(Semi-)protection
[edit]Please read WP:SEMI for details on Wikipedia's semi-protection policy. In particular, note that protection should not be used when vandalism is occuring from one address only, as was happening to Dungeons & Dragons: in that case, there is far less collateral damage if the offending IP address is simply blocked, rather than preventing all anonymous editing to an article. Cheers --Pak21 08:18, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
- What the mix of edits from one IP address normally means is that it is an IP address which is shared between various users, and it's just one of those people sharing the address who is vandalising the site. There's no way to block "by article", but if the vandalism continues, what can be done is to block the address, but allow users to create accounts, which will allow them to edit. Cheers --Pak21 14:58, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Hello NightFalcon90909.
WikiProject Strategy games finished it's first collaboration on Risk (game). We have voted for possible candidates for the next collaboration, and three finalists have been selected:
If possible, please vote here on which of these articles to collaborate on. Thank you.

Robots, Contemporary uses
[edit]Hi NightFalcon. Please take a look at the work I've done so far on Contemporary uses, and let me know what you think. I've tried to add structure and pictures to help lead the reader through. There are also loads of refs and links. Rocketmagnet 21:34, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
- My apologies for not getting back to you sooner on this.
- My thoughts-
- Firstly, the work you did is REALLY good.
- Thanks:) Rocketmagnet 15:04, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
- In the section about dull and dangerous work, the two pictures in the same row, one floating left and one floating right, it winds up looking strange. I think it would be fine if you could move them into different rows. This is pretty minor though.
- OK, I'll move the Roomba down one. Rocketmagnet 15:04, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
- Is a remote control car a robot? What about a remote control car that fires missiles and has a camera? My point is that I never considered the Global Hawk or the Predator robots. Technically I suppose they are, but I don’t know…
- Exactly my point. Some people call them robots, some don't. But they're on the lower end of the spectrum. Rocketmagnet 15:04, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
- Be careful characterizing the Foster-Miller TALON and the Packbot as bomb-disposal robots, since they both have several other versions that do lots of other different things. Also, I think it would be nice to get a picture of at least one of these two in there somewhere.
- OK, I'll update that. There are so many pictures I'd like to have, but I think it would get crowded. I was wondering about starting a gallery on the Wiki Commons. Rocketmagnet 15:04, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
- Great job with all those sources.
- Thanks. So many more to go though. I reckon we could reach 200 by the end. Rocketmagnet 15:04, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
- What exactly did you have in mind for the history section? I like what you have below the Contemporary Uses section.
- N i g h t F a l c o n 9 0 9 0 9' T a l k 13:39, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
- I was thinking that the history section could be more prosey, storytelling. It would be cool to get a really good writer to handle that section. I tried it, but I'm just not that good. Rocketmagnet 15:04, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
- Oh well then don't get me to do it. I can find stuff and look up stuff and do research but I am not all that great of a writer... Isn't there somewhere where you can request stuff? I am sure someone would be perfectly willing to do it if we gave them the stuff. -- N i g h t F a l c o n 9 0 9 0 9' T a l k 18:21, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
Aluminium vs Aluminum
[edit]Please, never alter "Aluminium" to "Aluminum" in Wikipedia articles. Aluminium is not a spelling mistake, it is the IUPAC preferred name and takes precedence in all cases of dispute. The simple fact that you are changing the spelling makes it disputed, and hence immediately renders the change incorrect. Always leave Aluminium as is. Cheers.Ethel Aardvark
- Sorry- I was just mindlessly using a spellchecker. I won't change it anymore. N i g h t F a l c o n 9 0 9 0 9' T a l k 01:01, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
Semi-protection for Robots
[edit]I'd also like to get Semi-protection for the Robots page. It gets vandalised a ton, possibly more than it gets contributed to. Do you know how to get that done? Rocketmagnet 15:34, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
- Well don't make the mistake I made and go protecting it yourself since its admin only... and, uh, you kinda get in trouble. You can request protection at Wikipedia:Requests_for_page_protection. However, honestly as nice as it would be, I am not sure it qualifies. Go ahead and try though.-- N i g h t F a l c o n 9 0 9 0 9' T a l k 18:18, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Collaboration
[edit]OK... so I've began to assess the robotics articles. Please review the article assessment guidelines and help this WikiProject out by helping out with the following:
- Adding Robotics-related articles to the WikiProject
- Assessing robotics articles listed in Category:Robotics articles by quality
- Helping out with giving comments to individual articles after assessment, pointers, comments, etc. (basically, don't just give an article class and move on, let people know what led you to give such a rating when necessary.
We need to get this article assessment drive going first before peer reviews and collaborations programs can be made.

