[edit]

{{resolved}} If anyone has access to Taylor&Francis (who are well known to suck wad over even institutional access), this this issue from 1981 has two things I'm after- Bolton's and Prescott's pieces. Tbf, Bolton's is only one page long :) This is to improve Nicholas Exton further, following on from a suggestion a peer reviewer gave it. Thank you, as usual, in advance. You're linking to the wrong London Journal. If you're anywhere near London, the easiest thing to do is rather than piss about online, nip in to either Guildhall Library or the LMA (40 Northampton Road, EC1), both of which have every conceivable document neatly archived and open to the public. While you're there, pop up the road to one of the three City public libraries (Shoe Lane, Artisan Street or Barbican) and get yourself a CoL library card—because the Corporation has considerably more clout with reluctant publishers than does your typical local authority, it gives you absolutely shedloads of usually-paywalled material. ‑ Iridescent 17:15, 15 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

San Francisco Examiner

For GA (in Russian wiki. I can translate it in English as well) about Ah Toy I need to check the source "San Francisco Examiner, January 23, 1881, pg. 1". @Алый Король and BU Rob13: If that doesn't work, Artrieve will retrieve articles from the Library of Congress and elsewhere, for a fee. (See also my discussion about it with another editor here: [1].) In fact, it would probably be useful to add it to the official "where to find stuff" list for RX. For what it's worth, I also put in an ILL request for this a few days ago. I'm not hugely optimistic however, as the status just changed to "Awaiting Unfilled Processing" (i.e., first attempt failed and now assessing options alternatives). The Daily Mail archive from 1909

[edit]

Does anyone have access to the full archives of the Daily Mail, including copies from 1909? I think this may be available through some Gage subscriptions. I am interested in obtaining information about the Tottenham outrage, which took place on 23 January 1909, so would appear in copies from 25th. If it's possible to get copies of the actual pages, including images, rather than just the text, that would be great. Thanks very much! - SchroCat (talk) 23:32, 11 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Two ice drilling requests

[edit]
  • Talalay et al (2015) "Ice core drilling problems and solutions". Cold Regions Science and Technology. 120:1-20
  • Bar-Cohen & Zacny. Drilling in Extreme Environments (2009). Chapter 4, "Ice Drilling". The chapter is quite long, but I don't need all of it -- skip sections 4.1 and 4.2 except 4.2.3; that should reduce it from 88 pages to about 50. If that's still too much, I can live without sections 4.5, 4.6 and 4.7.

Both are for ice drilling. Thanks -- Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 17:40, 18 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

1986 People article for F. Murray Abraham

[edit]

{{resolved}}

  • Stark, John (6 October 1986). "AN EVIL F. MURRAY ABRAHAM FIGHTS FRIAR SEAN CONNERY IN THE NAME OF THE ROSE". People. 26 (14): 112.

I'd like to double check if this article supports a statement in F. Murray Abraham to resolve a missing volume & issue tag. The statement I'm looking to confirm is: "Abraham had tired of appearing as heavies and wanted to return to his background in comedy." A scanning of the article isn't required, and instead just a confirmation before I add the reference. Thanks --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 17:36, 24 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I can get access to this book in a little over a week. But the library's terms of use don't allow me to scan more than a single chapter (the index doesn't count). Vikas, which chapter do you need, or would you rather first see the index so that you can decide? – Uanfala 22:12, 18 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Ohk. Uanfala. Send me the first chapter from it. Thank you very much. વિકાસ કૈલા (talk) 06:02, 19 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
વિકાસ કૈલા, the first chapter, called Vr̥tti, takes up about 150 pages, which is more than half of the book. My library's terms of use don't allow me to photocopy more than 10% of a given book. Is this really the chapter that you needed? It has 8 numbered sections, so if you're interested in one of them I can scan them. Or if you'd rather have one of the following chapters, they're much shorter? I can send you the table of contents, if that will help, but there's no index. – Uanfala 21:42, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Korean language research assistance

[edit]

2014 National Security Agency illegal seizure I'm trying to improve this article. Almost all sources currently are Liberian but the a group of South Koreans are key to the event. Can anyone Google in Korean to see if there are any Korean sources of information?

Also would anyone support creating an entirely new help desk just for language assistance? To illustrate how this is helpful: In this instance if there was a list of participants and a few listed Korean ability, I could just directly ask Korean capable volunteers to help with this task.

