- Canadian Spelling Bee → Canspell National Spelling Bee (talk · links · history · stats) [ Closure: keep/retarget/delete ]
Current redirect target is a competition held from 2005 to 2012. Spelling Bee of Canada is being held since 1987, and CBC can be found using "Canadian spelling bee" to refer to the latter event here. This title should redirect to Spelling Bee of Canada instead of Canspell National Spelling Bee, with distinguish and redirect-distinguish templates in the articles fixed. I am opening this up for discussion instead of making the edits right away because maybe there was a good reason for doing it this way. Merko (talk) 18:09, 19 May 2023 (UTC)
- Retarget to Spelling bee#Canada – in the absence of a competition actually named "Canadian Spelling Bee", it's probably best to redirect to a section discussing national spelling bees in Canada, without endorsing one. I would also be OK with reusing as a new disambiguation page, and would ultimately not object if the consensus was to retarget to the SBoC article.
- As the creator of the redirect in question, the main reasons I can think of for targeting the Canspell bee at the time was (1) the Spelling Bee of Canada only operated in Ontario in those days (despite its longer history), whereas Canspell, with its national chain backing, actually had competitors from across Canada; and (2) my anecdotal recollection at the time was that there were regular mentions in other media referring to Canspell as the "Canadian Spelling Bee", vs. little to no publicity for the SBoC. — stickguy (:^›)— || talk || 18:25, 19 May 2023 (UTC)

No longer mentioned in the target. Could potentially be redirected somewhere else though. Pizzaplayer219TalkContribs 16:38, 19 May 2023 (UTC)
- Comment: So Majuu was the original name for the article Demon Beast (Kirby series) that appear to have been sent to AfD with a result to merge a number of articles into Demon Beast (Kirby series). It was then "merged" months later into List of monsters in Kirby: Right Back at Ya!. (Or rather, someone created the latter as a copy and then the former was redirected to it.) Eventually, it got redirected to Kirby: Right Back at Ya! Minor Characters where it seems that the content was not merged to. This looks like a history nightmare, but it seems like it might be okay to delete. The word Majuu comes up on 26 articles, while Majū comes up on 85. (5 articles appear to use both.) --Super Goku V (talk) 04:15, 20 May 2023 (UTC)

- Delete per Super Goku V. Maju is potentially a disambiguation, Majuu would group along with that, and if Kirby is to be one of those entries, it needs a mention per MOS:DABMENTION AngusW🐶🐶F (bark • sniff) 14:56, 21 May 2023 (UTC)
- Delete I made Maju into a disambiguation page, but nothing called Majuu seems to be worth a WP:DABMENTION there. "Majuu" is barely even a character name; it's a generic Japanese dictionary word 魔獣 "magical beasts", "demon beasts", etc. 59.149.117.119 (talk) 00:10, 22 May 2023 (UTC)

- Jose Alberto Rivera → Houston Astros minor league players#José Alberto Rivera (talk · links · history · stats) [ Closure: keep/retarget/delete ]
delete per WP:XY; should have redirected to José Alberto Rivera which was recently deleted Joeykai (talk) 16:25, 19 May 2023 (UTC)
- A Wikipedia fork records that the deleted José Alberto Rivera article was about a baseball pitcher who worked under Houston Astros, exceedingly likely to be the same person. Even otherwise, if there are no other targets on Wikipedia, then it wouldn't be unambiguous. This redirect seems to have no relation whatsoever to the type mentioned in WP:XY, and even then it doesn't advocate for deletion outright.
- That being said, the target is no longer mentioned on the article due to no longer being recruited by the team. The name is currently mentioned on Rule 5 draft results, and Pegasus World Cup Filly and Mare Turf Invitational contains a horse racer with the same name, who is absolutely not the same person as the baseball pitcher; neither seem like good targets. Randi Moth TalkContribs 19:50, 19 May 2023 (UTC)
- to clarify, I'm suggesting the redirect Jose Alberto Rivera should be deleted as there is not clear option to redirect to per WP:XY Joeykai (talk) 16:09, 20 May 2023 (UTC)
- Delete - I'm not certain I see how WP:XY applies here, but in any case this person is no-longer (rightly or wrongly) discussed at the target or anywhere else I can find (with the above two being what I would say are passing mentions, and as pointed out not even the same person). So unless mention can be re-added this should be deleted. This would also allow for uninhibited search. A7V2 (talk) 02:27, 23 May 2023 (UTC)

