Nonagenarians

In case you don't have him yet - James D. Hughes just turned 90. – Connormah (talk) 19:49, 15 July 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, I did have him, along with some others, I've just been a strange combination of busy/lazy over the last week. I'll go ahead and update it now, thanks for reminding me! Canadian Paul 21:44, 15 July 2012 (UTC)
Any chance you can pull a DOB/DOD for Hamp King? I suspect the ref in the article is an obit though it's a dead link. Web searches bring up references to "the late Hamp King", but I can't find an obit or anything. – Connormah (talk) 00:32, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
Hah, I spoke too soon, got him. Sorry the the disturbance :) – Connormah (talk) 00:37, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
I've been looking for T. M. F. Smith's DOB for a while with no success - those first two initials are getting me - can you take a look? Thanks. – Connormah (talk) 14:05, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
I did take a good look, but I couldn't find anything, sorry. Canadian Paul 11:53, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
Louis Crump, former President Pro Tempore of the Texas Senate is still alive (b. May 21, 1916)[1], if you're interested in creating an article for him. – Connormah (talk) 06:02, 11 August 2012 (UTC)
Hmmm, interesting, I might do that after the Olympics. Thanks! Hope that you haven't mind me Wikistalking you a bit and fixing up the categories by the way. Great work with the birth and death dates! Canadian Paul 19:26, 11 August 2012 (UTC)
No problem, though I should probably be apologizing for my laziness here... – Connormah (talk) 23:00, 11 August 2012 (UTC)
Another soon-to-be nonagenarian I just created an article for - former Spokane mayor David H. Rodgers. Washington State Rep. and Tacoma pioneer Zachary A. Vane could use an article as well - he served in the state leg. for 20 years and also lived to the age of 100, if you're interested. [2] [3] [4] [5]Connormah (talk) 17:49, 28 August 2012 (UTC)
(Forgot to hit "save page"). Thanks for the tips! I'll keep Rodgers in mind for next year and, once I'm not so busy, I'll try and create an article for Vane! Canadian Paul 18:46, 29 August 2012 (UTC)

Seeking your opinion

Hello again! Another user (with reviewer, rollbacker and autopatrolled rights) (and who is a patent lawyer for Bloomberg) has made some changes to the Apple Inc. litigation article, one of which is to remove the lead image, another is to remove the use of the two instances of the {{H:title}} template. The user assumed the lead image use was for "editorial comment", which might be one possible interpretation but was not intended that way. I don't want to tussle over things, but the edits seem hasty to me for an article that just cleared the GA review process. What do you think of this? thanks, Sctechlaw (talk) 21:54, 3 August 2012 (UTC)

I'm a little busy at the moment, but I'll have a look at it in the next day or two. Canadian Paul 22:10, 3 August 2012 (UTC)

DYK for Alaaeldin Abouelkassem

Hi. I just reviewed the Alaaeldin Abouelkassem DYK and have asked for a little clarification regarding the suggested hook. Thanks, violet/riga [talk] 22:45, 6 August 2012 (UTC)

Oldest British Olympian

Hi Paul,

This article mentions Bill Lucas as Britain's oldest living Olympian but also describes him as the "oldest surviving British athlete of the 1948 London Games". Not sure if these descriptions are 100% compatible. What do you think? Cheers, DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 21:24, 21 August 2012 (UTC)

Well, regarding his status as Britain's oldest Olympian, there are two that I believe to be older. Someone claiming to be a relative keeps editing Arthur Smith's article, claiming that he was born in February 1915 and is still living in Belgium. I haven't been able to verify it, but it would be an odd string of vandalism if it weren't true. Then there's Cecelia Wolstenholme, who was alive in October 2008 according to her sister's obituary, but that was nearly four years ago and I haven't seen anything since, so she may have died. Then of course there's the "possibly living" people, although those are most likely all deceased. So in short, I can't verify that any Briton is older than Lucas, but I suspect that there is someone out there.
As for the oldest British Olympian from 1948 London, barring any "possibly living" people being living, then it is true if by "athlete" they mean "track and field athlete". If not, then it depends on whether Smith is alive. Canadian Paul 14:55, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
Actually, one of my peers discovered that Wolstenholme has already died (a more careful reading of the obituary shows that the Cecelia mentioned as living in the obituary is actually Beatrice's daughter not sister). So Smith seems to be the only one older than Lucas. Canadian Paul 21:29, 22 August 2012 (UTC)

