Information icon Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Payroll. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated (whether as a link in article text, or a citation in an article), and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the page, please discuss it on the associated talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. bonadea contributions talk 13:41, 14 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Bonadea, I am new to Wikipedia Community and still getting used to the rules. So does this mean that if I find information from a website, I shouldn't cite it? Or, should I have added the citation in the "External Links" area? Thank you for any insight you can help with!

Hi again, no, all information needs a reliable source, but many (most) websites are not usable as sources in Wikipedia. It is not always easy to determine, but the link you used as a reference to the info you added about "Net pay" does not appear to be a particularly good source. The page on the external website contains a very minimal definition, and a very large and prominent advert for "premium content", and that's really not helpful for Wikipedia's readers. But as I said above, you can post to the article's talk page, or at the Reliable sources noticeboard, to check with other editors. Please have a look at the guideline here (it's the same one I linked above) ; there's a lot of information there, but hopefully you will find it useful. Got it! Thank you very much for getting back to me, and have a great day.

Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Rachelwriting. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Praxidicae (talk) 16:14, 5 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Rachelwriting: Please re-read the above information. You have neither disclosed nor refuted a need to disclose. - UtherSRG (talk) 15:52, 25 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hey @UtherSRGthank you for letting me know. I see in the article that I need to add {{UserboxCOI}}, but where do I include this? Rachelwriting (talk) 17:58, 25 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
On your user page. - UtherSRG (talk) 10:55, 26 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much--I have added it here. Rachelwriting (talk) 13:00, 26 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Patriot Software (company) moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Patriot Software (company), does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Additionally, this should be reviewed by an unaffiliated editor. The bulk of the sources here are press releases or primary sources. Praxidicae (talk) 18:26, 5 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Praxidicae, thank you for letting me know! Will take a look at the draft and make necessary changes before submitting it for review. (Rachelwriting (talk) 18:41, 5 December 2019 (UTC))[reply]

Hi there, I'm HasteurBot. I just wanted to let you know that Draft:Patriot Software (company), a page you created, has not been edited in 5 months. The Articles for Creation space is not an indefinite storage location for content that is not appropriate for articlespace.

If your submission is not edited soon, it could be nominated for deletion. If you would like to attempt to save it, you will need to improve it.

You may request Userfication of the content if it meets requirements.

Your draft article, Draft:Patriot Software

[edit]

Hello, Rachelwriting. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Patriot Software".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been deleted. Hello, and thank you for the information. Looking at other software company Wikipedia pages, I am seeing similar formats, so I am having trouble finding a good reference point. I will remove the quotes from the review sites to start; are there additional areas that I need to address for this to be accepted? Rachelwriting (talk) 14:37, 27 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
See other poor quality articles exist. Theroadislong (talk) 15:34, 27 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Promoting your company

[edit]

It is VERY clear that you are only here to promote your company. Your changes to the short description (Patriot Software is a leading accounting and payroll software in the U.S.) are entirely inappropriate and ridiculous promotion. Theroadislong (talk) 15:38, 27 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, thank you for letting me know. My intention was to showcase credibility and notability for the company, but I see how this is promotional. I have removed "leading." Thank you again. Rachelwriting (talk) 15:53, 28 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
