Archives: 2014–2020. Note: For anyone who may want to contact me: owing to offline commitments, I am not editing Wikipedia as frequently as I used to. Nonetheless, I continue to check my watchlist on a daily basis and I hope to continue editing as and when I have time; sometimes, when offline work is slow, I may be very active, only to slow-down at other times. I endeavour to respond to queries as soon as possible regardless. Cheers, —Noswall59 (talk) 15:08, 22 February 2016 (UTC).

--Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:24, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
Thank you today for Skegness, introduced: "There won't be many British editors here who haven't heard of Skegness. It is one of the country's most popular seaside destinations. As one local historian put it, "Skeggy" is the "summertime Mecca ... for the toiling thousands of Nottingham, Leicester and Derby". The season isn't so rigidly defined these days, but when industry was still the heartbeat of the East Midland's factory towns, in six short weeks each summer Skegness became host to hundreds of thousands of workers seeking cheap fun, knobbly knee contests and sandy beaches."! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:14, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
- Gerda Arendt: thank you very much! —Noswall59 (talk) 16:30, 8 January 2021 (UTC).
This is to let you know that the Skegness article has been scheduled as today's featured article for January 4, 2021. Please check the article needs no amendments. If you're interested in editing the main page text, you're welcome to do so at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/January 4, 2021, but note that a coordinator will trim the lead to around 1000 characters anyway, so you aren't obliged to do so.
For Featured Articles promoted recently, there will be an existing blurb linked from the FAC talk page, which is likely to be transferred to the TFA page by a coordinator at some point.
We suggest that you watchlist Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors from the day before this appears on Main Page. Thanks! Jimfbleak - talk to me? 15:02, 7 December 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for your work on the blurb so far, I make it 1374 characters including spaces at present, are you happy to continue trimming?. Feel free to remove the coming soon template when you are finished. Thanks again Jimfbleak - talk to me? 11:51, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks Jimfbleak, I'll have a look at it soon and see if I can get it down to 1,000 characters. —Noswall59 (talk) 11:58, 8 December 2020 (UTC).

[edit]Hallo, Thank you for creating Charles Johnson (historian). When you create an article like this with a "disambiguated" title, please make sure that the reader can find it from the basic name (ie Charles Johnson), by adding or expanding a hatnote, or adding the article to a disambiguation page. This helps the reader to find your article, and also reduces the chance of a future careless editor creating a duplicate article with a slightly different disambiguator. I've fixed this one. Thanks, and Happy Editing. PamD 16:28, 11 February 2021 (UTC)

Nomination of Bill Thomas (businessperson) for deletion
[edit]The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bill Thomas (businessperson) until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article.
DGG ( talk ) 03:17, 14 April 2021 (UTC)
The article Colin M. Kraay has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Non-notable numismatist.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. SɱαɾƚყPαɳƚʂ22 (Ⓣⓐⓛⓚ) 11:29, 5 May 2021 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of George Moseley (civil servant)
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on George Moseley (civil servant) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. DGG ( talk ) 08:58, 9 October 2021 (UTC)

Thank you today for Robert Roberts (author), introduced: "I first read Robert Roberts's book The Classic Slum some years ago. An unusual and beautifully written mix of autobiography and social history, it struck me then as one of the most evocative, brilliantly drawn accounts of life in the English working classes that I have encountered. Along with his autobiography A Ragged Schooling, it offers a richly textured and at times moving insight into the lives and struggles of people who otherwise would have disappeared into obscurity. Unsurprisingly, both books have been mined by historians for decades and were critically acclaimed on their release; they are often set texts for university courses on modern British history today."! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:03, 7 March 2022 (UTC)

Front page
[edit]Very pleased to see the article on the front page today. I pass on a word of advice given to me by my Wikipedian mentor years ago: ignore the whole thing while it's on the front page and then come back tomorrow after the caravan has moved on, after which you can tidy up undisturbed after the well-meanining ninnies, the POV pushers, and the inevitable trouble makers have turned their attention to the next day's front page. Best wishes, Tim riley talk 19:38, 7 March 2022 (UTC)
- Many thanks, Tim. It is rewarding to see a lesser known figure like Roberts get his day on the front page. I did indeed take your advice and left things well alone (I have also been very busy offline this week). Thankfully, on net, almost nothing has changed, and nothing obviously for the worse. Best wishes, —Noswall59 (talk) 16:34, 11 March 2022 (UTC).
