Invitation to the African Destubathon
Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:14, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

Help
Greatly appreciate your help on this. If you could also help regularly update the main article achievements list too that would save me a lot of time than if I did it singlehandedly! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:43, 15 October 2016 (UTC)
- @Dr. Blofeld: I'll try my best. I have both the main destubathon page and the entries pages watchlisted so I am in a good position to keep on top of things. Also, thanks to you for your great initiatives such as the destubathon. One thing that might hinder me is trying to win a country of two ;) — Yellow Dingo (talk) 09:50, 15 October 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks. I've noticed a few Australian wikipedians showing an interest in the challenges and this. Aus was one of the first project I approached on proposing a challenge and contest for but I didn't get much support at the time, but I'm guessing more people have seen what I mentioned and seeing the results of all this now. After this Africa one I'd be happy to set one up for Australia/Oceania.♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:54, 15 October 2016 (UTC)
- @Dr. Blofeld: Yeah the Australian Wikipedians' notice board would be the best place to propose anything as it is heavily watched. I think that Oceania (except for aus and NZ) is an area much like Africa, i.e. it needs a lot of content improvement. I have tried to do a bit of work on Oceanian content (1, 2, 3 not including aus stuff) and have noticed many content gaps. Unfortunately there aren't many Wikipedians from Oceania (outside of Aus/NZ), but I guess people in places like Tuvalu or Solomon Islands don't have sufficient internet access, and even if they did, the area is sparsely populated so there wouldn't be many interested in WP anyway. Anyways, I'm sure non-Oceanians would participate, and with prizes and promotion like the African one, a similar event could be successful. Of course it would have to be set up a bit differently due to the large difference in countries between Oceania and Africa. Although you could probably do prizes for each aus state and nz state (if thats what they call them there) as well as for all the small island countries. Also, on the idea of a challenge, maybe a goal of 5000 would be more realistic for the area. Obviously, it would get more entries than the Nordic or Turkish ones, but I doubt it would get as much interest as the UK or African ones. — Yellow Dingo (talk) 10:10, 15 October 2016 (UTC)
- Yes, I think the Australian challenge would be smaller scale and perhaps feeding into a larger one for Oceania. I think it would be similar to UK and Europe, can't imagine lots of Brits wanting to contribute to one for the whole continent, so it would be set up differently, or the Australian one feeding into the wider one independently And yes, each continent and region is different. We'd need active editors on non Aus and NZ topics to make it worthwhile doing an Oceania one, but as you say, it would definitely be a needed one in terms of continent improvement and focus. We'll see how it goes anyway.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:14, 15 October 2016 (UTC)

- @Dr. Blofeld: On a slightly un-related note; I think it would be good to make it clearer that special claims should be added to the sections at the bottom of the entries page, as I see quite a few entries already that would be eligible for a special claim that aren't listed in the special claims section. — Yellow Dingo (talk) 10:18, 15 October 2016 (UTC)
The special claims (except Good Articles) are intended to be claimed at the end of the contest. People collect their articles at the end and then make a claim. I don't mind people gradually building the claims, but it's too much to keep updating as well as the main contest. so I would probably exclude that from the main scoreboard for now.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:23, 15 October 2016 (UTC)
- Ah ok, fair enough. — Yellow Dingo (talk) 10:24, 15 October 2016 (UTC)
- That makes it more exciting of course, people have to work out what they have to do to win that larger prize and play it tactfully. An element of suspense for that!♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:28, 15 October 2016 (UTC)

2012 Tour
I want to get 2012 Tour de France to FA and because you did such a good job on the 2016 GA review I'm hoping you can help me out. I opened a peer review a year ago, but no one answered. - BaldBoris I have had a look through, making these edits: Lead, Teams, Favourtites; Race overview (1); Race overview (2), Doping, Classification leadership, UCI World Tour rankings. If I was you, I would put a request in at WP:GOCER. If you mention you are going for FA, you'll get a quick response by a really, really good copyeditor. — Yellow Dingo (talk) 22:55, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot for going through it all. My eyes just don't seem to pick up on the little ones... I've put it up for FAC already, so a bit late now. I've used GOCE before and I think it will cause more problems now than it's worth. It needs some one who's knowledgeable in road cycling really. I think your edits will be enough? BaldBoris 23:06, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) BaldBoris Good luck! It's a really good article and, IMO, it should have a good chance of passing FAC. — Yellow Dingo (talk) 23:09, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
- Yea, it should do. I can't remember what put me off doing it last year. Let me know if there's anything you need a hand with. BaldBoris 23:45, 19 October 2016 (UTC)

Hi, I've moved the leaderboard to the subpage. Can you maintain it and watch closely over that table for number of countries held, there'll be some drawn so you'll need to scan the list and spot names which have not only hold a few but draw a few as well they all count. Oceania
Reluctant to propose anything yet, as I know the Pacific Islands are less likely to have support, but if interested perhaps ask around and see if there is interest in perhaps a 1000/5000 Challenge for Australia feeding into a Wikipedia:WikiProject Oceania/The 10,000 Challenge or just a general Oceania one. Show them the existing challenges and contests and see if they'd like the same. If there are enough editors who would be interested in working on the islands too we could start it. I think though Australia would need its own challenge and contest series perhaps feeding into a general Oceania one. Certainly achievable.♦ Dr. Blofeld 07:23, 23 October 2016 (UTC)
- It's probably good to hold of for a bit. Maybe something could start in the Australian summer, where people are more likely to have time and motivation (Jan - March). — Yellow Dingo (talk) 11:07, 23 October 2016 (UTC)

Hey what tool do you use for word count? I'm working on the Corruption in Angola page and I know I'm close to meeting the 5x number. New page reviewer granted
Hello Yellow Dingo. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers
" user group, allowing you to review new pages and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or in some cases, tag them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is a vital function for policing the quality of the encylopedia, if you have not already done so, you must read the new tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the various deletion criteria.
- Be nice to new users - they are often not aware of doing anything wrong.
- You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted - be formal and polite in your approach to them too, even if they are not.
- Don't review a page if you are not sure what to do. Just leave it for another reviewer.
- Remember that quality is quintessential to good patrolling. Take your time to patrol each article, there is no rush. Use the message feature and offer basic advice.
The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In case of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, the right can be revoked at any time by an administrator. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:06, 1 November 2016 (UTC)