Talk page problem

FYI... You created several talk pages of Sumo wrestlers such as Talk:Wakafutase Tadayuki. Sumo wrestlers have a "different" name than normal Japanese people. Sumo wrestlers go surname first. So, Wakafutase is the surname and |listas= should be: |listas=Wakafutase, Tadayuki. Same goes for kabuki actors and artisans of traditional craft. Bgwhite (talk) 07:52, 14 September 2012 (UTC)

Oops, sorry, didn't know that! I will do that correctly from now on, thanks! Canadian Paul 15:16, 14 September 2012 (UTC)
Don't worry, there are only 5,492,496 more rules on how to sort via listas. Bgwhite (talk) 17:58, 14 September 2012 (UTC)

Update for: WikiProject Good articles (Participant Clean-Up)

Sorry for having to send out a second message but a user has brought to my attention that a point mentioned in the first message should be clarified. If user's don't sign on this page, they will be moved to an "Inactive Participants" list rather then be being removed from the entire WikiProject. Thank you

Thank you for adding birth/death dates for Ross McBurney, I looked all over for them. One question, were these freely available or do you subscribe to a service where you get these? Thanks. Rikster2 (talk) 20:19, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

The newspaper source was not free, but I stumbled across a preview of the obituary with Google News Archive search. For the date of birth, I searched the SSDI (for free, with this site) and matched up the DOD with a DOB. It's a little original researchy for the DOB, but it matches the information from the obituary, so I don't think it's likely to be challenged. Canadian Paul 20:27, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

McCreesh

I don't think there were 2 McCreeshes - he may have altered his YOB at some point, see the census records here - [6]. I'll see what I can pull from the obit if I can get access to it. Perhaps the term dates are incorrect - could you maybe poke around to see if there was someone of his name serving in the 60s and early 70s as the article says? Thanks. – Connormah (talk) 20:53, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

Well his profile at Political Graveyard in the external links section claims that he served past 1959, but they may have just copied Wikipedia... I'll take a look. Canadian Paul 20:59, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
The 1876 YOB census record matches up with aged 83 in 1959, BTW. Interesting... – Connormah (talk) 21:00, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
This also says he served until 1974... – Connormah (talk) 21:01, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
Also possible is that the Wikipedia page has combined the terms of John McCreesh and his son Thomas McCreesh, see this. What do you think? Canadian Paul 21:02, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
"The late" John J. McCreesh" (1963). I'll look into it. – Connormah (talk) 21:05, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
Well that was good timing... :) – Connormah (talk) 21:06, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
Here's a ref for Thomas McCreesh if you want to start an article on him, [7] - I think that's it. Now I wonder if John was born in 1881 or circa 1876... – Connormah (talk) 21:08, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
Phew, I think I'm taking a break from Wikipedia for the day, but I'll look into starting a new article later. Canadian Paul 21:09, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
Sounds good. Also, Thomas seems to be living per public records, for the record. – Connormah (talk) 21:12, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
If you haven't noticed I added a tag to John's article until we can sort out the term dates - from the obit it looks like he died in office - do you have an email I can forward it to? (maybe e-mail me using the e-mail function here and I can reply to it?) Thanks. – Connormah (talk) 04:55, 28 September 2012 (UTC)
Got the emails. I'll try and tidy up McCreesh later today. Canadian Paul 13:54, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
Okay, I gave it a shot. I think this is what would be done for a recent death that we couldn't look up in the SSDI. Let me know if it doesn't work for you. Canadian Paul 15:07, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
By the way, I've got Tommy Thompson's son's e-mail - 1967 is indeed the correct DOD for him. I'll see whatever else I can find (maybe full dates, etc.) – Connormah (talk) 15:35, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
Great, I thought that would be one of the toughest ones to get, so nice one. I also found Fred Appleyard (footballer) in England and Wales Death Index, so that's another off the list. Canadian Paul 15:38, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
Fiddled a bit more with McCreesh's article to note that he retired in 1958, I'll also maybe create an article for his son to help clear things up more. – Connormah (talk) 15:42, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, looks good. I've got a lot of articles on my list to create, so I'm not sure when I'd get the chance to get to McCreesh... Canadian Paul 15:43, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
Another note, former Director of the Joint Staff Patrick J. Hannifin looks to be nearing 90 (public records say he's 89) - I may get along to creating a stub for him soon but just thought I'd let you know. – Connormah (talk) 15:48, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
Cool, I've wikilinked his name in your comment to remind myself. Also, see below for the answer to one of your email questions. Canadian Paul 15:57, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

