Edit summaries[edit]

Information icon Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

I noticed your recent edit to Zimbabwe does not have an edit summary. Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. You can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing → check Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. Thanks! Strawberry4Ever (talk) 23:35, 13 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The article Pär Öberg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Minor politician in small town. Fails WP:POLITICIAN.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. reddogsix (talk) 17:36, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Pär Öberg for deletion[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Pär Öberg is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Pär Öberg until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. reddogsix (talk) 20:32, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

December 2017[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Nordic Resistance Movement. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware that Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Drmies (talk) 22:33, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent editing history at Nordic Resistance Movement shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. National Socialism, etc.[edit]

You do realize the absurdity of changing a link that says “Nazism” to one that says "National Socialism” that then takes you to an article called “Nazism,” don’t you? Carptrash (talk) 00:13, 1 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I am also curious as to how the death penalty being applied to terrorists relates to the United States being terrorist nation. Put another way, who should get the death penalty for this? Carptrash (talk) 07:30, 1 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
First off, the two opening words of that page is National Socialism. Secondly, don't except anyone to explain to you something as trivial as userboxes. Thirdly, take this to the talk page of the article, not my personal page. GaiusoftheJulii (talk) 12:46, 1 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm mentioning this here because it's about the same topic: The German word "Führer" absolutely means "Leader" in English. When you want to say "Guide" in German, you say "Führen" (with an N, not an R). Meanwhile, "Leiter" in German has absolutely no relation to the English word "Leader", instead being a direct transliteration of the English word "Ladder". I have seen it used in some compound words related to command structures, but even then, it never means "leader", but is used to refer to the vertical structure in the same way that "ladder" is often used in English.
I would suggest in the future you always double check any such edits before you make them. Any translation service (such as Babelfish or Google Translate) could have given you a good translation of these words. ᛗᛁᛟᛚᚾᛁᚱPants Tell me all about it. 17:07, 1 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
And under where you saw "Ladder", there's a huge list of words that are directly related to the word "leader". Führen means "to guide", not the noun "guide". GaiusoftheJulii (talk) 23:11, 1 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You are mistaken. "Leiter" and "Ladder" are etymologically related and have the same meaning. The closest thing to "Leader" it may approach in meaning is that it is often used in technical jargon to refer to individual items or features in a collection which we would often call "primary" or "main" in English. The best match I can think of is the (unusual, but still extant) practice of calling the positive wire in a circuit a "lead wire", (pronounced "lede", not "led") which would match well with the German (also uncommon) practice of occasionally referring to the positive wire as a "Leiterdraht". Note that both "lead wire" and "Leiterdraht" have different meanings as well; the English would also mean the short wires which are a component of small electronic devices and the German word refers to an electrically conductive wire in a more general sense. These uses are far more common in each language than the ones which might establish a connection between "Leiter" and "Leader". Other than this, the only similarities would lie in their analogous use as a euphemism for a linear rank structure, similar to a chain of command.
"Führer" is etymologically related to "Father", but has a different (if closely related) meaning. "Führen" is a verb, but it is also idiomatically used as a noun, and has been for quite some time prior to the advent of Nazism. One could interpret "Führer" as meaning a guide (it carries paternal connotations), but it also connotates authority and power; connotations which the English title "guide" lacks, but which are perfectly intact with "Leader". Such an alternate definition is most likely given because "guide" can possibly be used euphemistically in English to refer to leadership, or a leadership role. There may be some edge cases in which "Führer" might best be translated as guide, but I am unable to think of a good example. In any case, the actual usage of both words in the context in which you made the change was definitively incorrect. Hitler was called "Führer" and seen as a leader; "Führer" in all military and paramilitary senses always referred to leaders. "Leiter" in both cases would never have been used, because it would carry dehumanizing and impersonal connotations. ᛗᛁᛟᛚᚾᛁᚱPants Tell me all about it. 04:11, 2 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
While your overall point is correct (I have never seen ""Fuhrer" translated as "guide" in any English-language reliable source), I'm not sure your very last point is correct, given that "Reichsleiter" was a Nazi title. Beyond My Ken (talk) 05:02, 2 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Heh. I'm not a Nazi expert by any means, and that's the first time I've seen any such usage, but apparently I was incorrect and there is some precedent. I still stand by my overall point, though: "Führer" has almost always been held to mean "Leader" and used in that sense (as opposed to the less authoritative "guide"), and "Leiter" is not generally used in that sense, and is etymologically related to (and -absent a clearly contradictory context- always translated as) "Ladder". I suspect there may be some English influences at play with that title, as the pronunciation of the German "Reichsleiter" and the English "Reich Leader" by a native German speaker would be virtually identical. See Standard German phonology. I've heard a few regional accents in which the pronunciation would be identical, but I'll be damned if I can remember where the person speaking that way claimed to be from. ᛗᛁᛟᛚᚾᛁᚱPants Tell me all about it. 05:21, 2 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Statements of Truth[edit]

Hello GaiusoftheJulii,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Statements of Truth for deletion, because it seems to be vandalism or a hoax.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing because it appears that you are not here to build an encyclopedia.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  Doug Weller talk 20:21, 6 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:Nazism in Norway requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Liz Read!
