Hi Cc, you are clearly a reasonably experienced editor. We are seriously backlogged in Articles for Creation, and I would encourage you to simply create new articles directly, when you are satisfied that they are ready. If, however, you feel that you would like some outside review on a given article, do feel free to continue to submit via AfC. As an experienced registered user you are allowed (even encouraged!) to create your own new articles. You do this, if you don't know, by MOVING the draft from your sub-page or your sandbox to Wikipedia mainspace. Just to the left of the WP search box at the top right of your page, you will see a tab with a small down arrow on it, indicating a drop down menu. That's where you find the move button. Eg: draft a new article either in your sandbox or (better) create a draft subpage in your user area by going to WP:User:Curiocurio/My_New_Draft_Article_title (which doesn't yet exist) and confirming that you want to create a new page. When your draft article is complete, then Move the article (or your Sandbox content) to the Article_Title_page_name in Wikipedia mainspace. Voila, you are done! However, do not cut and paste content, as this separates the article from its history, and that needs to be fixed by an Admin. If you need help at any point, ask at the Teahouse or any Admin. Be BOLD! David_FLXD (Talk) 17:50, 19 December 2012 (UTC

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Geoffrey Rock, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Cache Creek. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Audain vs Michael Audain

[edit]

Hi Curiocurio. I was wondering why you replace the instances of "Michael Audain" in this edit marked "fixed typo"? Does MOS:LASTNAME (After the first use, "Generally speaking, subjects should not otherwise be referred to by their given name;") not apply? Thanks. --- Possibly 15:34, 7 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

PS I could not see any reasons for using his first name eight times, so I have reverted it. --- Possibly 15:43, 7 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry Possibly, I must have inadvertently reverted your changes from Michael Audain to Audain which is perfectly correct. I was merely trying to change a typo on your part for 'ans' instead of 'and'. I didn't realize I changed your whole edit. Curiocurio (talk) 17:37, 7 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for letting me know! I fixed the ans>and and also made it all Audain. --- Possibly 18:04, 7 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Article for Sam Feldman

[edit]

Hi Curiocurio, I work for music executive Sam Feldman of Vancouver, and I'm trying to create a Wikipedia article for him. I see that you have an interest in British Columbia, and that you've successfully created several articles, so I'm hoping that you will take a look at the draft I have posted here. Would you consider moving it to main space?

