The result of the discussion was wrong forum. In the future, please use WP:RFPP. In this instance, it looks like the request has been made, so I'm closing this now. (non-admin closure) -- Tavix (talk) 23:14, 27 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

someone please create a redirect from Laurence Scott to Laurence Henry Scott Joeykai (talk) 21:33, 27 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You should be a able to create it yourself. RFD is used when someone is suggesting deleting or a redirect or discussing a potentially controversial change of what something should redirect to.--67.68.23.129 (talk) 22:34, 27 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You're right about the purpose of RFD, but he can't make it because the title's been protected from creation for years. A discussion was made by Peter James over at the correct venue, which is WP:RFP. Discuss-Dubious (t/c) 23:06, 27 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not here to defend the group, but I can't find any RS that use this name(a pejorative name for the group), much less in the context in which it is used, so these redirects might not be useful. Propose deletion until we can. Discuss-Dubious (t/c) 18:34, 27 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Propose retargeting to Chris Brown since it is the primary topic. sst✈discuss 15:59, 27 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Pinging Hahc21 since they were the editor who retargeted the redirect to the disambiguation page. Steel1943 (talk) 17:16, 28 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong retarget per nom. There's no indication of anyone else by this name. I went through all of the other articles on the dab for the discussion below and found there was only one other entry with the middle initial M, and that was for Mark. I'm not sure how likely this is a search term, but my confidence that someone using it is looking for Chris Brown is approaching 100%. --BDD (talk) 17:58, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. There's Chris Brown (cricketer, born 1973) (Christopher Mark). Tough call for me since this doesn't seem like a very likely search term for either. It should probably go wherever "Christopher Brown" ends up going. --BDD (talk) 17:55, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Propose retargeting to Chris Brown as {{R from unnecessary disambiguation}} sst✈discuss 15:55, 27 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

But Steel1943, look at all the incoming links. None from mainspace, sure, but I think that demonstrates that since this was a former title of the article, there could be a lot of links on other sites. Even if the aforementioned Canadian didn't exist, an article on, say, a Malian singer by this name would have to be at "Chris Brown (Malian singer)". This is precisely what {{R from unnecessary disambiguation}} is for. Ignoring external links for a moment, a reader typing in this phrase as a search term might be looking for something else, as you indicated, or they might logically conclude that "Chris Brown" is a very common name and try adding a qualifier to make sure they get what they're looking for. Again, this is why we have redirects from unnecessary disambiguation in the first place. --BDD (talk) 17:51, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough, BDD, though my opinion differs in the matter. For one, I don't believe that Wikipedia should cater to outdated external links in cases like this, considering that the link hasn't been broken, but rather requires one extra step to get to the intended target (clicking on Chris Brown from the disambiguation page.) But mainly, I just don't believe that any redirect designated a WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT should have a disambiguator as part of its title due to possibly being misleading. Granted, I know there are cases that go against my belief (ex. Thriller (album)), but I don't agree with those either. Also, in the case of the nominated redirect, I don't believe that {{R from unnecessary disambiguation}} would be inappropriate even if this redirect targeted Chris Brown since the redirect with the disambiguator is a match for a disambiguator of subjects of other articles. Steel1943 (talk) 18:06, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Ugh. "Thriller (album)" is an abomination and needs to be stopped. That's kind of the opposite problem, though, and it sounds like we'll have to agree to disagree here. --BDD (talk) 18:18, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@BDD: The best example I could find that relates to this discussion would probably be The Eagles. It turns out that WP:PDAB is a bit lacking on explaining the precedence for the retarget option you are supporting in this discussion. The concern about redirecting redirects with ambiguous disambiguators to titles with more precise disambiguators as a WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT was previously discussed at Wikipedia talk:Disambiguation, but it doesn't seem that consensus was ever formed. Steel1943 (talk) 18:31, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@BDD: I was just looking at the discussion I linked above, and seemed to have found a better example that goes in line with redirecting the nominated redirect to Chris Brown: Michael Jackson (singer) (though I still disagree with this one as well.) Steel1943 (talk) 18:37, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think it's an accident that you see redirects like this one or that one, but not ones like, say, Barack Obama (politician) or Dick Butkus (American football). A reader doesn't have to be around very long to learn that we often disambiguate titles. They might well expect even famous figures to have them for common names—I went to school with a Chris Brown, for example—but not more unique ones. This past November, this redirect had 275 views, and the Michael Jackson one had 401. There probably isn't a way to confirm exactly what readers were looking for there, however. --BDD (talk) 16:13, 4 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The redirect implies that ASAP Rocky has an upcoming studio album. However, now that At. Long. Last. ASAP has been released, that is no longer true. Delete as misleading. -- Tavix (talk) 08:02, 27 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I can't imagine what this string of letters has to do with the sandbox, unless it was used to test something. Absent a good retargeting suggestion, I think it should be deleted as nonsense--possibly per WP:G2. -- Tavix (talk) 07:30, 27 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This is an old joke from Last Week Tonight, where John Oliver pointed out that Dabo Swinney is an anagram of "soybean wind" so he could say that Swinney "seems about as pleasant as an edamame fart." As that can be taken offensively, I think these redirects should be deleted per WP:R#D3. -- Tavix (talk) 05:15, 27 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Delete - these were created as cross-namespace redirects to Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism but were retargeted to an article that doesn't mention these. They may have been intended with the project namespace prefix but I can see nothing similar there and this isn't a common name for AIV or something that clearly refers to it. The closest I can find in project namespace are the WP:ALERTS shortcut to Wikipedia:Article alerts, and Wikipedia:Vandalism (Current alerts) which redirects to the historical page Wikipedia:Requests for investigation).
