  • Comment: I have no idea what a submarine ace actually means. There is no article on it currently and so there is no criteria with which to define this category. An ace is a playing card and I cannot see any link there! If this is a notable term, I suggest starting the article first. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 16:34, 21 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
NoteI'm going to assuem it's the naval equivalent of a flying ace Cheers. I'mperator 23:35, 21 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds like a good guess. But I'd still be uncomfortable in creating a category regarding a concept which we didn't have an article about. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 23:37, 21 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
A submarine ace has sunk 100,000 tons or more. 76.66.196.218 (talk) 03:53, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Would you care to create a stub at User:MSGJ/Submarine ace with a few reliable sources? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 05:05, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The Washinton Post article is available online, you just need to pay for it. 76.66.196.218 (talk) 09:23, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have moved your article to Submarine ace. However I have a couple of concerns:

  1. The only use of the word, as far as I can see, is related to U-boat commanders and not submarines in general. We already have List of U-boat aces and Category:Aces of the Deep.
  2. I cannot find a reliable source to verify the number 100,000 that you quote. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 10:22, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The german book has that (the 100,000 GRT), as does the one written by Langenberg, the USN Rear Admiral. Actually, so does the Washington Post article. As the Post article predates the widespread use of Wikipedia, it won't be tainted by reporters using WP as a source. 76.66.196.218 (talk) 13:59, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The article Aces of the Deep was renamed List of U-boat aces for unfathomable reasons, since it specifically restricts it to ten commanders for "Aces of the Deep", all of which were WWII commanders. The List of successful U-boat commanders contains commanders with less than 100000BRT sunk. List of U-boat aces should probably be renamed back to its previous name or as List of Aces of the Deep, since it doesn't cover U-boat aces, only the 10 aces selected for it's topic matter. It's missing Lothar von Arnauld de la Perière, whom is cited in various locations as a U-boat ace, and who has more tonnage than the ones in the article, but was a WWI ace, and thus not covered in the restricted list that only covers WWII.
You can also check (in German) "Die deutschen Uboote 1906 bis 1945" by Bodo Herzog (pub 1954), which also lists the 100,000 GRT line

76.66.196.218 (talk) 14:04, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Check out the book "We captured a U-boat" by Rear Admiral Daniel V. Gallery, which also lists the 100,000 ton line to become an ace. 76.66.196.218 (talk) 14:37, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Up until January of last year, the "list of U-boat aces" was called "Aces of the Deep", until it was moved, and the term "U-boat aces" was added to "Aces of the Deep", so the list does not accurately reflect anything, since the lede was updated without actually updating the lede to make sense. It just added the new article name on top of a description for the old article name. It's not a list of U-boat aces, it's only a list of "Aces of the Deep". [1] - old version . diff: [2]. The article started as an "Aces of the Deep" article [3]. 76.66.196.218 (talk) 14:50, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The "See also" section on list of successful U-boat commanders even says that Aces of the Deep article only applies to the 10 most successful WWII commanders, which shows even more that the rename in Jan 2008 just further messed up the article. 76.66.196.218 (talk) 15:04, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect request: floating-point register file[edit]

Two:

Target of redirect: Register file

Reason: Used both capitalized and uncapitalized. One type among many of register files.

Source (if applicable):

62.147.36.43 (talk) 16:09, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment: The term "floating-point register file" seems to refer to multiple articles/entities. (See here). A new article would perhaps be a better alternative. Any other thoughts? -FASTILY (TALK) 00:06, 7 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: If not a new page, then at least a disambiguation page. Cheers. I'mperator 13:16, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect request: byronfgarcia & Byron F Garcia & Byron F. Garcia[edit]

Target of redirect: Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center

Reason: the signature used in the viral videos is "byronfgarcia" ; the prison involved in the viral videos is this one, so it is a reasonable search term for someone looking for the prison involved in all the dancing on youtube

Source (if applicable): the viral videos on youtube, listed in the prison article

76.66.203.200 (talk) 11:53, 26 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Byron Garcia already redirects there. 76.66.203.200 (talk) 11:57, 28 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

76.66.203.200 (talk) 12:20, 28 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: But Byron Garcia is already prominently mentioned in the article, so I don't see a need for a separate section, since he is a key administrator for the prison, and widely quoted to be an official at the dancing inmate Philippine prison, so it's a valid search term, and qualifies as such under WP:REDIRECT 76.66.193.20 (talk) 04:12, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect request: DigiCipher I & Digicipher 1 & Digicipher I[edit]

Target of redirect: DigiCipher 2

Reason: The DCII article is where DigiCipher redirects to, and mentions the first iteration. The preexisting redirect DigiCipher 1 also redirects there.

Source (if applicable): the article

76.66.193.20 (talk) 04:15, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment: There is very little mention of "Digicipher 1" in the article, DigiCipher 2. The only mention of "Digicipher 1" is how it is the predecessor to "Digicipher II". Perhaps a new article on "Digicipher 1" would be more appropriate. Any other thoughts? -FASTILY (TALK) 06:16, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: My course of action, based on other tech-y thing articles, would be to make the article for all "DigiCipher" content, and then describe one and two. I could be wrong, not understanding the content of the article (and not reading it that much), but do multiple versions or releases of things deserve new articles? Redirect request: go! flight 1002 & YV 1002 & ASH 1002 & AIR SHUTTLE 1002 & N651BR[edit]

Target of redirect: go! (airline)#FAA investigation

Reason:

  1. airline name + flight number
  2. IATA airline code + flight number
  3. ICAO airline code + flight number
  4. callsign + flight number
  5. plane tailnumber

Source (if applicable): the article, section "FAA investigation" and "Accidents and incidents" ; the FAA investigation section solely deals with the fallout from the incident on this particular flight

  • Comment: There appear to be several other pages besides from Les Fusiliers Mont-Royal which share the title "Carabiniers Mont-Royal", "Les Carabiniers Mont-Royal", ect. Perhaps a Disambig page would be a better option. -FASTILY (TALK) 05:58, 8 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect request: Les Carabiniers Mont-Royal & The Mount Royal Carabiniers & Mount Royal Carabiniers[edit]