- Keep: Plausible search term. The fact that the party is not active across the whole of Italy is not a reason for deletion. en.wiki does not have any other articles on Italian political organisations under that name that it might be confused with, and redirects from less specific to more specific names are permitted: we even have {{R from less specific name}} to categorise them! Improbable search term, searching "the yud" in Google does not turn up references to Yudkowsky. ThadeusOfNazereth(he/him)Talk to Me! 22:18, 1 May 2023 (UTC)
KeepRetarget to Yud - I actually think this is a pretty plausible search term, as this appellation is what he gets referred to on internet forums, chat rooms, etc. (particularly amongst his critics but I believe his fans use the term too). Now, I'd say the redirect isn't really needed, because everyone who uses "The Yud" knows who it refers to, except there's a good reason to abbreviate his name: for many people, Yudkowsky is pretty hard to spell. So even those who know him might prefer to type "The Yud" to find his article rather than spell out the name. Note that redirects don't need the kind of reliable sourcing that information which goes into articles need, redirects just need to be unambiguous and useful. I think this redirect meets both criteria. Fieari (talk) 05:09, 2 May 2023 (UTC)- Comment it could retarget to Yud, and Yudkowsky could be indicated there -- 64.229.90.172 (talk) 06:26, 3 May 2023 (UTC)

- Are there reliable sources confirming that this is a nickname for Yudkowsky? If so, retarget to Yud per WP:CHEAP, mention the nickname at Eliezer Yudkowsky, and add Yudkowsky to the DAB page to aid navigation. Perhaps an unlikely search term but not an impossible one, and assuming the nickname is real, it does no harm to list Yudkowsky at the DAB page. —Mx. - Comment: "The Yud" certainly is a nickname for Yudkowsky and examples of use aren't hard to find, but it's used virtually exclusively on internet forums/social media not in reliable sources. Reliable sources tend to use his full name. As noted by Fieari, redirects don't have to follow only reliable sources to be helpful, however, I don't know if the same is true for additions to disambiguation pages. Regarding ambiguity, "the Yud" is not unambiguous; searching
"the+Yud"
without any reference to Yudkowsky brings up a number of other results, particularly references to Yodh, which is alternatively transcribed as "Yud", in relation to Hebrew and qabbalah. – Scyrme (talk) 15:00, 19 May 2023 (UTC) - Retarget to Yud, do not mention at Eliezer Yudkowsky. "The Yud" seems to me to be mostly derisive, though not as clearly as Big Yud. I would oppose mentioning it at Eliezer Yudkowsky because of that and the lack of notability. Note that both of these nicknames were added to Yud (disambiguation) during this discussion, while not specifying that they refer to Eliezer Yudkowsky. [EDIT: I have replaced those entries with Eliezer Yudkowsky.] Here is a Tweet from Yudkowsky, for what it's worth: I'm actually kind of honored that my public celebrity name seems to be "Yud". Three letters! One syllable! (25 April). [Edit: Here is another relevant Tweet of his: On the offchance you really wanted to know, basically nobody who knows me personally calls me yud. To friends I'm Eliezer. (28 September 2021).] SilverLocust (talk) 23:57, 19 May 2023 (UTC)

