Hello

[edit]

Sorry, I missed your first question. I'll take a look at that tomorrow. On the other, no I'm not, but you can find more information on who is, and how to contact them, via WP:CHECKUSER. --Dweller (talk) 21:50, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. You seem to have chopped and changed your mind about whether you might like to be an admin one day. Including very recently. Is there a reason for this? Are you now interested in being an admin? How would anyone know that you wouldn't change your mind again? --Dweller (talk) 11:15, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

FP question

[edit]

I am fine with your looking at any pictures in any articles with an eye to possible FPs. Not having an FP, especially one where I took the picture, keeps me humble, but thanks for asking. ;-) Ruhrfisch ><>°° 22:35, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ceranthor, feel free, although I imagine it's too late for the Wairarapa EQ article, sorry not to get back to you earlier, I've been away on a business trip. Mikenorton (talk) 09:35, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I answered your query on my talk page rather than yours, which was pretty dumb! Anyway I clarified on the DYK nomination page and it is now listed for the next update, so thanks for putting it forward. Mikenorton (talk) 17:50, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Valued Pictures announcement

[edit]

Wikipedia announces launch of new Valued pictures project

[edit]

The project goes live for nominations on 1 December 2008 at 0:00 UTC

[edit]

This Wikipedia Valued pictures project sets out to identify and encourage users' efforts in providing valuable images of high encyclopedic value, and to build up a resource for editors from other Wikimedia projects seeking such educational images for use online. The project also provides recognition to contributors who have made an effort to contribute enyclopedic images of difficult subjects which are very hard or nigh on impossible to obtain. The project will run alongside the existing Wikipedia Featured pictures and Picture peer review projects.

Please visit Valued picture candidates to nominate an image, or to help review the nominations. Anyone with an account on Wikipedia is welcome to nominate images, and also to take part in the open review process.

The Wikipedia valued picture project has opened for nominations. Please feel free to nominate an image at WP:VPC today!

Your DYK submission of 1855 Wairarapa earthquake

[edit]

Hello! Your submission of 1855 Wairarapa earthquake at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed. There still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! —Politizer talk/contribs 04:53, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Be careful before unilaterally moving a page to a new title. The title mentions the month because in 1998 there were two earthquakes in Afghanistan. One in February, another in May. See the other article February 4, 1998 Afghanistan earthquake. So 1998 Afghanistan earthquake will be confusing title. --Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 09:08, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No prob. You can join the discussion in Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2008 November 8 where one editor has suggested a disambiguation page which I believe is a good idea. Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 13:29, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure how to, though I hear it's awesome. FYI I nominated the article for GAN. On the short side, but you can't really help the inability of a government to report on something that killed, say, 15,000 people. I was wondering if you could look over Hubert Maga for me - I'm not even close to nominating for GA, but I just want first impressions. ~the editorofthewiki (talk/contribs/editor review)~ 02:09, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I uploaded some pictures and added a cat. Generally I only work with earthquakes that injured/killed people. Maga will be my main focus for a bit. ~the editorofthewiki (talk/contribs/editor review)~ 03:08, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, all of the results were either about different earthquakes or just a repeat of what I already have. Most of them just had a mention of the quake. —Ceran(dream / discover) 02:26, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Now, you don't have to review it, but please don't accuse me of something. According to WP:Canvassing, it is "sending messages to multiple Wikipedians with the intent to inform them about a community discussion. Under certain conditions it is acceptable to notify other editors of ongoing discussions, but messages that are written to influence the outcome rather than to improve the quality of a discussion compromise the consensus building process and may be considered disruptive." I've only swent messages to you since I'm closely acquaintanced with you on the wiki, and I'm certainly not trying to influence the outcome of the discussion. ~the editorofthewiki (talk/contribs/editor review)~ 02:46, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fixing spelling errors

[edit]

FYI it is considered impolite to edit another editor's comments, even to fix spelling errors. Not that this offends me in the least, just not with anyone else. ~the editorofthewiki (talk/contribs/editor review)~ 22:17, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've already asked you, how the heck do you do it? I know, I'm ignorant. :) Not that this has anything to do with this, but are you taking up vandal fighting to become an admin? I mean, there's already a whole lot of them out there. Put bluntly, Nevado needs work. I'm not in any way implying that you do, but do you still consider Wikipedia a MMOPRG that can be won? Adminship is not the next level up, I'd say regular editors like us are. True, I sometimes want those tools to block a disruptive editor or delete a page to make way for a move, but after my RFA I don't think it's worth it. You probably stand better chances, but I do not expect a pass. My quote at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Fritzpoll is quite relevent here. And this is coming from a friend; please don't take this the wrong way. ~the editorofthewiki (talk/contribs/editor review)~ 22:38, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Constructive criticism is actual criticism. :) Seriously though, are you only becoming involved in AIV and huggle for the adminship oppurtunities and artificially high edits? I have noticed this for a while, just not been brave enough to say anything. This may be an unpopular opinion, but I'm going to say it anyway: I think vandal fighting (especially using automated tools) is important, and there should be about 2-3 good fighters, but that should be about it. Whenever I go recent changes patrolling I see practically no vandalism because it was reverted 2 seconds after the act was commited. We do need more content builders, for sure. Everything else is subordinate to that. ~the editorofthewiki (talk/contribs/editor review)~ 23:11, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