--Muzzleflash (talk) 17:17, 24 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Usernameunique Thanks for the offer to help. I went to the Korean Wikipedia where there is an embassy page and posted my request. An editor there helped. ODNB article on John Groser

[edit]

{{resolved}} Hello. A IP user left a request on my talk page for the ODNB article for John Groser located at (doi:10.1093/ref:odnb/66048). Unfortunately I do not have access because my Oxford subscription only covers Oxford Academic. If anyone could help out @142.160.131.202: with this request, that'd be great. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 04:30, 4 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

MrLinkinPark333, I have the article but no way (that I can think of) of sending it to an IP user. Ideas, anyone? Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 11:08, 4 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Upload to Dropbox or something similar, maybe? Although I can't actually remember how that works. SerialNumber54129 11:13, 4 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Nope, Dropbox requests access to your contacts, and it isn't getting that from me. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 11:35, 4 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
On that, Justlettersandnumbers, see here, although I agree that the principal isn't worth allowing. In any case, the sad but harsh reality is that if an IP wants to do more than tweak an article (as opposed to "work on it" as they said to MrLinkinPark333), they better register first. If I want to work on an article, I stick an "in use" template at the top and, hey presto, there's a GA; whereas the IP gets reverted within ten minutes. Shame, but- SerialNumber54129 12:06, 4 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for posting this thread, MrLinkinPark333! I just happened to stumble upon it. Justlettersandnumbers, might you be able to e-mail it? My e-mail address is the letters IP followed by my IP address @gmail.com. 142.160.131.202 (talk) 22:34, 4 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The Book of Kells

[edit]

Henry, Françoise (1974). The Book of Kells: Reproductions from the Manuscript in Trinity College, Dublin. New York: Alfred A Knopf. ISBN 0-394-49475-X, page 150.

Book of Kells cites this for stating that the book was probably written at Iona and the illustrations added in Ireland. I would like to copy this information to Kingdom of Northumbria. (This has been done by an IP at [4] but badly worded.) I do not have access to the source, and I am reluctant to copy the ref without confirming that it supports the statement. Can anyone help? Thanks. Dudley Miles (talk) 17:09, 3 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Cadence Magazine article

[edit]

I'm looking for pages 73–74 from this book to expand Live in Prague and Washington:

  • Rusch, Bob, ed. (1991). Cadence, Volume 17, Issues 7–12. B. Rusch. pp. 73–74.

Here is a Google Book snippet of the pages I need. The article was originally published in Cadence Magazine, but I can't tell from the snippet which issue these pages come from. If anyone has access to the magazine, volume 17, Issues 7–12, that would also help. Thanks. —Bruce1eetalk 17:23, 17 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I will be able to get hold of a copy in a few days, and I'll take photos of the two pages, if that is alright? I'm too stingy to use that library's scanning service. – Uanfala 11:13, 26 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Usernameunique! The April 3 article isn't the one I had in mind, but I may be able to make use of it. Squinting at the thumbnails, I think what I was expecting is on May 5, 1958 in the upper left corner of page 1. There seems to be a photo of the band members holding up their record, with a couple paragraphs below. Don't know if there's more information below the fold or inside. --Worldbruce (talk) 02:33, 11 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You're completely right Worldbruce, here it is. Should have looked more closely the first time around but just relied on the text search. It doesn't mention "Long Legged Linda," but it does mention "I'm So Lonely" (as per here). --Usernameunique (talk) 02:37, 11 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Clarification of disputed claim at Byford Dolphin

Needed to settle disputed claim in Byford Dolphin. Clarification needed of the time taken for gas outflow and pressure drop for the explosive decompression, and if available the order of transfer of personnel through trunking and storage of wet gear in trunking before the blowout. Wolfdog, doesn't look like it's been published. "Selected papers" from the conference are regularly published in University of Pennsylvania Working Papers in Linguistics (open access), but the relevant volume - https://repository.upenn.edu/pwpl/vol19/iss2/ - doesn't contain the requested contribution. In a recent paper, Professor Bowie himself refers to it as a "Poster presented at New Ways of Analyzing Variation 41 (NWAV 41), Bloomington, Ind., Oct. 25–28" (doi:10.1215/00031283-4295211); other citations of the work similarly don't cite it as a published source: "Paper presented at NWAV 41", "Poster present at NWAV 41". An abstract introducing the poster can be found on the conference website (via archive.org). I suggest you email one of the authors if you're interested in a copy. — Pajz (talk) 05:07, 10 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
