No source on this file, but the greater issue is that it appears to have an improper license tag. It is tagged PD-USGOV-MILITARY. The problem is that he is sitting in front of a Maryland State Flag wearing a Maryland National Guard uniform. Since I am not sure if the State of Maryland freely licenses images like this, I figured the safest and most prudent move is to take this to Files for Discussion. This is a possibly unfree image since there has been a version of this image at File:CasinoExterior585.jpg for over nine years has a copyrighted image due to its unknown first publication even though it was taken some time between 1893 and 1896 (see Wikipedia:Non-free content review/Archive 31#File:CasinoExterior585.jpg.) Given that time frame it is impossible for the uploader to be the author of the image as claimed and it should be deleted for having an incorrect license and there already being a smaller sized but equal quality image of the same file type on Wikipedia. File:Michael B Jordan as Erik Killmonger in Black Panther.png (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Richiekim (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

I prodded this for deletion, but it was deprodded so I am bringing up for discussion here. There's no real need for a non-free screenshot in Erik Killmonger#Film. The image itself is not specifically the subject of any sourced crtical commentary within the article, etc. or other content other than mentioning the actor/character by name so the context required by WP:NFCC#8 is not currently being provided. If there was sourced content about the actor's appearance in character, not just the fact that he played the role, in the relevant section, then perhaps NFCC#8 could be satisfied. Right now, however, non-free use seems primarily WP:DECORATIVE which is not really something that is allowed by the article. What "specific point in the article" is being illustrated as clainmed by the rationale because a non-free image is certainly not needed for the reader to understand that Michael B. Jordan appeared in the movie as "Killmonger". -- Marchjuly (talk) 09:37, 18 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete per WP:NFCC#8. The file description page says this image's purpose is "To illustrate a specific point in the article." The content in the article is: (a) "Erik Killmonger appears in Black Panther, portrayed by Michael B. Jordan." This is a factual statement handily understood and verifiable with the two accompanying citations. (b) "This version is an American black-ops soldier named Erik Stevens who earned the nickname 'Killmonger'." Also cited to sources, this information doesn't need any copyrighted media to understand it. (c) "Born N'Jadaka, he is the son of N'Jobu, brother of late Wakandan ruler T'Chaka." Even uncited, this plainly doesn't need any media—copyrighted or not—to understand it. — fourthords | =Λ= | 16:19, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Unfree image with inadequate rationale. Used without commentary in a gallery at Mondo (American company)#Image gallery. Fails WP:NFCC. Sandstein 22:09, 18 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

As explained at Talk:Mondo (American company)#Image galleries and non-free images, an image gallery format for non-free images is problematic per WP:NFG. I can only see keeping this if sourced critical commentary discussing this particular image and its relevance to the company is added to the article which provides the context required by WP:NFCC#8. Right now, the image lacks the non-free use rationale required for the company article required by WP:NFCC#10c; so, the file could be removed per WP:NFCCE. Simply adding a boilerplate rationale, howeever, is not sufficient per WP:JUSTONE. I also don't think that simply copying-and-pasting content from the artist's article to the company's article would resolve the NFCC#8 issue because it should be the connection between image and company, not image and artist, which is the subject of critical commentary for the company's article.
As for the use in the artist's article, this seems to be acceptable (at least to me) as an example of the artists work and helps improve the reader's understanding of the article content about the poster. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:16, 19 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
