Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Turks in Germany, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Battle of Buda. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Syrian Turkmen edits

[edit]

Hi,

You had made a lot of edits to the article and I found you had misinterpreted 7 sources by exaggerate their contents. Most of those edits were clearly against WP:NOR. I've edited them now but next time you will be warned and reported to the admin. Ferakp (talk) 00:25, 11 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I hope you are well. I do not think "warnings" are necessary when it seems that you have "misinterpreted" several sources - such as removing the 3.5 million estimate from the info box - which is estimated by Arab, English and Turkish sources. O.celebi (talk) 07:49, 11 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Nonetheless, I will take objective/useful points on board when editing. O.celebi (talk) 08:02, 11 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, the Syrian Turkmen article has scientific reports, resources, publications and news reports from world-class instituitons and broadcasters to local-scale ones and are from 4-5 different languages. Why is there a "no reliable source" template in the article? Berkaysnklf (talk) 09:17, 18 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Berkaysnklf, I have just messaged Ferakp to see if he/she is happy to remove the template now. If there are no objections then feel free to remove the template. Best, O.celebi (talk) 17:14, 18 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Turks in Algeria

[edit]

I had to clarify the situation about the turks in Algeria with 2 or 3 citations I hope you'll respect what every books on the matter say, there's a clear consensus from academic and non academic work. I let some others estimates that seem belivable even if they're not really backed up by any survey or demographic work, and that the website that are quoted doesn't even work (...). The 5% for Oxford group seem ok to me, even if the anatolian-balkanites are arabized today and are considered arabs, same with arab-speaking sub-saharians.

I hope you udnerstand my modification, and i'm ready to discuss if there's a problem.

Hi there, thank you for your message. The problem with your edits is that it is Original Research (see Wikipedia:No original research). In your edits you have written "0% Turkish" but none of your sources actually say "0% Turkish". You need to provide sources which provide information on the Turkish population, not the Arab-Berber population. Because you are making your own conclusions which goes against the rules of Wikipedia. Please not that Wikipedia rules state the following: "This [Original Research] includes any analysis or synthesis of published material that serves to reach or imply a conclusion not stated by the sources. To demonstrate that you are not adding OR, you must be able to cite reliable, published sources that are directly related to the topic of the article, and directly support the material being presented."
Moreover, I am also concerned about how you have treated some of the sources. For example, you have used the Sputnik News source and written "2% (760,000)" in the info box; however, this source actually says "Çeşitli kaynaklara göre, Türklerin Cezayir nüfusundaki oranı yüzde 5 ile yüzde 25 arasında değişiyor." and then it goes on to say "2014 nüfus sayımlarında çıkan 38 milyon kişilik sonuç baz alındığında, 760 bin ile 9,5 milyon arasında bir Türk azınlıktan söz etmek mümkün." (translation: According to various sources, the proportion of Turks in the Algerian population varies between 5 percent and 25 percent...Based on the results of 38 million people in the 2014 census, it is possible to talk about a Turkish minority between 760 thousand and 9.5 million." You did not write in the info box that this source suggests a population of up to 9.5 million (including partial origin). Why not? O.celebi (talk) 12:29, 10 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I removed the "0% turkish" (even if it seem to be a logical deduction to me), I let the cross-datas of the regular/usual ethnic informations about Algeria to make a comparaison with the one info from the turkish author of 1953. Is this better this way?

LuzLuz31 (talk) 08:05, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for taking on Wikipedia's rules into consideration. I have removed the excessive use of citations (see Wikipedia:Citation overkill which states "If a page features citations that are mirror pages of others, or which simply parrot the other sources, they contribute nothing to the article's reliability and are detrimental to its readability.") The 2017 edition of the World Factbook is sufficient. I have also placed the U.S. Department of State report regarding the ethnic composition.
In regards to the Turkish author, this is pretty clear in the "population" section of the article, as well as by looking at the footnote itself. As previously mentioned, Sputnik also suggests 5-25%. O.celebi (talk) 11:13, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
About the ""Algeria's population, [is] a mixture of Arab, Berber, and Turkish in origin" => What about the Algerian jews and the Algerian sub-saharian? They always represented a big part of the Algerian population, I don't understand how the Department of State could forget historical populations like that.. Hi O.celebi, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the autopatrolled right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Syrian Turkmen, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page BBC English (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:16, 11 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A community decision has authorised the use of general sanctions for pages related to the Syrian Civil War and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. Edit warring at Turkish people

[edit]
Stop icon

Your recent editing history shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.

The recent history of Turkish people can be viewed at:

You already seem to have made four reverts on this article on 20 June alone, which breaks the WP:3RR rule. This is a highly visible article, so an edit war there risks being reported. Thank you, EdJohnston (talk) 18:10, 20 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

EdJohnston, I reverted twice. O.celebi (talk) 18:13, 20 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No, EdJohnston is right. As a sign of good faith, would you consider self-reverting? Otherwise I will report this to WP:AN3. Khirurg (talk) 18:14, 20 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I reverted at 17:25, 20 June 2018‎ and then again at 17:29, 20 June 2018‎; if I revert again then it will be 3 reverts. O.celebi (talk) 18:20, 20 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hello O.celebi. I'm prepared to count your large removals of existing content (without any previous talk page discussion or agreement) as part of the pattern of disruptive editing, when considering if I should block your account. But if you want to back away from the edge, there is still time. Any hint that you will defer to consensus (or will help negotiate one) would be welcome. EdJohnston (talk) 18:25, 20 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I am more than happy to talk with you all, as long as it is civilised. If we come to some compromises on the talk page is it ok to remove or add certain things without being blocked. O.celebi (talk) 18:28, 20 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You can avoid a block if you will undo your last change. EdJohnston (talk) 18:40, 20 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I have reverted myself. I want to make clear that I did this not to avoid being blocked (which has never happened to me on Wikipedia) but rather to shown that I truly do seek to work together. Whether other parties truly seek to improve this article objectively will be seen. Kind regards to both of you. O.celebi (talk) 18:56, 20 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. EdJohnston (talk) 19:12, 20 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to participate in study

[edit]

Hello,

I am E. Whittaker, an intern at Wikimedia with the Scoring Team to create a labeled dataset, and potentially a tool, to help editors deal with incivility when they encounter it on talk pages. A full write-up of the study can be found here: m:Research:Civil_Behavior_Interviews. We are currently recruiting editors to be interviewed about their experiences with incivility on talk pages. Would you be interested in being interviewed? I am contacting you because of your involvement in Wikipedia’s Women in Red project. The interviews should take ~1 hour, and will be conducted over BlueJeans (which does allow interviews to be recorded). If, so, please email me at ewhit@umich.edu in order to schedule an interview.
