Picoplankton abundance[edit]
You have uploaded to Wikipedia a mysterious map about picoplankton abundance (pictured) as being your "own work". Can you please explain further what the map is about? For example, you have not mentioned the source of the data you must have used in constructing the map. Further, you have constructed numbered contour lines, but you have not mentioned what the contour numbers represent. You have also drawn five precise rectangular areas that you claim are "regions of high abundance". These regions strangely include places such as Sydney, Madagascar, parts of Chile etc. --Epipelagic (talk) 01:19, 24 July 2014 (UTC)
- Sorry about that. According to my teacher from an upper division course at UCLA, this is in fact the picoplankton abundance. I'll make sure to elaborate why this is. The contour lines represent sea-surface nitrate as is said in the bottom left. (Welcome1To1The1Jungle (talk) 01:30, 24 July 2014 (UTC))
- Looks to me like it's just crudely marking up oligotrophic areas as being dominated by picoplankton. There's no real attempt to show picoplankton abundance (which is, in any case, different from dominance). --PLUMBAGO 07:44, 24 July 2014 (UTC)
f-ratio[edit]
Hi there. You've recently added a graph to the f-ratio article, but it's not clear where this is derived from. Could you please supply a formal reference for it? I'm assuming that it's the product of a published formula for estimating the f-ratio. Hi again Welcome1To1The1Jungle. I notice that you've uploaded a lot of oceanographic images in the past 24 hours. Are they all yours? They vary significantly in format, and appear to have been created using multiple pieces of software. Being old and cynical, they look to me like they may have been culled from a lecture. Apologies if this is not the case, but if they have been "borrowed", they're not yours to reproduce here. If they are yours, please consider adding information so that readers know their source (e.g. the scientific paper that supplied the data to plot them), as they're not appropriate for Wikipedia without this information. - Hi Plumbago. Thanks for taking the time to reach out. To answer your question - Yes, I am the owner of these images. They are the product of a collection of assignments I have completed over my last few semesters as a graduate student at UCLA. As soon as I get the chance, I will begin searching for and adding all relevant sources to the uploaded images. As for the image of the picoplankton abundance (as well as several others), I will quickly remove them asap, for they seemingly do not meet the reliability standards of wikipedia.