Bill Herring

Righty, I see. Where have you looked already for Herring? This may be a really tough one... – Connormah (talk) 16:14, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
The usual suspects: Google News, Familysearch, Google Books etc. with all the iterations of his name. He does show up a lot in Florida, which makes me think you are right with your record, but I can't prove it. Canadian Paul 16:22, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
Looked through a bit more about the Florida one, I'm pretty sure now that it isn't him - that one appears in Virginia in his early years while our Herring should probably be in one of the Carolinas at the time. I wonder where the 1973 retirement from scouting with the Mets came from. – Connormah (talk) 16:24, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
This one is interesting, it could be referring to him: "The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Robert Sauls of Columbia, the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Arthur Herring of Columbia". I would assume he is deceased anyways. Canadian Paul 16:28, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
Of course, another thing that might be throwing us off is his middle name, as it gets conflated with Art Herring who, for some inexplicable reason, also went by the name "Bill Herring". The newspaper article you sent me refers to him as "William B. "Bill" Herring". I wonder if Arthur isn't his middle name? Canadian Paul 16:37, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, that's a possibility as well. There is an Ancestry yearbook record for a William Arthur Herring at a North Carolina University, and Wake Forest 1934/5/6 yearbooks all show a Bill Herring on their baseball team, so at least we have the Wake Forest part right (I hope). Could try contacting Wake Forest about him. If you could find a name of a wife or another family member however it may make it way easier to find. The DOB first appeared in baseball-reference, correct? Searches for a William Herring in public records with that DOB show nothing I wonder where they derived it from... – Connormah (talk) 16:40, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
The DOB seems wrong anyways - he was already 40 in that article, which was dated June 12, 1952. Canadian Paul 16:44, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
In fact, if the year was 1911 rather than 1912, this could be our guy. Canadian Paul 16:49, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
Any evidence that he ever went by "Willie"? This seems like a good possibility as well. More or less something of what we currently have seems to be throwing us both off.... – Connormah (talk) 16:58, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
Unfortunately not, I couldn't find any evidence. Canadian Paul 17:05, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
Well I think the "A." middle initial is at least correct, the only source with the "B" that I've seen is the one I sent you... – Connormah (talk) 17:15, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
Oh and by the way if you feel up to it, I'm currently trying to go through these articles for DOD/DOBs, especially for the ones that served in the 80s and 70s. – Connormah (talk) 17:30, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
I'll add it to my list. Canadian Paul 14:59, 2 October 2012 (UTC)

Canadian politicians

So I'ev had success in e-mailing around Nova Scotia archives for Thomas Andrew Murray Kirk's DOD! Newfoundland's archives couldn't find a DOD for James Augustine Power however, but I've tried the legislature library to see if they can help. I'm going to forward all this to PARLINFO and hopefully get their pages updated as well. Full cite coming for Kirk when I get home later. Any new leads on any of the other names? – Connormah (talk) 19:26, 10 October 2012 (UTC)

