Potential relationship to LTA:Acklbonboncat[edit]

Hi H78c67c, I took a look at this tonight. I am not really sure one way or another. Some observations:
  • There isn't significant overlap in the place names that Acklbonboncat and HKGW are promoting. Although they have both edited regarding "No. 12 Hill" in Kowloon.
  • Aside from geographic place names, HKGW also has a characteristic interest in sovereignty issues (i.e. how Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macau are or are not presented alongside countries in, for example, lists and categories). They often discuss this issue at Talk:Country, articles about typhoons, lists and category-related discussions, etc. However, Acklbonboncat seems to have a more narrow focus on place names.
  • It seems that Acklbonboncat also edited English Wikipedia in 2013 (see contributions here). HKGW was also editing English Wikipedia in this time frame (IP 1, IP 2). Looking at HKGW's 2012/13 edits, I can immediately see they are editing on the same kinds of themes and articles as in 2021/22. But Acklbonboncat's 2013 edits are merely pushing the same set of place names as on Chinese Wikipedia (e.g. Lo Lung Hang). HKGW in 2012/13 was not pushing those place names.
By the way, I am actually 95 per cent sure that HKGW is Instantnood, a blocked user who has been creating sockpuppets on English Wikipedia for around 15 years. Citobun (talk) 14:20, 21 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Citobun - Thanks for creating this LTA page a while back. On the balance of probabilities, I think it's more likely than not that HKGW is Instantnood, although that implies someone spent 17 committed years as a banned troll which is a rather wacky argument to make. Unfortunately, back in 2011-14 many Chinese nationalist editors abused the Instantnood SPI case to bully any editor with a Hong Kong nationalist editorial perspective, so I pushed strongly for the SPI to be shut down. I'm glad you started this LTA page so we have a fresh start in dealing with the behavioural LTA issues, without the associated SPI-ban powers that were abused to ban an editorial POV. May 2022 question[edit]

@Citobun: Sorry to bother you. I am an HKer living in the UK (not this guy), and have stumbled across this entry while reading random backend pages. I am interested in knowing what edits HKGW has made (aside from the stuff in the countries page etc) that are actually factually incorrect/non-encyclopedic. As far as I can see from a cursory glance at the various AN/I and talk pages, the statements he makes do appear to be mostly factually accurate (land lot numbers are often used in addresses to businesses, and To Kwa Wan is... definitely not an archaic name?) In addition, as an HKer I do feel that the names he lists are actually closer to what is used on the ground and hence presumably more useful for understanding articles. Hi 192.76.8.71 (talk · contribs · WHOIS). This user has been blocked multiple times, which is the reason why their contributions are being reverted. Putting that aside, a lot of their contributions are not really correct and they refuse to add suitable citations, for instance when they push pet place names that nobody uses such as "Butterfly Beach", "Kei Tau Kok", "Harbour Crossing Tunnel", and so on.
