Proposed deletion of Chad Huffman

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Chad Huffman, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Notability not established per WP:ATHLETE. TillsTalk 15:14, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Please do not remove Articles for deletion notices from articles or remove other people's comments in Articles for deletion pages, as you did with Chad Huffman. Doing so won't stop the discussion from taking place. You are, however, welcome to comment about the proposed deletion on the appropriate page. Thank you. Your created articles

[edit]

Hey. Hope this doesn't come off badly, but I've been looking through your articles, and I'm seeing that a good deal of them are not notable. Minor league players in general are not inherently notable. They'd either have to be close to making the majors (i.e. at AAA for a season or so) or have some pretty good college or minor league accolades (pitcher of the week wouldn't be enough, the player would have to make the a-level all-star team or something along those lines. Just letting you know now, in case more do get deleted in the future and you're left wondering why. Wizardman 16:42, 25 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Greg Burke

[edit]

I have nominated Greg Burke, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Greg Burke. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Wizardman 16:44, 25 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Alternative for minor league player articles

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia! Wikipedia does not accept the notability of minor leauge players. There have been attempts in the past to change this, but all have failed. Don't expect the policy to change anytime soon.

With that in mind, I took the liberty of saving a number of your minor league player articles from deletion by merging and redirecting them to Kansas City Royals minor league players. The pages I worked on will automatically redirect to that player's section in the article.

You can do the same with other articles you have created or would like to create. If you'd like some help, feel free to ask me. Oh, and I also highly reccomend taking a look at the links in the very first message on your talk page (this page). They've got some great information concerning style guidelines, format, and article naming conventions. (For example, if there is already an article at Ed Lucas, a new article about a baseball player of the same name should be created at Ed Lucas (baseball). Again, feel free to ask me any questions. Good luck! -NatureBoyMD (talk) 17:11, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again. I noticed you are still making minor league player pages. I'm worried that you maybe wasting your time if you keep creating them in this manner. I see a bunch of them have already been redirected to the articles about minor league players in each MLB organization. The ones that haven't have a very high probability of being deleted and/or redirected too. I support the inclusion of minor league players in Wikipedia, but stand-alone articles just aren't the way to do it. Let me suggest (again) an alternative. If you want to make an article about a player in the Oakland A's syetem, go to Oakland Athletics minor league players and create a new section about that player. Then you can create a redirect to that section from an article with the player's name. Also, read my comment about naming conventions again. Typically middle initials are not used to disambiguate one person from another on Wikipedia. Please feel free to ask me for any help or guidance you may need. -NatureBoyMD (talk) 15:57, 28 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Assuming that you have complied with the advice above and are creating an article in the right place for the person's notability, will you please start to use proper wiki markup for tables. Speedy deletion of Michael Affronti

[edit]

The article Michael Affronti has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done because the article, which appeared to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, did not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the notability of the subject may be deleted at any time. If you can indicate why the subject is really notable, you are free to re-create the article, making sure to cite any verifiable sources.

Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and for specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for musicians, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. If the subject has not played in a fully professional game, he is ineligible according to WP:ATHLETE.CobaltBlueTony™ talk 14:07, 2 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reply to your comment on my talk page

[edit]

WP:ATHLETE states that minor league players are not automatically notable. There was no presentation of notability other than being a player. If there is a rule change pending, it can only be applied once it is approved by the "Wikibrass". Select your AAA players carefully until then. - CobaltBlueTony™ talk 14:24, 2 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

See Wikipedia:WikiProject_Baseball/Notability_guidelines for more clarity on this. If you are participating or are aware of a specific discussion on this, please link me so that I can read up on it and avoid any more confusion. Thanks! - CobaltBlueTony™ talk 14:42, 2 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A couple of comments

[edit]

I see many, many people have talked to you about the minor league player articles.

Wikipedia operates on a couple of key principles. One is consensus. If a number of people are telling you that there isn't consensus that all minor league players are fully professional, it should be a clue to at least slow down and start talking to people.

Another is Wikipedia:Civility. You certainly aren't making any friends by calling people douchebags or telling people who make a good faith proposal for deletion to get over themselves. You'll get a lot further on Wikipedia if you treat people the way you would like to be treated.--Fabrictramp | talk to me 17:05, 2 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Do not remove speedy deletion tags from articles you created

[edit]

Please do not remove speedy deletion tags from articles you created. If you do not believe the article deserves to be deleted, then please do the following:

  1. Place {{hangon}} on the page. Please do not remove any existing speedy deletion tag(s).
  2. Make your case on the article's talk page.

Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the article. Thank you. - CobaltBlueTony™ talk 19:53, 2 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated Jose Diaz (baseball player), an article that you created, for deletion. Just an explanatory note on this AfD nomination. The article had been requested to be speedily deleted, and I declined that request because I feel the deletion would be controversial. Controversial deletions need to be discussed at AfD, so I moved it there instead. I'm sure you want this kept, so I'd suggest you make a calm, polite, rational argument there for why this player meets the guidelines at WP:N.--Fabrictramp | talk to me 22:14, 2 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please format the player articles you are creating to be more in line with the standard baseball player format. See A. J. Ellis as an example. You should have the info box with the links to the stats... You don't need to include all the minor league stats on the page. Just link to them. The articles will look better. Welcome to Wikipedia. Please do not remove Articles for deletion notices from articles, or remove other people's comments in Articles for deletion debates, as you did with Alfredo Gonzalez (baseball player). Otherwise, it may be difficult to create consensus. If you oppose the deletion of an article, please comment at the respective page instead. Thank you. kelapstick (talk) 21:32, 3 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop. Stubs

[edit]

Stub categories are supposed to be used only by stub templates. Please do not remove the stub template and hardcode the category, as you did with Matt Teague. I have undone that edit and will do so with any others I find. Rklear (talk) 05:24, 4 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Baseball Notability

[edit]

I am requesting that you review Wikipedia:WikiProject Baseball/Notability guidelines. Please cease in creating new articles or adding pages to non-notable minor league players. There has already been much discussion and debate that resulted in this list. I see you have tried to bring it up again on the project page. Most people do not agree with you, and I suggest you take a break, since just about everything you have worked on will be deleted/reverted. Thank you. You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Matt Teague. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Please do not repeatedly revert edits, but use the talk page to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. If necessary, pursue dispute resolution.

Hey

[edit]

Hey, don't let a few editors get you worked up. You aren't doing any harm by creating the articles you are creating, maybe you could work on expanding some to include more sources though to establish the notability of the player a bit more, there are a lot of editors that believe minor league players are not notable. If a minor league player is taken to WP:AFD and is well-sourced it is a lot more likely to be kept because it should pass the WP:GNG notability guidelines.

I'd also like to mention as well not to remove stub-templates unless you expanded the article as this is unhelpful to Wikipedia process. But other than that, don't get discouraged from contributing. Borgarde (talk) 08:33, 4 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Incivility

wikitable syntax

[edit]

please use correct syntax when creating tables - see the revisions I've been making to a number of your articles. if you need help, see help:tables or leave a note on my talk page. thanks. --Ludwigs2 22:35, 4 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted your last change on Paul Estrada, and I'm going to go through your recent history and revert any other pages where you make this same syntactic error. I'm ok with cleaning up your past mistakes, but I have better things to do than clean up after you because you won't learn the correct way to do things now. I have no interest in giving you trouble, man, but don't keep doing the same wrong thing over and over. --Ludwigs2 21:53, 5 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

-Thank you Ludwig, I apologize for the time you've had to take to address my articles. Hopefully you saw that I am using the wikitable formula you showed me, and I thought I was following it to a 't'. This time I'll use the Paul Estrada model for pitchers, and Felix Molina as the model for fielders, with the appropriate edits toward reference material, as illustrated in the edit for Paul Estrada. I hope that meets all criteria. I don't mean to be in violation, but correct coding is hard to decipher. In case there is something else I'm doing wrong, please let me know. Gjr rodriguez (talk) 22:06, 5 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

careful with the models, though. I only fixed the main table, and there's still subsidiary tables that are mucked up. if you want to you a model, pick a page and I'll clean it up completely so that the problems don't keep getting spread to new articles. I'll go check Paul Estrada now, but you should look yourself: If you see this - {| class="wikitable" - followed by this - <tr><td>... - then the table format is mixed up. ask me; I'm happy to show you how to fix it.
it wouldn't be a problem, except you're making a lot of new pages, all with the same errors, and that's just a headache in the making. --Ludwigs2 22:26, 5 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
ok, I've restored your last additions to Paul Estrada and Felix Molina, and fixed the wikitext problem in the 'Awards and honors' sections. just to be clear on the changes I made, look at this diff of the changes I made to Paul Estrada. the left side is your text (with a mix of wikitext and html tables), the right side is my revision (with normal wikitext). try to make sure you're not doing the former. thanks. --Ludwigs2 22:34, 5 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

--Well noted. In fact, in between messages, I had figured out the wikitext for that same table, and sure enough, the formula is exact. And I will be using that from now on. Thank for your help. :D Gjr rodriguez (talk) 22:44, 5 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

no problem. as long as you're taking a bit of care to do things right as you go on, I'm happy. still got a bunch of player pages on my 'to fix' list; don't need any more. --Ludwigs2 22:53, 5 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proper article names

