Need help

We need more neutral opinions here. I've followed instructions here and at Wikipedia:Feedback request service and to used the user lists there. I've sent a message for neutral input to everyone active recently and available for 10 per month or more on the lists in the Language and linguistics, Media, the arts, and architecture, Society-sports-culture, Unsorted and All-RFCs lists, none of whom have interacted with me before, that I can remember. Have done my best to act in good faith to try to get more neutral opinions. Please help! Thanx! SergeWoodzing (talk) 14:35, 25 April 2016 (UTC)

Shorten's moobs make the election campaign trail!

I read this and immediately thought of you! It's not exactly earwax-level but it's still in that same area of electoral trash trivia! ;) Timeshift (talk) 21:01, 12 May 2016 (UTC)

Thanks, Timeshift! As per your thoughtful suggestion, I have commenced a discussion on Shorten's talk page. In this campaign, parliamentary pairs could be a huge issue. --Pete (talk) 21:43, 12 May 2016 (UTC)
SEXISM! Parliamentary Pairs lol Timeshift (talk) 22:14, 12 May 2016 (UTC)

Your Trumpinion? Dare I ask? A one sentence reply is sufficient :) Timeshift (talk) 23:35, 12 May 2016 (UTC)

By the way, the commonality amongst your trash election trivia fetish is that it always involves a part of the male body... speaks volumes Pete, really does :D Timeshift (talk) 23:41, 12 May 2016 (UTC)

Hey, who pushed this onto me?
File:Reading Times in Tehran.jpg
Speaking of Trumpinions, I was recently in a place where I would have been very interested to hear the opinions of the official media. Although the matter of a nation's head of state is a matter for the citizens of that nation, it is also one of interest to other nations sharing a relationship. I suspect that a few hardliners would be delighted to see Trump get up. Most, less so. Sadly, this particular paper had more interest in the football. I was out on the streets the previous evening, and there was raucous rejoicing over some local team triumphing. The media needs to get its priorities right.
On Trump, I heard an opinion the other day which I think describes the situation aptly. Newspapers and other media aren't really in the business of informing their readership. They want to entertain them, to get the audience coming back for more and in the process paying their bills.
Trump is by far the most entertaining candidate, and that's why he has been in the news since day one. He's been getting enormous free publicity, and that seems to be what wins these things. All I've heard for a while has been the sound of pundits eating their sour grapes, because not one of them thought Trump would make it this far.
None of the Republican candidates have been particularly palatable. Not to me, anyway. I like John McCain, but his star faded. For Trump to be the GOP nominee, well, it's appalling, but I doubt in the actual election he'll do anything much more than attract the votes of middle-aged white men with a keen interest in racism. A big market segment in the US, to be sure, but I'm betting that there are so many other voters who are very anxious about Trump that it will be a drover's dog moment for the Democrats, and a lot of people will queue up just to vote for the Dem candidate, whoever she might be, just to ensure Trump doesn't get the naming rights to the White House. --Pete (talk) 00:08, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
The fact that Trump only goes up in the polls when he always does something that should ruin him makes him potentially very dangerous. History is littered with global examples. I don't think many Americans have got that far yet. Timeshift (talk) 00:27, 13 May 2016 (UTC)

Speaking of images, what do you think of the pearler I spotted and enhanced and now sits as Malcolm Turnbull's main image? Such striking eyes, oh the things they must have seen over the years! It's almost too good! Potentially the pinnacle image of a long wiki career! ;) Timeshift (talk) 23:55, 12 May 2016 (UTC)

I liked this one better. That expression. Love to know what was passing through his mind. "Did I just sit down on someone's meat pie?" perhaps. --Pete (talk) 00:14, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
... why? Even if for nothing else, you can prevent regular article talk requests for a 'smiling' photo? The photo you link to is a good one but not 'infobox appropriate' like the current one clearly is. Timeshift (talk) 00:30, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
His expression is entertaining. Looking at the last poll, the candidates all seem to miss the mark. Given the amount of photographs of these people, you'd think it wouldn't be too hard to come up with a good one. We were very lucky with Abbott and Gillard - two corkers on one night! --Pete (talk) 00:36, 13 May 2016 (UTC)

"DOCTORS are turning prescriptions into an election campaign weapon as they ramp up their opposition to the government’s six year freeze on Medicare rebates. Patients could end up paying between $14 and $38 to see a GP as a result of the freeze announced in last week’s budget and doctors are printing a message about the cuts on every prescription they write. The message: “Danger: You and your family’s health is being targeted” is being printed on the bottom of electronic prescriptions by doctors engaged in the campaign. More than 5.5 million prescriptions are written every week making the printable message a potent campaign weapon."[1] - damn thats gonna be powerful... wonder what % of doctors. Libs bridge-burnt one too many? Eight-week campaign period... never understood his choice. Timeshift (talk) 00:40, 13 May 2016 (UTC)

