioned the name of the victim because it was widely released in social media and few national media outlets. Even in 2012 Delhi Gang rape case the victim's name Jyoti Singh has been mentioned in the wikipedia article primarily because the family was pro-awareness regarding such crimes. Either way, as it has been mentioned in various articles and social media platforms, I have added the victim's name in the wikipedia article as wikipedia is primarily a knowledge-based platform, we cannot just ingore that piece of information which is aleady in circulation. Indian laws should be followed but here i am not seeing any objection to the use of the victim's name. What is your opinion?

Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did in One Nation, One Election, disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. EnIRtpf09b (talk) 10:56, 19 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Major Radhika Sen 1.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Major Radhika Sen 1.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Ирука13 19:31, 10 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable non-free use File:Major Radhika Sen.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Major Radhika Sen.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of non-free use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of non-free use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable non-free use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file's talk page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. * Pppery * it has begun... 05:53, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