- Disambiguate to Kach (political party) and Religious Zionist Party - both equally valid targets. Iskandar323 (talk) 14:34, 19 May 2023 (UTC)
- Keep per BDD. Tag it as {{r from related topic}}; a redirect doesn't have to be a synonym to be relevant. Regarding Iskandar323's recommendation, disambiguation is for articles that do or could share the same title and those two parties are examples, not topics that share the same title; disambiguation would not be appropriate. – Scyrme (talk) 14:48, 19 May 2023 (UTC)
- Keep the article describes a broad phenomenon which encompasses the individual parties proposed as alternate targets. If we had Far right politics in Israel that could potentially be a better, even broader target that more closely matches the search term, but we don't. signed, Rosguill talk 05:54, 1 June 2023 (UTC)

Extremely obscure character, unlikely redirect. The only Clayton Forrester I know is the one from Mystery Science Theater who shot Mike and Joel into space. Dronebogus (talk) 13:14, 19 May 2023 (UTC)
- Keep Probably wasn't notable as an article, but as a navigational redirect it's harmless - it was mentioned in the target as a major character, which goes against your notion of it being "extremely obscure". There is no obvious reason it should be deleted outright, and an AfD of the original article there likely would have resulted in "redirect".

Early 2023 execution of a Ukrainian prisoner of war

- The result of the discussion was keep. There was agreement that the title is factually incorrect for the target, but was seen as a redirect from a page move, still getting views. Jay 💬 09:51, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
- Early 2023 execution of a Ukrainian prisoner of war → Execution of Oleksandr Matsievskyi (talk · links · history · stats) [ Closure: keep/retarget/delete ]
In March 2023, a video of a Ukrainian soldier being executed by Russian forces appeared. He was first identified as someone else before being recognized as Oleksandr Matsievskyi. During that period of uncertainty, this title was chosen. Further, as information appeared, it turned out Matsievskyi was killed in December 2022. And also, arguably in "early 2023" as well (March), another Ukrainian captured soldier was killed, see Beheading of Szerhij Pataki. So this redirect is problematic.
Some users may believe that Matsievskyi being killed in 2022 means this redirect would be valid for Pataki. Technically yes, but I don't expect readers to know so many details of these brutal executions, with so much conflicting info having appeared. Most readers would identify these murders with the date of the release of their videos (March 2023 and April 2023). A reader might not know what to expect when taken to "Early 2023 execution of a Ukrainian prisoner of war". Super Ψ Dro 07:45, 22 April 2023 (UTC)
- Perhaps retarget to Treatment of prisoners of war in the Russian invasion of Ukraine#Execution of surrendering and captured Ukrainian soldiers? Has subsections for both the executions of Szerhij Pataki and of Oleksandr Matsievskyi; mentions the dates these videos emerged; and links to our articles on both executions. AddWittyNameHere 16:47, 24 April 2023 (UTC)
- That would be just for the sake of keeping the redirect and not because it is useful or anything. I seriously doubt that a reader will decide to start their search looking for any of the two cases with the words "early 2023 execution". Such logic would then beg the question "so why was it chosen as an article title?" and I would argue that while it was still hard to search, it was the best option back then as the article already existed but the victim's identity was disputed. Also the fact that a Wikipedia article is titled a certain way will make a certain sequence of words more commonly looked up in the Internet, but that's not the case anymore. Super Ψ Dro 20:59, 24 April 2023 (UTC)
- It still gets 27 pageviews per day. Compared to the on average ~570 page views a day the actual article gets, that means about 1 in 21 readers of the article actually gets there through this specific redirect, which is a substantial enough portion that I'd say clearly it's useful to some people. (It's also more than the page views of all other redirects to the same page combined) AddWittyNameHere 21:16, 24 April 2023 (UTC)
- The redirect is factually wrong though as Matsievskyi died in December 2022. Super Ψ Dro 13:45, 25 April 2023 (UTC)

