Dear Krishna, Brahmin varna is common for both Vishwa brahmins and Arya brahmins. But the first line also gives a different meaning as It shows partiality. Thats why many of them are trying to erase the first line as it hurts them a lot.

We could write as “The Vishwakarma community, also known as the Vishwabrahmin and they are different from Arya Brahmins. They are social group of India.

Your message

[edit]

Thanks for your message. As far as I can see, you are not prevented from editing that page. The reason your edits were reverted was explained above and in the edit summaries - you didn't follow the Wikipedia guidelines. I would advise you to work on less controversial articles until you have some experience. Deb (talk) 07:48, 19 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Important message

[edit]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.  Bishonen | tålk 20:35, 22 October 2020 (UTC).[reply]

Hi Bishonen, Thanks for your reply.

This topic is not related to India, Pakistan and Afghanistan. It is related to a caste/community based out of India. Kindly go through the modified content and let me know which part of it seems controversial.

Thanks again! Krishna 050493 (talk) 10:46, 23 October 2020 (UTC)Krishna 050493 (talk) 15:56, 23 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Vishwakarma/Vishwabrahmin caste

[edit]

Hi. I reverted your move because the few academic sources in the article appear to use the term Vishwakarma (cf. [1]). If you have sources that say otherwise, please use WP:RM. Best wishes. --RegentsPark (comment) 20:38, 22 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi RegentsPark,

Thank you for your response.

I changed the name of the article from "Vishwakarma" to "Vishwabrahmin" as, "Vishwakarma" is the name of God worshipped by "Vishwabrahmin" community.

Also, request you to kindly go through the changes I have made and help me correct wherever possible. I have also included the citations wherever necessary. Thanks for your help. Krishna 050493 (talk) 15:54, 23 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Well, you'll need to find good sources if you want to change the name of the caste. I suggest reading WP:V and WP:RS to get a sense for what sort of sources you need to look for. @Bonadea: is probably better able to advise you. --RegentsPark (comment) 00:35, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi RegentsPark, Thank you very much for your response and advice. I will contact Bonadea to assist/advice me further on this. Krishna 050493 (talk) 11:34, 25 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Bonadea Hope you are well.

I am referred to you by RegentsPark. I am writing to you seeking your guidance and advice on editing the article named - "Viswakarma (caste)".

I tried correcting the name of the article to "Viswabrahmin" as, the name of deity worshipped by Viswabrahmin community is Lord Viswakarma. Though I made citations backing the changes made, I got a revert mentioning to cite appropriate sources.

To prove the righteousness of the modifications, I am also linking here the Wiki page corresponding to Lord Viswakarma here. Right now there are two Wiki pages - one corresponding to god/deity and the other to the community, which are named the same and are redundant. Kindly advise me about how to proceed on this. I would love to give you more details to prove the correctness of the modifications made. Please let me know. Thanks much for your help. Looking forward to a response from you. Thanks again! Krishna 050493 (talk) 11:34, 25 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi RegentsPark, Hope you are well.

I am writing this to explain you the reason I have been trying to change the article on - "Vishwakarma (caste)" for quite some time now.

The existing article about the caste “Vishwabrahmin” on Wikipedia includes a lot of wrong/misinformation and is biased. The article that existed prior to the current version is much accurate and has been modified for some unknown reasons. Link to the previous version of this article on Wikipedia is available on Scribd and I am sharing the link here for your reference. Link: https://www.scribd.com/doc/146778562/Origin-of-Vishwakarmas

My intention is purely to better the page and provide more accurate information about this community on Wikipedia as this is the first visible page/information on Google search and it is incorrect for people to be misguided by the same.

I have tried accessing the current references made to this article but failed to find any of them (Request you to kindly guide me to these sources as I would like to read, learn and understand more). Information I have considered as a basis to modify this article are references published by Vedic schools of India which also includes the articles directly imbibed from Vedic Scripture (Best possible source related to this topic).

I am also attaching one of the books (available online) written and published in 1909 by Mr. Alfred Edward Roberts and Mr. Ratnajinendra Rabel Ratnawira that provides more accurate information on the Vishwabrahmin community and backs the information provided by me. Link here - https://archive.org/details/vishvakarmaandhisdescendents/mode/2up

Few books I have referred offline: • “Vishwabramma Puranam” by V.Kathiresan Achari. • “Vishwakarma Brahmana Vamshagamamu” by Vaddepati Niranjana Shastry. • “Shilpashastra” – This book was written on Shake 1165 more than 700 years back & was published by B.S. Sutar (Igatpuri, Nasik in 1906) • “Vishwabrahmana Gotra Gayathri” by Phanidapu Prabhakara Sharma

Please help me in contributing a small part towards a better Wikipedia. Thank you very much for your time to go through my message. I look forward to a reply and guidance from you. Krishna 050493 (talk) 18:36, 28 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Krishna 050493:. A few thoughts:
  • You cannot use vedic scriptures as a source. You must find reliable secondary (academic) sources that interpret the vedas.
  • You cannot use books or publications from 1909 as a source for caste related articles. The consensus on Wikipedia is that British Raj era sources are unreliable and are not to be used.
  • Any sources you do find must be recent and, preferably, academic. Academic sources will always get preference over non-academic ones so it would be best if you found those. I'm sorry that this may appear to be discouraging, but Wikipedia is a reliably sourced encyclopedia and regardless of any one person's knowledge or expertise in an area, everything must be properly sourced. Do some research, find good sources, then come back to editing the article. --RegentsPark (comment) 00:23, 29 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi RegentsPark, Thank you very much for your advice.

I have also used multiple academic books for my research which can be mentioned as references here. But these books are unfortunately not available online. Can i still use them as references to modify this article?

Your advice on this will be much appreciated. Thanks again! Krishna 050493 (talk) 11:53, 29 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yes you may use offline books. But, be prepared to be challenged. You may need to provide specific page numbers and specific quotes from the books that support your position. And, of course, you may need to explain why the author of the books has expertise in the area (academic affiliations and numerous research publications are helpful for this). --RegentsPark (comment) 14:17, 29 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi RegentsPark,

https://fdocuments.in/document/vishwakarma-castexayimgcomkqgroups174045741414247217namevishwaweb-viewprakash.html Kindly go through the link mentioned above. How can a wikipedia page for same topic can have totally different content? Why is that every change we make is reverted whereas the existing content isn't backed by enough references? Are wiki admins biased?Krishna 050493 (talk) 17:24, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
