The Lucca Madonna is a 1437 oil painting of the Madonna and Child by the Early Netherlandish master Jan van Eyck. It shows Mary seated on a wooden throne crowned by a canopy, with four small lion statues made of brass. This is a reference to the throne of Solomon which had twelve lions on the sides and steps. She is breastfeeding the infant Christ. The painting is in the Städel Museum in Frankfurt, Germany. Painting: Jan van Eyck
