- Lots of strange things here. Fair use rationale but a statement that it is PD in Iran. Dated 1993 on the image which looks too recent. Description says that it shows a 1371 image of someone who was born approximately 300 years later. Not copyrighted in the United States since it is Iranian. If free in Iran, move to Commons. If unfree in Iran, delete since it is orphaned. Stefan2 (talk) 01:01, 27 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Note: This image is currently tagged as non-free. If there is a dispute with the rationale, please tag the image with {{dfu}} or list it at WP:Non-free content review. AnomieBOT⚡ 17:11, 27 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

- Is the photo really PD-USGov? The SIRIS page where it comes from states "© 2011 Smithsonian Institution All rights reserved." at the bottom of the page. Stefan2 (talk) 01:05, 27 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- It's a federal work (I work at the Smithsonian, actually). The photograph is not under copyright. The McMillan Fountain was created pre-1923, and the photograph was taken and is owned by the Smithsonian. It is public domain, I assure you! SarahStierch (talk) 01:09, 27 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- We also have a ton of images from these collections on Commons. I spaced it and uploaded it on Wikipedia by accident. SarahStierch (talk) 01:10, 27 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- I see. And are you sure that the photo was taken by a Smithsonian employee during official duties? Smithsonian Institution#Copyright restrictions suggests that some of the institution's images are copyrighted due to them being made by people who aren't employees of the institution. --Stefan2 (talk) 01:19, 27 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- It was a program developed by the federal government/Smithsonian which had people photographing works on behalf of them and those people gave up their rights to those photographs upon releasing them to the program. Therefore they are public domain. SarahStierch (talk) 04:52, 28 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

- If non-free, I think that the image should go. But based on the above discussion, it seems that the image might be free, so the addition of a non-free tag might be wrong. --Stefan2 (talk) 23:54, 27 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- on what basis do you say it should go? it is in the infobox of the article about the 3D work of art. have you prejudged the conclusion? if free migrate to commons, if non-free keep in strict accordance with wp:nfcc. Slowking4⇔ †@1₭ 00:19, 28 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- The sculpture is in the public domain. The only question is about the photo. If the photo isn't in the public domain, it is replaceable by a free photo. --Stefan2 (talk) 13:56, 28 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

- The screenshot is by Brad Lassey in a blog post at http://blog.mozilla.com/blassey/2008/10/10/windows-mobile-progress-update/ though the entire blog moved and the image seems to have vanished. Seeing as Microsoft decided to not allow native applications on its phones Mozilla abandoned development for Windows Mobile, so even though development continued for Fennec on Maemo till version 6 and continues on Android, this is probably the best score it got on Windows Mobile (until they altered the Acid3 test removing the SVG font tests which would have changed this to 91/100). It's just a historical artefact now and I have no desire to pursue Brad to resolve the dispute, and no objection to it being deleted. Mardeg (talk) 06:30, 28 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

- File:L.A. Guns 07.jpg (delete | talk | history | logs).
- this was originally tagged as deletion for lacking a source, but i removed that tag and am bringing it here. i think this image is most likely a free, self-created image but would like some more input. it was tagged as self-made, which i think is an assertion of a source, is very high resolution (normally you would not find such an image on the internet), has metadata, and does not appear anywhere else on the internet at least according to google images. so my vote is free and keep, but i'd like more input. the user uploaded one other somewhat smaller image of the same band that lacks metadata but does not look particularly suspiciosu in terms of copyvio to me. another deleted image is smaller still. the deleting admin said coypvio in the deletion summary but it looks like it actually was a no-source situation instead of a copyvio situation judging by the deletd page info. - I drew the SVG file; it is mostly a combination of the Japanese flag and the FIAV flag, which has been around since the 1960's. I am also a member of the organization, so I had an OK to draw the flag if there was a concern (or can obtain such permission easily). However, I noticed that it was not used anywhere so I made it easier for both of us to just go ahead and deleted it under G7 (Author requested deletion).
