If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Bank of Fruitland requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. JbhTalk 13:21, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but you removed a speedy deletion tag from Bank of Fruitland, a page you have created yourself. If you believe the page should not be deleted, you may contest the deletion by clicking on the button that says: Contest this speedy deletion which appears inside the speedy deletion notice. This will allow you to make your case on the article's talk page. Administrators will consider your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. Thank you. Thank you for your recent contributions. Getting started creating new articles on Wikipedia can be tricky, and you might like to try creating a draft version first, which you can then ask for feedback on if necessary, with less risk of deletion. Do make sure you also read help available to you, including Your First Article and the Tutorial. You might also like to try the Article Wizard, which has an option to create a draft version. Thank you. Pishcal 14:10, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This is whats wrong with wikipedia now. It's too quick to dismiss and delete. You spend more energy deleting and turning people off than it would take to help people with their new pages in the first place.--Suchfarth (talk) 14:17, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Bank of Fruitland[edit]

Hello! I'm sorry to say that I deleted your article Bank of Fruitland, because it did not meet Wikipedia's criteria for an article here. However, I realize that you were still working on it and intended to improve it. If you wish, I can restore the article and put it in your private user space, rather than in the main encyclopedia. You can then work on it at your leisure, without the danger of someone deleting it. If you want me to do this, you can just ask here. In the future, when you want to create an article it is best to do it in your own user space or in a draft format, so that it does not get judged immediately, as it does if you create it in the main encyclopedia. --MelanieN (talk) 14:11, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

yeah, why don't you go ahead and do that then.--Suchfarth (talk) 14:12, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Done. You can find it at User:Suchfarth/Bank of Fruitland. I apologize for the scare. A lot of people don't realize that as soon as they start to create an article in the main Wikipedia space, it will be judged as if it is a finished article. To avoid that, use your sandbox (there's a link to it at the top of this page) to work on the article, or title the article as a draft, for example Draft:Bank of Fruitland. Good luck with the article. Be sure to check it against the Wikipedia criteria for an article here, particularly the general notability guideline and the guideline for a business. If you have questions you can ask me. --MelanieN (talk) 14:19, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thats clearly not a very good system, laughable in fact for about 10 reasons. Wouldn't it make a lot more sense to put new articles in a probation or incubation period first to get more people to work on them? Unless wikipedia's goal is no longer to be the best and biggest encyclopedia.--Suchfarth (talk) 14:23, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

That's exactly what user space or draft space is for: to have a place to incubate articles, without them being out there in the main encyclopedia for all the world to consult. Wikipedia has to maintain its reputation as an encyclopedia; it also has to provide a place to incubate (good word) articles until they are ready for the encyclopedia. By the way, would you like me to move Peninsula Bank to your user space also? If someone notices it in its present state, it will almost certainly get nominated for speedy deletion too. --MelanieN (talk) 14:26, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You seem to have missed the point. Thank you for not nominating it for speedy deletion yourself.--Suchfarth (talk) 14:28, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, and Mercantile Peninsula Bank too. You need to understand that these short articles with just one reference will NOT pass Wikipedia's criteria for acceptance as they are. They need to have significant coverage in several independent reliable sources, in order to meet the criteria of WP:CORP. --MelanieN (talk) 14:30, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

yes, move everything please.--Suchfarth (talk) 14:31, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

How do I even find these articles now? so new people are supposed to know to do that right away before having 3 hawks circle around them for the kill. uh huh, right. and once there it defeats the entire purpose of collaboration because I shouldn't be the only one working on it and reviewing it.--Suchfarth (talk)

Done. They are at User:Suchfarth/Mercantile Peninsula Bank and User:Suchfarth/Peninsula Bank. --MelanieN (talk) 14:33, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I do realize that having three brand new pages about banks with only a few references for one hour seriously compromises wikipedia's integrity. I get that part at least.--Suchfarth (talk) 14:39, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I understand your frustration. Wikipedia does a bad job of explaining these things to new users - although if you read some of the suggested links like WP:Your first article it would help. I suggest you visit the WP:Teahouse as suggested above. You will find friendly hosts there who will help you find your way around Wikipedia and develop your articles. A friend of mine, User:Cullen328, is a host there and I will let him know you are coming. How can you find the articles? Well, you now know where they are, and if you put them on your watchlist you can always find them. To put them on your watchlist, click the little star at the top of the page (next to the heart). As for collaboration, these articles are probably not ready for that yet, but see if the Teahouse folks have any suggestions for you. --MelanieN (talk) 14:48, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I just had a thought. If I am reading this correctly, Bank of Fruitland is a precursor to Peninsula Bank, and Peninsula Bank is a precursor to Mercantile Peninsula Bank. Maybe all three of them could be combined into the Mercantile Peninsula Bank article, with the others mentioned in a History section? Just a thought, but it might make for a more substantial and better sourced article than three individual tiny articles. Just a thought. --MelanieN (talk) 14:55, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

That makes sense.--Suchfarth (talk) 15:00, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