[edit]

Please don't name any more pages like Daryl. Jones, where you use a period after someone's name. Instead, if there is already a page at Daryl Jones, make the article at Daryl Jones (baseball). -NatureBoyMD (talk) 22:11, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Noted. I appreciate the help. Rather than a deletion template. : ). Gjr rodriguez (talk) 22:14, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

One other thing, add a "|" (referred to as a pipe) at the end of Daryl Jones (baseball); that will make it look like this: Daryl Jones. And don't forget to put a space inbetween the player's last name and (baseball). -NatureBoyMD (talk) 02:07, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop

Please stop and look at this Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Baseball#All ballplayers now notable? and become involved in the discussion before creating any more articles on minor league players. You could end up wasting hours of time for no reason if the decision is for these articles to be deleted, and it would because you decided to not become involved and support your ideas and explain why you believe they should be here.--Yankees10 14:01, 8 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop

[edit]

Stop creating articles on minor leaguers, almost all of them will be deleted or merged to the proper parent ppage (either the team roster) or pages like Colorado Rockies minor league players. There has been long-standing consensus on these players, and you been warned plenty of times. Secret account 16:40, 8 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

To confirm the above

[edit]

Three editors have asked you to stop creating articles on minor league players until the discussion on notability requirements has been settled. Whilst I appreciate you are creating these in good faith, if the consensus is that most such articles are non-notable, then you are only wasting your time and those of others who will need to perform the requisite merges and redirects. Therefore, this is a final request for you to cease creating these articles and join in the discussion here. If you cannot do that, then I will have to reluctantly consider blocking your account until the discussion is finished. Black Kite 21:57, 8 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Though ALL minor league stubs don't usually meet WP:notabilty.they ALL meet the WP:Baseball wikiproject criteria..allow me to explain what my goal of this whole ordeal is...I am a baseball stats fan, and I wanted to go to Wikipedia to look up stats on some AA and AAA players, ABSOLUTELY desolate, when it comes to available information. .rather than put in 'Requests', I took it upon myself to construct a table and a routine to creating the stubs. Thanx to helpful additions some supporters, I now use a 'wiki-friendly' table. As well, I reference, external, and stub the pages correctly. I've made good faith efforts to meet criteria, and according to WP:baseball, and the wikiproject:baseball, the minor league stubs are valid and should remain, the word "generally", does not give specifics on team sites.....Now, I'm planning on only creating pages for those in AA and AAA baseball, the highest of competition in the Minor leagues, which is affilated with Major League Baseball. -I'm not creating pages for former MLB players that are now on AAA rosters, they have tasted the big leagues, thats notable enough WITHOUT any help-. Players that are in Class A ball or Rookie Leagues, dont even meet MY criteria of notability, so they will not receive a stub until they've reached Class AA. ....I plan on constantly updating the rosters of ALL leagues, so as to help ticket-holders or casual Wikipedia readers, incidentally, those are also the people I'm creating the stubs for. You've seen my work, you can't say I'm not helping the encyclopedia. Nor am I libeling anyone, or overstepping boundaries that WP:basball hasn't outlined clearly. Thats ALL the criteria I have to meet, if you don't believe that minor leagues are professional, I'm sorry but your DEAD WRONG. If they get paid to play, its professional, at AA and AAA, its high competition. This is my goal, this is my contribution.

Blocked

[edit]
You have been blocked from editing for a period of 48 hours in accordance with Wikipedia's blocking policy for abuse of editing privileges. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make constructive contributions. If you believe this block is unjustified, you may contest the block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. Unfortunately you've decided to apply your own interpretation of WP:N, and have ignored the requests and advice you've been getting. You are perfectly entitled to disagree with established consensus by discussing your concerns with other editors, but simply stating "your DEAD WRONG" and continuing to make the same problematic edits never ends well. When you are unblocked, please take the time to read and understand the advice you've been given. This short block is in the nature of a wake-up call, since you are taking no notice of anything else. If another block becomes necessary when this has expired, it will very likely be indefinite. EyeSerenetalk 11:54, 9 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Modifying AfDs

[edit]