Great stuff! Nothing new on Canadian politicians over here, although I did get YODs for three South African athletes, two of whom were born in 1907! Canadian Paul 19:27, 10 October 2012 (UTC)
Nice! We'll see if the Quebec archives can help on some of the MPs from there, and that somewhere in Newfoundland can help out with Power (looks like he wasn't married so we can't look for a spouse's obit IIRC)... fingers crossed... – Connormah (talk) 23:06, 10 October 2012 (UTC)
Success for Menard and Frechette, looks like they have a 1926-96 death index for Quebec. Sending you an e-mail too... – Connormah (talk) 22:32, 11 October 2012 (UTC)
Awesome. I responded. Canadian Paul 13:42, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
Responded again. Forwarded the last two to PARLINFO as well. Kirk's profile looks to be updated now, btw. – Connormah (talk) 13:52, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
Wow, they work fast. I'll get on those last Quebecers today; although there's a fair chance that they lived beyond 1996, it's worth a shot. Canadian Paul 13:53, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
So I think I asked again for Roland English and Jean-Paul St. Laurent, but I'm not sure if they'll do it again for me. Seems the only way to access the index is to go to the archives in Quebec (you're not in/near Quebec, are you?) or buy a subscription (or I can try Ancestry forums to see if someone wil access can help). If you could try the next two names after Frechette, maybe you'll have some more luck. – Connormah (talk) 21:42, 13 October 2012 (UTC)
Got Jean-Paul St-Laurent's DOD. – Connormah (talk) 04:25, 14 October 2012 (UTC)
Also Nérée Arsenault and George Richardson (Canadian politician). – Connormah (talk) 05:58, 14 October 2012 (UTC)
Also, Ed Kaeding IMO is most definitely alive, from these two obits [8] and [9] (Ctrl+F "Kaeding"), it seems he was married to an Alva (from the second link) and lived in the town the article says he administered. – Connormah (talk) 06:06, 14 October 2012 (UTC)
Some Quebec MPs with missing DODs - [10] and some more possibly living Quebec MPS [11] (a pretty useful tool for these types of things too!). – Connormah (talk) 23:27, 14 October 2012 (UTC)
Also, Saul Bonnell lived to 101. Here's two additional CatScans of YOD missing and Possibly living people in the MP cats - [12] [13]Connormah (talk) 03:19, 15 October 2012 (UTC)
Wow, that's a lot to go through! I'll check it all out shortly, but nice work on Richardson especially! Canadian Paul 14:30, 15 October 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. Going to try to e-mail the NS archives again for some of the Nova Scotia ones, they have an obit index for Halifax so hopefully they should be able to get some of them on the CatScan. I'll see about the QC Death Index, I'll look into it (should be able to find most of the MPs on there). – Connormah (talk) 02:29, 16 October 2012 (UTC)
Also, can you do some looking for Victor Forget? This may be his wife but I can't find anything concrete. He's probably deceased and b. c. 1905-1915 IMO, but I;ve been surprised before... – Connormah (talk) 02:35, 16 October 2012 (UTC)
E-mailed PARLINFo to see if there's any bios of him. Can you still do some looking though? Thx, – Connormah (talk) 05:11, 16 October 2012 (UTC)
Sure I'll take a look for Forget when I get a chance, although if you couldn't find anything... haha Canadian Paul 15:21, 17 October 2012 (UTC)
Paul-Edmond Gagnon and George Fairfield down... – Connormah (talk) 06:18, 20 October 2012 (UTC)
Nice! I saw James Augustine Power as well... Canadian Paul 17:05, 20 October 2012 (UTC)
Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention - I took a good, hard look for Forget, but couldn't find anything, sorry. Canadian Paul 17:45, 20 October 2012 (UTC)
Got some obits today for soe of the AB and NS ones today, check my contribs...(sorry I'm too lazy to do the housekeeping after adding the info) – Connormah (talk) 21:33, 20 October 2012 (UTC)
So as you can see I'm making a bit of progress on Power - someone at teh Center for Newfoundland Studies at Memorial Unversity will look for an obit tomorrow - he seems to disappear from St. John's City directories in 1991, so unless he moved to an old age home, I think it's most likely he died in 1991. – Connormah (talk) 03:39, 22 October 2012 (UTC)
Strange of them to lose track of an MP and all... haha. Canadian Paul 03:40, 22 October 2012 (UTC)
Oh yes he is one of the tougher ones - as I probably mentioned earlier Power was a bachelor so the possibility of finding a wife or child's obit was out. Also I couldn't find Newfoundland censuses (until the CNS was able to help) with his family and siblings (he actually had 7...). Seems he worked for the Provincial Government for the justice department until retiring in his mid-70s. Also Newfoundland doesn't seem to have an obit index for The Telegram, their newspaper, so that complicates things a bit more. Also I will probably get the QC Death Index so hopefully we can get some of those Quebec MPs as well... – Connormah (talk) 03:50, 22 October 2012 (UTC)
Great stuff. I got food poisoning last week, so I'm just now catching up with everything. Hopefully I'll be of more use this week. Canadian Paul 03:52, 22 October 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. Hope you are feeling better. Oh and also I've e-mailed everything to PARLINFO, hopefully they'll update their site as well! – Connormah (talk) 03:56, 22 October 2012 (UTC)
Got William Thomas Gould Hackett. – Connormah (talk) 04:07, 22 October 2012 (UTC)
Wow, that was fast! Funny thing is, I tried every permutation of his name (William Thomas Gould Hackett, William TG Hackett, WTG Hackett, Bill Hackett) front and back in Google, Google Books and Google News and still managed to miss that... Canadian Paul 04:12, 22 October 2012 (UTC)
Got it from "Hackett, William Thomas Gould" in Google - I had tried those as well as well as checking Ancestry's family tree's with nothing. Doesn't feel right to get it this fast! – Connormah (talk) 04:14, 22 October 2012 (UTC)
Oh and also, the St. Isidore Cemetery Committee should be checking their records for Joseph O'Keefe in the cemetery this week hopefully - we'll see what they can give us. – Connormah (talk) 04:21, 22 October 2012 (UTC)