Trying to be clever with the DD and the new Senate system, which I note the HC has just upheld. Plus he can call a joint sitting on a bill or two if need be. Squeaking it into July keeps the Senate/House cycle in balance. Or something. On the medical thing, well, I dunno. It just demonstrates that the doctors have been steadily lifting their fees. Which of course has the effect of patients paying more. --Pete (talk) 00:47, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
Chicken or the egg. Timeshift (talk) 00:51, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
Bob Day - was never a chance, was always just a profile-building exercise. Timeshift (talk) 00:57, 13 May 2016 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Shorten Moobs.jpeg

Thanks for uploading File:Shorten Moobs.jpeg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 09:40, 13 May 2016 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:Reading Times in Tehran.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Reading Times in Tehran.jpg, which you've attributed to "someone". I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to [email protected], stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to [email protected].

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 09:41, 13 May 2016 (UTC)

Non-free use of File:Near Newport by Will Ashton, 1930.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Near Newport by Will Ashton, 1930.jpg. However, there is a concern that the use of the image on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. Details of this problem, and which specific criteria that the image may not meet, can be obtained by going to the image description page. If you feel that this image does meet those criteria, please place a note on the image description or talk page explaining why. Do not remove the {{di-fails NFCC}} tag itself.

An administrator will review this file within a few days, and having considered the opinions placed on the image page, may delete it in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion or remove the tag entirely. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 12:04, 14 May 2016 (UTC)

You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. DS/A

Hi, Skyring. You got shot down with the 1RR thing. Keep in mind that the Orlando shooting page is still covered by WP:AE as it is a BLP. BLP covers recently dead people and anybody associated with them. There is a notice on the talk page for the Pulse shooting. All BLPs are subject to Discretionary Sanctions. You do have to issue a DS/alert to editors though. PM (Redacted) is causing too much churn on that article. Ping me back. Cheers! {{u|Checkingfax}} {Talk} 01:13, 13 June 2016 (UTC)

Thanks, Checkingfax! I'm not sure I see it as that big of a thing. PM is being a bit of a dick about it, reverting with gay abandon, but I'm not going to follow down that path. --Pete (talk) 02:09, 13 June 2016 (UTC)
Hi, Skyring. The DS/A only has to be laid down once a year and it can be done by any editor.
I repaired two CS1 ref errors and PM reverted one saying he did not see why it was an error to fix. I had already deleted my notepad instance of it and I did not feel like fixing it again so I instructed him on how to do it. He fixed one more too. LOL. I think PM is anal more than dick. Cheers! {{u|Checkingfax}} {Talk} 02:27, 13 June 2016 (UTC)

I have asked User:Materialscientist to look into TTT. If you would like to commment, please do so--RAF910 (talk) 19:19, 11 July 2016 (UTC)

You're the one that's adding the new material, I reverted, we need to discuss. Accusing me of edit warring is beyond belief. You have just crossed the line, I can no longer assume good faith on your part. Fiddlersmouth (talk) 23:11, 11 July 2016 (UTC)

I'm sorry, Fiddlersmouth? I added no new material. I reverted to a stable version - as noted in the edit summary - and three times within a day you've restored the edits of a Single Purpose Account editor whose main purpose seems to be to skew the balance of a longstanding article. --Pete (talk) 23:19, 11 July 2016 (UTC)
You selectively re-added material, including a detailed prospectus, which clearly has no place in the article. You reacted to the original removal by also removing referenced material which criticised the school, which your edit warring continues to remove. Now where are we? Fiddlersmouth (talk) 23:33, 11 July 2016 (UTC)
Perhaps you should check the history. This is the version I restored with this edit, as we may easily see by looking at the diff between. You took it back to 7 July with this edit, and I then took it back one more step to 2 July, before Roberthall7 deleted several paragraphs. That's why I highlighted my edit as "a more neutral version".
I disagree with your assessment that a school curriculum has no place in an article about a school. Perhaps you could explain your position? It seems commonplace in other articles about academic institutions. --Pete (talk) 23:47, 11 July 2016 (UTC)
WHY didn't you summarise as rv to version of 2 July 2016‎ by BD2412bot??? I'm NOT clairvoyant, all this unpleasantness could have been avoided. Fiddlersmouth (talk) 00:01, 12 July 2016 (UTC)
You took it back to a specific version, I assumed you were familiar with the material at that point and would notice that I'd taken it back one step further. Perhaps, as I suggest, you pause and reflect before letting hot temper master your desires? --Pete (talk) 00:07, 12 July 2016 (UTC)

As a matter of sanity, when we revert to an older version, we need to be specific about which version we are heading for. There are a lot of older versions, don't be vague. Fiddlersmouth (talk) 00:23, 12 July 2016 (UTC)

