COI?

[edit]

Hello! Thanks for creating James Nash (musician). You seem to be heavily editing only topics related to Nash. do you have a connection to him? I'll leave you some basic information on COI next.--- Possibly (talk) 07:45, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, thanks for the information! I’m a fan of James Nash’s music, and I have met him at some live performances. I have also taken a few 1:1 video lessons with him. Is this a connection I need to disclose ? Thank you! --TGannett (talk) 08:40, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It seems like you just did disclose it. Since you know him, are you receiving any compensation, financial or otherwise, for creating and editing the article?--- Possibly (talk) 08:54, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks. No, I'm not getting paid for working on this article. --TGannett (talk) 09:05, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah but are you receiving any compensation for it? It does not have to be money. I'm asking because you have only editing this topic and your edits have been somewhat promotional of certain brands.--- Possibly (talk) 09:16, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
No, I am not receiving anything from any music companies--I have no professional connection to the brands I referenced. I'm a guitar player myself, so I'm interested in the gear used by my favorite players. When I read about a guitarist, I want to know about their gear. I tried to model this article on other guitarist articles on Wiki. --TGannett (talk) 09:35, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
OK thanks you for your honesty. We get an enormous amount of commercial promotion and COI here. You sound like you will make some great articles.--- Possibly (talk) 09:57, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, TGannett. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. --- Possibly (talk) 07:45, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