[edit]

Thanks for your careful consideration at my successful RfA. "Another awesome candidate!" was generous and appreciated. Please let me know on my talk page if you have any suggestions for me. - Dan Dank55 (send/receive) 17:12, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Can you explain this FAR (for the second time)? There is a red link at WP:FAR, and a redlinked FAR on the article talk page. If you requested that it be deleted, the job was only one-third done. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 03:19, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lazare Ponticelli

[edit]

User:Tony1 has nominated Lazare Ponticelli, an FA I've worked on, for featured article review. Just wondering if you could help save this article and/or offer comments toward its improvements. ~the editorofthewiki (talk/contribs/editor review)~ 16:41, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Imperial Triple Crown jewels

[edit]
Your majesty, it gives me great pleasure to bestow these Imperial triple crown jewels upon Ceranthor for your contributions in the areas of WP:DYK, WP:GA, and WP:FC. Cirt (talk) 00:58, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for contributions to the project, Great work, especially on Image:MtCleveland ISS013-E-24184.jpg - breathtaking. May you wear the crowns well. Cirt (talk) 00:58, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies

[edit]

I apologize, the evil word was not intended at you but at the previous comment (not the user). I didn't even understand what you meant with your NPOV message. I have always tried to be straight and honest in my discussions and behaviour, that is why I reacted with such violence to an accusation which I found malicious and unfair. -- Alvesgaspar (talk) 01:49, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

FAC

[edit]

I noticed an inconsistency in the format of dates in references. Some of them are written as 13 November, 1985, while others are in ISO format (2008-11-12). This should be fixed, I think. Ruslik (talk) 04:45, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AfC news

[edit]

Dear AfC participant,

  1. Msgj and Tnxman307 are organising the AfC challenge! It's a little competition to help improve some of the articles created through AfC and we are hoping that everyone will get involved. For level 1, you just need to bring a stub up to Start-class. Level 2 is improving a Start-class article to C-class. And so on. To get involved or for more information please see the competition page.
  2. Those of you who haven't reviewed an article recently might not have noticed the new process that was implemented this year. Reviewing articles is now more enjoyable than ever :) You might like to give it a try. All articles waiting for review are in Category:Pending Afc requests. (Please read the updated instructions.)
  3. Please consider adding {{AFC status}} to your userpage to keep track of the number of articles waiting for review. At the time of writing we are officially backlogged, so help is needed!
  4. There is currently a proposal to bring the Images for upload process under the umbrella of WikiProject Articles for creation. The rationale is that both processes are designed to allow unregistered users to take part more fully in Wikipedia, and partipants in each process can probably help each other.

If you no longer wish to receive messages from WikiProject Articles for creation, please remove your name from this list. Thank you.

Sure, I'll take a look soon, depending on when the electricity comes back on at home. –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 02:02, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nevado del Ruiz

[edit]

Sorry about that, I meant number 22. Keep up the good work, and if you have time, review Hubert Maga at PR. ~the editorofthewiki (talk/contribs/editor review)~ 22:12, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Happy Holidays...

[edit]

Thanks! I celebrate both Christmas and Hanukkah, and my birthday is amongst the two, so it's a busy time 'round here. Happy holidays, –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 15:18, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hubble Deep Field

[edit]

I don't object or anything, but may I ask why you chose to notify me about the FAR? I can't find any evidence that I've been involved with the article (maybe I missed it? After all, 2005 was a long time ago). While I'm knowledgeable in astronomy, I'm not a galaxies guy. Certainly I do know how to dig up and add references (now that I've decoded what 2(c) is) - so perhaps I can be helpful. I'm also not an FAC regular (my only serious forray there ended fairly unsatisfactorily). Anyways, just thought I'd ask. I'm just curious, is all. Certainly, if referencing is the main problem, I can do that at an FA level, and am willing to help. WilyD 17:23, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, guilty on both counts. I hadn't realised I was a member of the Astronomy Wikiproject. As I say, I am good at referencing, especially in astronomy, so I'll have a look (probably not until tommorow, though). Cheers, WilyD 19:44, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