Motto of the day
[edit]Hello, I notice you're using one of the {{motd}} templates, run by Wikipedia:Motto of the day. You may have noticed that some of the mottos recently have been followed by a date from 2006, or on occasion simply "Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia". The reason for this is that Motto of the day is in some very serious need of help. Participation in the project, which has never been especially high, has dropped considerably over this past summer, to the point we have had several days where no motto was scheduled to appear at all. Over the past several weeks, I've been the only editor scheduling mottos at all, but there aren't enough comments on some of these mottos to justify their use. If we do not get some help - and soon - your daily mottos will stop. In order for us to continue updating these templates for you, we need your help.
When you get a chance between your normal editing, could you stop by our nominations page and leave a few comments on some of the mottos there, especially those that do not have any comments yet? This works very simply; you read a motto, decide whether or not you like it, and post your opinion just below the motto. That's it - no experience required, just an idea of what you personally like and what you feel reflects Wikipedia and its community. If you do have past experience with the project, then please close some of the older nominations once they've got a decent consensus going. There are directions on the nominations page on how to do this.
If you have any questions, please let me know, or post on the project's talk page. I'm looking forward to reading your comments on the suggested mottos, and any additional suggestions you'd like to make. Until then, happy editing! Hersfold (t/a/c) 01:53, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Wikiproject Electronics collaboration
[edit]Hi, I am writing to you because you have listed yourself as a member of the Electronics WikiProject. Sadly, this project is pretty dead, but I propose to resuscitate it with a collaboration. The idea is to have a concerted effort on improving one article per month, hopefully to GA or FA status and nominate the very best of them for the front page. I have prepared a page to control this process at Wikipedia:WikiProject Electronics/Collaboration (actually, I mostly shamelessly stole it from Wikipedia:WikiProject Mammals where a collaboration of this sort was succesfully run). There you can make nominations for articles for collaboration or comment on the nominations of others.
If you want to take part you might like to place this template {{WikiProject Electronics Collaboration}}
on your userpage which will give you a link to the current collaboration. If you are no longer interested in Wikiproject Electronics, please remove yourself from the members list, which is now at Wikipedia:WikiProject Electronics/Members

Your 12 Feb revert of Westfield_(town),_New_York
[edit]Please exercise a bit more caution when reverting edits. On 12 Feb, I edited the Westfield_(town),_New_York article to remove a bit of vandalism that was inserted on 24 October, that you failed to remove when you reverted the vandalism that occurred on 26 November - I realized after I made the edit that I wasn't logged in, but wasn't worried about 'getting credit' for my repair. This evening, I noticed that I had a message (to the IP address that I used to make the edit on 12 Feb) - the standard "I've reverted your edit" message. I then looked at the Westfield_(town),_New_York history page and noted that you reverted my edit & identified it as vandalism. Given that my edit summary identified the specific reason for the edit, and the text I removed was clearly cruft, I find it unlikely that you read either prior to reverting the edit. Just because an edit comes from an IP address doesn't mean it's vandalism, even if the last edit by an IP address was. Automated tools have their uses, but if you're not careful you can use them to make destructive edits. I have repaired your error. Regards, CruiserBob (talk) 03:27, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

Disambiguation link fixing one-day contest
[edit]I have decided to put on a mini-contest within the November 2013 monthly disambiguation contest, on Saturday, November 23 (UTC). I will personally give a $20 Amazon.com gift card to the disambiguator who fixes the most links on that server-day (see the project page for details on scoring points). Since we are not geared up to do an automated count for that day, at 00:00, 23 November 2013 (UTC) (which is 7:00 PM on November 22, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the project page leaderboard. I will presume that anyone who is not already listed on the leaderboard has precisely nine edits. At 01:00, 24 November 2013 (UTC) (8:00 PM on November 23, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the leaderboard at that time (the extra hour is to give the board time to update), and I will determine from that who our winner is. I will credit links fixed by turning a WP:DABCONCEPT page into an article, but you'll have to let me know me that you did so. Here's to a fun contest. Note that according to the Daily Disambig, we currently have under 256,000 disambiguation links to be fixed. If everyone in the disambiguation link fixers category were to fix 500 links, we would have them all done - so aim high! Cheers! bd2412 T 02:35, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
Motto of the Day Help Request April 2014

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. New deal for page patrollers
[edit]Hi NightFalcon90909,
In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.
Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.
Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:29, 13 November 2016 (UTC)
The file File:AlternationGeneration2.png has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
unused, low-res, no obvious use
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:02, 9 February 2020 (UTC)
