Warning icon Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to introduce inappropriate pages to Wikipedia, you may be blocked from editing. If you need guidance on how to create appropriate pages, try using the Article Wizard. Almost all of us, when we start editing Wikipedia, know little or nothing about Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, so nobody can be blamed for starting out doing things that are contrary to policies and guidelines that they don't know about. However, continuing to do the same things after being told about the relevant policies and guidelines is a different matter. JBW (talk) 14:57, 23 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@JBW: - I just had a chat with Dino Marc and clarified the difference between an article about the short story, and a review. He's going to try to recreate it in the proper format. Guettarda (talk) 15:17, 25 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Guettarda: OK, and thanks for letting me know. I hope that will work out well, Dino Marc. JBW (talk) 15:21, 25 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Is this a class project? Peer reviews are not really what Wikipedia is for and I'm not sure your new article is any more appropriate than the first version was. @Guettarda @JBW FYI. @Sage (Wiki Ed) @Ian (Wiki Ed) can you provide any guidance on this? Thanks! Star Mississippi 02:56, 26 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Star Mississippi This is a class project, but it's not in the US or Canada, so it's not something that Wiki Education can support. That's why I am offering some help in my capacity as a volunteer, not as that other identity. Guettarda (talk) 03:23, 26 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for clarification. Saw the intro edits with ‎Bright Sparks29 and wasn't sure if this was a blessed project. Star Mississippi 18:58, 26 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Recommendations

[edit]

Hi! I wanted to give you some feedback and some recommendations:

Firstly, on Wikipedia we can only summarize what others have explicitly stated about the work in question. This is one of the biggest differences between Wikipedia and a traditional paper. With papers it's expected and desired for you to create your own connections, theories, and observations, whereas on Wikipedia it's the opposite. This does pose quite a few limitations, but it also limits the chances of getting content that may be incorrect or superfluous. I'm not saying that your writing was wrong - it looked like it would make an excellent research paper - but we've had people add some pretty wild things to Wikipedia in the past and this is meant to curb that.

Secondly, the sources should be about the work in question. Even if the source looks like it would pertain to the short story or author, if the work isn't mentioned in the source we can't use it to back up claims about the topic. Now I'm aware that unfortunately people who are considered "minority" in any way tend to get less coverage than their white peers, so this can make it extremely difficult to write on some topics and impossible on others. Short stories in general tend to get far less coverage, which heightens the difficulty level.

Now what I have as a recommendation is this:

I've created an article for the short story collection as a whole. While I didn't see any sourcing for the specific short story, there were sources for the collection. What I could access was fairly limited as I don't currently have the ability to get into paywalled databases while I'm working from home. Location in general can also impede resource searches, as search engines in the US won't always pull up the same content that you could find if you were searching in say, Europe - not to mention that it will likely only provide English language sources.

I recommend working on the article for the collection and flesh it out. This brochure goes over how to edit a book article - you can also absolutely ask me any questions you may have about this whole process, as this is an area I'm pretty familiar with - books and films are two of my favorite topics to edit on Wikipedia. I also sent you a copy of the short story article in case it's deleted, as that way you can show it to your professor. If it is deleted, please don't re-add it to Wikipedia.

Let me know on my talk page if you have any questions! ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 12:57, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