Hopefully more than his gravestone did! Canadian Paul 04:22, 22 October 2012 (UTC)
Got the bulk of the Quebec politicians (including I think every single one on your list) Also starting to work down the DOD missing Catscan. – Connormah (talk) 22:53, 23 October 2012 (UTC)
One more that I left off my email: Jean Bourcier. He's got a MOD and YOD, so he just needs the day. Canadian Paul 14:47, 24 October 2012 (UTC)
Got what I could. There's an entry for an Oscar Aubuchon that died 9 Oct 1973 but the DOB 2 Jan rather than 1 Jan that we have here. Maybe move to possibly living? Is there evidence of him alive after 1973? Send along any more names you'd like checked.. – Connormah (talk) 21:19, 24 October 2012 (UTC)
Searching around, that's probably the correct one: he's definitely deceased per [14] and I would guess that the granddaughter either made a mistake or meant to type "the 1970s". As for other names, I have tons, but they're all Olympians without Wikipedia pages, so I might just get access to the index myself. One I've been trying to figure out, however, is this guy. According to the rootsweb obit search, there's a Jacques Carbonneau who died c. March 2007 in Brossard, Quebec. Can you check if it's the correct person? Canadian Paul 21:30, 24 October 2012 (UTC)
Also, I have a hunch that this may be incorrect, haha. Canadian Paul 21:32, 24 October 2012 (UTC)
Fixed. Oops..I'll check the other one. Should I go ahead and add Aubuchon's DOD? – Connormah (talk) 22:09, 24 October 2012 (UTC)
I sent the Carbonneau obit to you via e-mail. – Connormah (talk) 22:11, 24 October 2012 (UTC)
Also, I was mistaken, the index does list Aubochon's DOD as 1970, so I added it. – Connormah (talk) 22:15, 24 October 2012 (UTC)
Got the email, thanks! At least I know he was born in 1928, which makes it a bit more conclusive. How much access to newspaper archives do you have? Rootsweb obits has results for this guy (Robert Harry Bernard Christmas), this guy, and this guy (from Ancestry, I know that the dates for the deceased individual are Mar 25, 1919 – July 19, 2007, but I'd need the obit to confirm it), but I can't access any of them. Canadian Paul 22:24, 24 October 2012 (UTC)
It has Quebec obits from 1999-present I think. I'll see for those. – Connormah (talk) 22:27, 24 October 2012 (UTC)
In that case, don't waste your time looking for anyone but Crete... the other two died in Ontario. Canadian Paul 22:28, 24 October 2012 (UTC)
I got a Toronto Star obit for Sklay, aged 90, in 2008? Right person? – Connormah (talk) 22:29, 24 October 2012 (UTC)
No I don't think so from the evidence I have. The Sklar in the obit died in 2007. Canadian Paul 22:33, 24 October 2012 (UTC)
It mentions he was an olympic athlete. Sent to you. – Connormah (talk) 22:35, 24 October 2012 (UTC)
Oops, you're completely correct. Thank you! Canadian Paul 22:35, 24 October 2012 (UTC)
No problem. Also I've found that Victor Forget is most likely deceased, though I cannot find anything concrete to support it. From what I can see, he was born in 6 Oct 1916 and died in 9 March 1986, and married a Rollande Huppe in 1944. This is only going off the basis that the marriage cert. says he was a pharmacist and the parliament website says he was a "medical representative", though it seems to be a likely match. The Canadian Parliamentary Guide does not give any mroe info except an address, I guess the only way of finding out for sure is if a Victor and Rollande Forget lived at the address, but like I said, it's probably a match... – Connormah (talk) 22:43, 24 October 2012 (UTC)
Damn, could checked the Quebec Death ndex for Rene-Antoine Pelletier had I found him....anyways, just a note that if you find any other Alberta MLAs lacking DODs or in possibly living, ping me, I have the leg. library's biographical index with all this info (I've actually helped them with a few). – Connormah (talk) 05:39, 8 November 2012 (UTC)
I have access to the Quebec Death Index until the end of the month (through work) and he's not in there, but that's not surprising since he was an Alberta MP. So he was born in Quebec, but probably never moved back. Canadian Paul 14:47, 8 November 2012 (UTC)
Hm well it was worth a try. I'll keep an eye out for him. On another note, the parliament website has updated their profiles for all of the Quebec/AB/Ont MPs I've recently got, which is good news. – Connormah (talk) 15:00, 8 November 2012 (UTC)
Great stuff! You should just apply to take the job of whoever runs the site, you'd be better at it, haha. Canadian Paul 15:02, 8 November 2012 (UTC)
So it turns out that Wilbert Doneleyko has been deceased for almost 23 years - I've tracked down his DOD per many genealogy forum postings (which verify that he lived in BC and spelled his name as "Doneley") and Ancestry directory records. Time to let the Manitoba Legislative Library know....though I think I probably will have to track down an obit to make them believe me... – Connormah (talk) 07:33, 12 November 2012 (UTC)
Nice find. I had my suspicions that he was deceased, although I didn't think it would have been from that far back! Nice piece of research there. Did you find anything on Jack Broderick? Canadian Paul 17:34, 12 November 2012 (UTC)
Unfortunately nothing yet. Doneleyko's MHS page was also updated today, so that's a good thing. I see the legislative assembly there says William Lucko is still alive too, I wonder where they get their info... – Connormah (talk) 17:41, 12 November 2012 (UTC)
Playing around with search terms I got a bit more of the 1998 article. Sending to you. – Connormah (talk) 22:03, 14 November 2012 (UTC)
Also sent you a bit of a bio from a book. – Connormah (talk) 14:43, 15 November 2012 (UTC)
Well, it says he moved to Brazil in 1979, perhaps the SSA made a mistake? Did you read the thigns I sent? I think 1998 is the correct one, but I can't seem to get the beginning of the article. – Connormah (talk) 20:31, 16 November 2012 (UTC)
Yeah I agree that the article is definitely an obit. May be worth it to buy the article. The age matches up, he would've been 89 in 1998. It says he moved to Brazil in 1979, so maybe Social Security folks recorded his death mistakenly when he moved? And per the other source it seems he was born in 1907. – Connormah (talk) 20:40, 16 November 2012 (UTC)