- Bungee bus → Articulated bus (talk · links · history · stats) [ Closure: keep/retarget/delete ]
Needs discussion whether this term is used. Have not seen any of this on searches / news articles. AngusW🐶🐶F (bark • sniff) 17:01, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
- Delete. I find nothing, and I mean absolutely not a single use of "bungee" or "bungy" to refer to an articulated vehicle. Rather, it is used by at least two companies in South Africa (e.g. ZA1 ZA2) and one in New Zealand (NZ1) which provide transport to bungee-jumping sites by bus. There's also a passing mention of a similar set-up in Rishikesh, India (IN1). But the redirect to Articulated bus is incorrect, AFAICT, and it seems an unlikely search term to be redirecting to Bungee jumping (although that's the best option if we retarget, my second choice), as entering "bungee" in the search box already has "Bungee jumping" as the first suggestion. — JohnFromPinckney (talk / edits) 13:56, 16 May 2023 (UTC)

- Delete while it certainly sounds like something someone in, I dunno, New Zealand would say, if it’s not a real term it obviously should be deleted Dronebogus (talk) 13:17, 19 May 2023 (UTC)

- Oh my god I can't believe it → Oh My God (Adele song) (talk · links · history · stats) [ Closure: keep/retarget/delete ]
Can't see how anyone looking for this song would type what I expect is the first line - the main page is really rather obvious, no? Even so, I can't actually vouch on wiki that this redirect is the first line...! Mattdaviesfsic (talk) 06:15, 19 May 2023 (UTC)

- Retarget to Oh My God (Kaiser Chiefs song) as recurring lyric in the chorus and mentioned. Add hatnote to Adele's song. AngusW🐶🐶F (bark • sniff) 14:50, 21 May 2023 (UTC)
- Delete: I don't think a lyric warrants a disambiguating hatnote, especially when it's primarily a basic English idiom. Neither song has a unique claim to a common idiom. The ambiguity is better resolved by not having the redirect; both these songs are listed in the first page of search results anyway. If it were the title, then I could see a case for it. – Scyrme (talk) 17:44, 21 May 2023 (UTC)
- Delete as ambiguous. I agree with Scyrme that this isn't worth disambiguating in the articles. The search engine is able to find both articles on the songs as the top two results, if someone does search for this. 192.76.8.86 (talk) 22:35, 23 May 2023 (UTC)

- Hell legion → José Tomás Boves (talk · links · history · stats) [ Closure: keep/retarget/delete ]
I think I know why this title redirects to Boves (I think it was the name of his brutal Royalist military force that opposed Bolívar in the Venezuelan War of Independence), but it isn't referred to by name in the article, and plus the title could refer to many other potential subjects that are unrelated to Boves in addition to the one meaning that is connected to him. IDK what should be done, but the status quo can't stand. — Mr. Guye (talk) (contribs) 22:38, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
- Delete. There's no mention of this term anywhere on Wikipedia and the connection is not immediately obvious. Unless someone volunteers to add a referenced mention somewhere, it's best to delete to allow uninhibited searching. – Scyrme (talk) 15:07, 18 May 2023 (UTC)
- There's mention of it in Simón Bolívar's article referring to Boves. AngusW🐶🐶F (bark • sniff) 15:16, 21 May 2023 (UTC)

- Delete but consider creating Legion of Hell or Hell's Legion disambiguation for potential names of groups. AngusW🐶🐶F (bark • sniff) 15:18, 21 May 2023 (UTC)
- Disambiguation requires multiple targets that already exist.
- You're right that there's a mention at Simón Bolívar; I didn't find it because it uses a different translation, namely Legion of Hell. Looking for variations on the phrase, I got nothing else for Hell legion, Hell's legion, and Legion of Hell, however, the plurals Hell's legions and Legions of Hell do bring up a number of search results. A disambiguation page may be viable there, since not all the results appear to be related to the book, Heroes in Hell, which is the target of Legions of Hell, and they don't appear to all be covered by the hatnotes at the current target. – Scyrme (talk) 18:01, 21 May 2023 (UTC)