Thank you, Sarah for SF (talk) 19:25, 25 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the compliment for asking me to review your article. It is good that you have disclosed you are being paid for writing the article, but that means the article will be scrutinized extra carefully. Someone else should really do it even if that means waiting quite a while for someone to get around to it. My impression is that Sam Feldman is notable by Wikipedia standards (I've heard his name in passing), so it would probably be done eventually. If you create the article, there is the risk another editor will put a flag on top saying there is a conflict of interest with a major contributor or paid editing is involved. That never looks good for an article. If you are are still the creator, the article would have to be strictly neutral and non-promotional. Being neutral means that if there is relevant and noteworthy negative information about a person, it should be included and sourced properly (particularly in the case of living persons). This is difficult to do if you are working for the person which is why paid editing is frowned upon. The second point is that the references shouldn't have excerpts, although the references overall are quite a decent job. Other editors should be able to look up the references on their own, even if they are not online and it means a trip to a library somewhere. Good luck with your editing, it looks like you have a knack for it. Curiocurio (talk) 23:19, 25 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks so much for your feedback! I understand that articles should not be created by someone who has a conflict of interest, and that is why I have created only a proposed draft and am not moving it to mainspace on my own. I also understand that the draft will be looked at carefully, but I have done my best to keep things neutral and to stay away from promotional language. If you notice any issues, I'd be more than happy for your input.
Regarding the excerpts in the references, since the publications are not available online, I included the relevant quotes in the references as indicated at Wikipedia:Citing sources, but if you think there is a better way to tackle this, I'm open to suggestions.
Given this, if you feel comfortable, I'd love for you to review the draft again and move it to mainspace if it is ready. Thanks again for your help, Sarah for SF (talk) 20:20, 26 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. I didn't know that about including excerpts, I'll check on that. It won't probably be until Sunday or Monday that I can review the article. One thing I noticed is that the lead section should be expanded at least two or three more sentences. It looks a bit unbalanced the way it is compared to the article length. Curiocurio (talk) 22:44, 26 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, I've started looking at the article. I don't see a problem in eventually moving the article for you as it looks well done. I've added post-nominals after his name. One reference for MTV doesn't seem to support the source and it's not a good source to begin with. A lot of the links look temporary and will soon be subject to link rot. I would archive the links in Wayback Machine which I do for all internet sources when possible as a matter of course. I can archive them for you if you don't know how to do it. If you archive the links then there should also be included the dates you accessed the articles. Curiocurio (talk) 15:47, 27 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks so much for your insights, CurioCurio. As a COI editor, I appreciate the engagement and contribution of the community, and I'd be happy for help with editing the lead and with archiving the links. At that time, if you feel it's ready for main space, it would be great if you could move it there. I look forward to watching the process. Sarah for SF (talk) 16:17, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I'll start archiving the links this week or weekend with the exception of the MTV reference which I'll delete as it's not a good reference (there's nothing to look at). Maybe you can find a substitute reference for The Verve. It's probably best if you expand the lead yourself and I'll comment if necessary. Curiocurio (talk) 16:41, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for all your help! I have expanded the lead in the draft, I hope this is what you had in mind. I was not able to find a reference for The Verve, so you can go ahead and delete that line. I really appreciate your assistance, Sarah for SF (talk) 21:34, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In the lead, I changed recipient to inductee for the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame. You could also say 'has been inducted into". Otherwise the lead looks good. I'll finish archiving sometime by Monday. The advantage to archiving is that when a link goes dead, you can change 'url-status=live" to 'url-status=dead', and then when people click on the link, they will see the archived page. A lot of people won't know, or can't be bothered, to click on the archived link if the main link is dead. I like to check if the links are still good about once a year. After archiving, it will just be a matter of proofreading for typos, I saw one or two. Other editors will correct errors or add/subtract once the page has been moved. I should mention that since Sam Feldman is a member of the Order of British Columbia that is an automatic pass as far as notability goes, so there's no chance the article would ever be deleted. Curiocurio (talk) 22:30, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, I have finished archiving and proofing. Could you do a final review please. I propose a title of 'Sam Feldman (music executive)' since 'Sam Feldman' is already taken, and I see other articles named (music executive). I added his full name to the lead and first line of the text as that appears to be the best practice looking at featured articles. Also, the first line should have his nationality, 'Samuel Leon Feldman is a Canadian music business executive'. That is a bit of a mouthful, so maybe shorten to 'Canadian music executive' as 'business' is redundant for an executive. What do you think? For the first line of text, I was able to replace three sources with one. I also added a picture from Wikimedia Commons and External Links for IMDB, which you can't use as as a source but is acceptable as an external link. You can see the draft categories at the bottom (I will link them just before moving the article as categories shouldn't be linked to drafts). After the article is created, there are about 14 articles where I can add his name or link to the article, e.g. Trooper, Doug and the Slugs, The Order of British Columbia, etc. He already has a good entry on Wikidata which I'll link to. I created a page for him on Wikimedia Commons, see Category:Sam Feldman. Curiocurio (talk) 13:01, 6 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
CurioCurio, I really appreciate your diligence and attention to detail.. Shortening the opening to "Canadian music executive" makes sense. The rest of the edits that you made are helpful and logical, and the parenthesis added to the name of the article are fine as well. From my perspective, this article is ready to do. Thank you for all of your help, I have learned a lot from working with you.Sarah for SF (talk) 20:09, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, I've moved the article to mainspace as Sam Feldman (music executive). I added links in other articles he is already mentioned in plus a few lists. I've corrected the COI tag on the talk page. It was a pleasure working with you, you did a great job. Curiocurio (talk) 20:50, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much, CurioCurio. The page looks great! It has been so nice to work with you - I'm really grateful for all of your help. Best of luck in the future.Sarah for SF (talk) 19:25, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome! Good luck as well! Curiocurio (talk) 20:25, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

BLP - Carl Thoma, art collector

[edit]

Hi Curiocurio, I have posted a draft proposal for Carl Thoma, an art collector and businessman. As you are interested in art history, I would appreciate your looking over the draft and, if you agree that he is notable, moving it to main space. I have a COI and would therefore like an impartial editor's opinion. Thank you! JBarTB (talk) 14:08, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Thank you for considering me, but I'm going to have to decline, as I currently have a backlog of projects. Not long I worked on a similar request for Sam Feldman (music executive), someone I was already aware of locally, but I don't want to get in the habit of working on COI drafts. Sincerely, Curiocurio (talk) 14:27, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