England and Wales Death Index

Hi - you have recently added the year of death to some footballer articles I have created, for which I thank you. How can I access this information myself? -- Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 05:08, 14 October 2012 (UTC)

Hi, you can search the database here, just click the "Exact Only" button under the birthdate so that you can pin down the right person, otherwise you'll get a lot of irrelevant results. If you're ever doing someone who died in the U.S., the Social Security Death Index is here. Also, regarding Bob Foster (footballer), I'm pretty sure he's deceased, as this report mentions that the person they believed to be the oldest living ex-Wrexham player died in 2011 at the age of 95. Canadian Paul 14:29, 15 October 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for your help. -- Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 04:39, 16 October 2012 (UTC)

Here's a question that you probably won't remember the answer two after six years, but I figured I'd ask anyways. When you created the fencing section for Bohemia at the 1908 Summer Olympics, you added a line for a competitor named František Šourek-Tuček but, in the sources that you used, he's only listed as "F. Tuček". I'm wondering where you got the full name, or if that he was accidentally mixed up with František Soucek the athlete? There's a Wikipedia page using his full name now, but that user created it based off of the entry at Bohemia at the 1908 Summer Olympics and the source used for the article, Sports Reference, still only has F. Tuček. Wondering if you can shed any light on this. Canadian Paul 13:53, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

Unfortunately I don't recall. It's most likely from Wudarski or de Wael if SR doesn't have it. -- Jonel (Speak to me) 13:29, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

Removal of valid material

Hi there. Your attention as an administrator is needed in this article, which has been on Afd for some days now. In the past couple of hours some editors have begun to remove well sourced material off the article. To avoid edit wars, it might be a good idea to fully lock the article and wait for the outcome of the Afd? Thank you. Amsaim (talk) 15:12, 24 October 2012 (UTC)

I'll keep an eye on it, but there haven't been any edits whatsoever in the last 12 hours and the editing warring from before was being done by a handful of users who can be blocked if the problem persists (and judging from their recent edits, they seem to have backed off). I'll add the page to my watchlist, though, and will take action if need be. Canadian Paul 15:19, 24 October 2012 (UTC)