Please do not modify Articles for deletion discussions after they've been closed, as you did here. If you are dissatisfied with the result, you may take it up at Wikipedia:Deletion review. Thanks. - CobaltBlueTony™ talk 12:43, 9 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm part of the new pages patrol and, as such, have come across the article Dan Cortes today. I have also read a sample of the contributions to your talk page and I must say it does not make for pretty reading. However, I'm not here to have a go. In fact, I see no reason why this article could not be a perfectly good one with a little editing. You've provided good information with the references to back it up, which is the most important thing. If you can find some more information on this guy in order to expand the article a little, nobody can claim it does not meet notability criteria. If I can be of assistance in any way, get in touch via my talk page. As an aside, I would urge you to talk, civilly, to some of the editors above, who appear to be acting in good faith, before getting defensive and belligerently creating pages and reverting edits. Once again, anything I can do to help, leave me a message on my talk page. Regards, HJ Mitchell (talk) 23:37, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

We meet again. You haven't replied to my message, but hey, I probably wouldn't reply to me either! I just wondered what was going on with the Chris. Hayes article. I came across it on the new pages patrol again (I spend too much time doing that!), but it's blank. Is it something you were planning to come back to later? You haven't got any messages regarding its deletion so I can't think of any other explanation.
Just for the record, you don;t have to create an article about EVERY minor league baseball player there ever was- why not try one big article with all the significant players in there, or creating one or two at a time, submitting them for peer review and letting people like me offer constructive criticism so you can make it better before creating another one. Saying that, though, I know sweet FA about baseball, but I can help you with the fiddly bits! Please get in touch with me. HJ Mitchell (talk) 18:12, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

--To: HJ Mitchell--- Hello HJ Mitchell. I appreciate you taking a look at the player stubs. Unfortunately, I've tried every which, way, and how of talking to these people, both with authority and compromisingly peaceful. But to no avail, the rules are written in concrete apparently. Actually, someone said the WikiBaseball is more what I'm looking for...but no one reads wikibaseball...they read wikipedia. I've stopped completely creating new stubs b/c when they banned me for 48 hours, my hotmail simultaneously crashed as well. So in order to keep my hotmail, I've given up trying to talk to the "wiki-police", as I have two strikes now. Submitting and peer review would take too much time, I don't think neone would want to look over em. If they want to look em over after I've created them, then by all means, edit away. But thered be too many, so someone is bound to say "There's too many...notability,blah..blah..blah." And they have control of the deletion templates. I'm not even saying I'm gonna do every single minor league player, just AA and above. But that still falls below the "Mendoza" notability line, so to speak. So instead, in order to save my hotmail account, I've given in to their beating war drums, and just surrendered my attempts at making pro,yet minor league baseball more accessible, through the magic of Wikipedia. Proposed deletion of Marc Maddox

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Marc Maddox, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

doesn't seem to satisfy any of [[1]]

Anshuk (talk) 09:05, 17 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the PROD template, Maddox appears to pass the General Notability Guideline therefore he does not have to pass Wikipedia:Notability (sports)#Baseball.--kelapstick (talk) 15:14, 17 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reply

[edit]

I agree with what you say above. I'm not a baseball fan (not my area- I mainly deal with law articles by choice but I'm flexible!), but I do believe in the magic of wikipedia. Maybe you should take heed of FabricTramp's advice and, rather than creating an article for all of them, have larger articles for some of the most notable ones- by club, league or whatever. You could leave redirects at the article for each player. I think what these people are trying to tell you (though it gets lost in translation!) is that not everything merits a wikipedia article. There are certain practices on here and, as long as you abide by them, nobody will have a problem. I'm happy to help you in getting coverage of these players, as long as we can do it in accordance with WP:N and WP:ATHLETE, which might be worth a brief read if you haven't read them already. Like I say, get in touch- I'll watch this page so you can reply here or on my talk page. Regards, HJ Mitchell (talk) 10:50, 17 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

PS- it might be worth putting a polite note on your user page about this- a lot of people on here are happy to help if you ask for it, rather than carrying on regardless. HJ Mitchell (talk) 10:50, 17 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Roster style guidelines

[edit]

Here are a few thing to note about MiLB (and MLB for that matter) roster template styles:

  • Single digit numbers are always right-aligned. That means the non-breaking space code goes to the left of the number.
  • Double dashes (--) are used instead of two non-breaking spaces when no number is available for uniformed personnel (players, managers, hitting & pitching coaches). Trainers, conditioning coaches, etc don't wear uniforms, so two non-breaknig spaces go in the spot for their nubmer.
  • Symbols for DL, reserve, 40-man rosters, etc. are displayed full-size, not with <small></small> tags. -NatureBoyMD (talk) 17:02, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Fernando Rodriguez Jr requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Ridernyc (talk) 01:34, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Jason Fernandez requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. A tag has been placed on Stephen Farris, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

it is a misspelling of Stephen Farris that was deleted at the RfD discussion at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2012 November 26#Minor league baseball players. See also User:Kelapstick/Sandbox.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted.