TTT

Have you seen TTT talk page today? He had his TPA blocked as well. By his comments, I can guarantee that his first edit coming off the block will be to file an ANI against us and Thomas.W for meat-puppetry.--RAF910 (talk) 20:46, 19 July 2016 (UTC)

He can try. I regarded his edits as vandalism. Adding tags to a longstanding consensus article casts doubt on our work here. If he had had a real case, then fair enough, but he didn't. His arguments were poorly sourced bunkum. Editors working together against a determined edit-warrior while engaging with him on the talk page is exactly how the system should work. I've lodged many 3RRN notices. Sometimes they get a slap on the wrist, sometimes they get a solid block. Never have I seen a hefty block so richly deserved, and never have I seen anyone blow up in such spectacular fashion.
I never give up hope on an editor, but this guy has a very long way to go.
On a different note, I don't mind editors adding a different voice, looking at things in a different way, questioning the accepted order. That's how we progress. If TTT had actually had something worth studying, then I think he would have gained some support, and we'd be discussing sources, making cases, exploring alternate wordings and you know, doing editor stuff.
But I think it's clear that he wasn't interested in any of this. Not in improving the article, not in working coöperatively, not in following process. We're a diverse group of people, but somehow we've managed to find a way to build a marvel. The system works and must be respected. TTT, I think, either didn't get it, or did get it and just wanted to be disruptive.
I think that when he gets off his block, if he wants to go to ANI, he will foul his own nest in short order. In fact, I'd suggest opening a case there, seeking a community ban, in about twelve days. --Pete (talk) 02:19, 20 July 2016 (UTC)

Blocked

Pete, I've blocked you for 2 weeks for misusing an alternate account to accuse another editor of sockpuppetry, in order to avoid scrutiny. This sockpuppet was confirmed as yours by a Checkuser, so any reviewing admin (if there is an unblock request) should ask a Checkuser before unblocking. While you're blocked, please do not use your talk page to make similar accusations, or talk page access will be removed. If you have private evidence to back up your accusations, you can send it to ArbCom. --Floquenbeam (talk) 13:18, 8 August 2016 (UTC)

Thanks. I think you were a little hasty there, and at least one of your assumptions is plain wrong, but I see from your contributions that you see ArbCom as the way to go. You're right. This thing needs to be resolved. If editors can evade bans with impunity, then there are wider implications and it just makes a mockery of so much that has been built up over years. I need a bit of time to prepare a concise, evidence-based, case for ArbCom. Could you unblock me so I can get started on that, please? I promise to be completely open and not to make accusations against others before laying my evidence before ArbCom. --Pete (talk) 21:35, 8 August 2016 (UTC)

Article talk pages are not for accusations about editor behavior

  • Talk pages are for content discussion only. If you have issues with a WP user. Discuss them on their user page or at the appropriate noticeboard.-- — Keithbob • Talk • 9:27 am, 14 July 2016, Thursday (28 days ago) (UTC−5)
    • This Single Purpose Account concerns itself solely with this particular article. Hard to imagine a more appropriate location for discussion, though of course, I'm open to suggestions as to a better place to discuss the issue?
    • There's also discussions on WP:WEIGHT, appropriateness of sources, and other topics. Hiding discussion on relevant content isn't helpful. --Pete (talk) 8:52 pm, 14 July 2016, Thursday (28 days ago) (UTC−5)

Regarding the above discussion and the thread you created on the talk page called: Continuing Edits by WP:SPA. Please read WP:Talk which says in a nutshell: "Talk pages are for improving the encyclopedia, not for expressing personal opinions on a subject or an editor." The guideline goes on to say: "If you have a disagreement or a problem with someone's behavior, please read Wikipedia:Dispute resolution." WP:DR will provide you with the various venues with which you can state your complaints about an editor's behavior including accusations of bias and conflict of interest such as this: "this editor is here for one article only. This one. Such single-minded attention usually indicates some exterior connection with the subject. Perhaps [editor's name] would like to clarify his position?" Thank you for limiting talk page discussion to issues of article content only. --KeithbobTalk 15:40, 11 August 2016 (UTC)

Thanks. You may be missing the point about single-purpose accounts. Cheers. --Pete (talk) 15:48, 11 August 2016 (UTC)
In other words, I reject your premise in this specific case. I'll agree that in general, editor behaviour is best discussed elsewhere. But here we have an editor who essentially does not concern herself with any other article. I can't see any identifiable conflict of interest. Can you? So WP:COIN is not a valid forum. Clearly, the editor has some internal reason for concerning herself with this one page, and her given reason does not explain her actions. Are you comfortable with an SPA editing without scrutiny or comment? --Pete (talk) 19:24, 12 August 2016 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on MasterClass requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about web content, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. noq (talk) 11:24, 29 August 2016 (UTC)
